“Robots” An amazing exhibition that explored the 500-year story of humanoid robots and the artistic and scientific quest to understand what it means to be human. Robots took me on an incredible journey spanning five centuries, illustrated with robotic artefacts from around the globe. I watched 16 mechanical forms spring to life and even interacted with some of the robots on display. Set in five different periods and places, the exhibition uncovered how robots and society have been shaped by religious belief, the Industrial Revolution, 20th century popular culture and our dreams of the future. The gallery featured a unique collection of over 100 robots, from a 16th-century mechanical monk to robots from science fiction and modern-day research labs. “Harlech Castle” UNESCO considers Harlech to be one of "the finest examples of late 13th century and early 14th century military architecture in Europe", and it is classed as a World Heritage site. The fortification is built of local stone and concentric in design, featuring a massive gatehouse that probably once provided high-status accommodation for the castle constable and visiting dignitaries. The sea originally came much closer to Harlech than in modern times, and a water-gate and a long flight of steps leads down from the castle to the former shore, which allowed the castle to be resupplied by sea during sieges. In keeping with Edward's other castles in North Wales, the architecture of Harlech has close to links to that found in the County of Savoy during the same period, an influence probably derived from the Savoy origins of the main architect, James of Saint George. Harlech Castle (Welsh: Castell Harlech), located in Harlech, Gwynedd, Wales, is a medieval fortification, constructed atop a spur of rock close to the Irish Sea. It was built by Edward I during his invasion of Wales between 1282 and 1289 at the relatively modest cost of £8,190. Tiger portrait: meet ‘Jae Jae’. Find out all about the eldest male resident of ZSL London Zoo's Sumatran tiger exhibit Tiger Territory. Jae Jae is a handsome male Sumatran tiger with a unique and eye-catching ruff of fur. Born in San Francisco Zoo, Jae Jae moved to Akron Zoo, Ohio with his brothers Kami Sambol, and Burung when they were all a year old. In autumn 2012, Jae Jae went the distance for love, travelling to his new home in ZSL London Zoo to meet female tiger Melati as part of the global breeding programme for this critically endangered species. After successful introductions by zookeepers it was clear Jae Jae and feisty Australian Melati were a good match and the relaxed Romeo is quite smitten with the lady in his life.
