All About The Melody
There aren't many written records of the Melody. It is seen as inherent to the land of Wilkosławia and the wider world. The people regard it as nature's symphony-- a way for the land to interact with it's people. Every living thing has a Melody, a song of the soul.
Musicians of all kinds can use sound to use the Melody. They can influence emotions, help the land grow and reform, heal flesh and bone, and even induce madness and speed up the decay process. It takes years, even decades, to master its usage, and most of the training is through trial and error.
Normally, the people cannot hear the Melody, but there are certain people who are known to be able to. One such person is known as Wilkosławia's Nightingale, a native of the land who has a special connection to the Melody and nature itself. In Wilkosławia, this person is regarded as one of the land's children and is celebrated at the Festival of Moonlit Night, or nights of the full moon--a night where the wolves howl the loudest.

Interview with a Character: Miłosz Słowik
notes found from a tome labelled "Before the Calling"
(place: town square. interviewer and interviewee have agreed to meet to conduct the interview)
Name: Miłosz Słowik
Age: 20
Height: 5'4'' (162.6 cm)
Sex & Gender: Male & Masculine
Pronouns: He/Him
Sexuality: Gay
Birthday: March 21st
What do you look like?: Miłosz is pale with curly blond hair and amber eyes. Townspeople say he has always been a thin young man despite the amount of food he can put down.
Who are you?: I'm Wilkosławia's Nightingale and Witold Zawisza's boyfriend. Proud and peaceful son of Bogumił the Loyal and Ewa Słowik.
What are you like?: I've always been quiet and listening to everything. My connection to the Melody has me keyed in on others emotions all the time. My friends say I'm cautious and anxious a lot of the time, but I can quickly find solace in the still and joyous moments.
What are some things you like?: Witold, and nature. I love to play music, especially on my hurdy-gurdy that my mother gave me. I can often be found humming a made-up tune while admiring the views around the town outskirts.
What are your dislikes?: (interviewee seems to have mumbled something that could not be made out) ... Józef Moroz. The man hates me even though he's my godfather. And sweets, especially miodownik. It's too sticky.
What do you want in life?: I want to live a long life with Witold and my friends, Magdalena and Damian. Is that so hard to get?
What is your relationship with Viktor Krukasz?: (interviewee goes quiet for a moment) I'm sorry, I think that's enough questions.
(interviewee has asked to end the interview. this request has been approved.)

I'm here to clear up some confusion about YA books. When some people hear that label, they think "meant for children." Why is it, then, that some books classified as YA have tons of explicit content that doesn't seem "appropriate"? There are actually complex and messy industry reasons behind this, mainly to do with female, qu33r, and POC authors getting pushed into the category and then pigeonholed there. (Also, totally not a coincidence that such authors get funneled toward a lower-paying category.)
I go over the main 3 reasons in this video, but basically, everyone's lives would be better if a clear distinction existed between Teen Lit and New Adult Lit, but this did not work out and forced the YA category to house more than it's nominally supposed to. Pearl-clutching at individual authors (or worse, calling for book bans "in the name of the children") is not the way to resolve this. The industry itself needs to commit to recognizing the necessity of New Adult, or it'll always be forced to room with YA and scandalize people.
#felt this was very very important to have others know#not a ya writer myself#but since it's most likely that i too will be pushed into this ya category even tho i'm a new adult and adult writer#please check this out#i deal with very sensitive topics in my writing and i don't want people going willy-nilly “ban this ban this!” just bc i write those things#and publishers put me in the ya section#ok now i'm frustrated#be aware people#spread this where you can

Get to know the world of Little Bird, Little Bird
Hello tumblr! Do you like dedicated gay lovers? Do you like obsessive, irredeemable villains? What about medieval worlds? Or lands that sing? You do? Great! I have something for you!
This is my current wip novel Little Bird, Little Bird. It is a dark fantasy novel with elements of romance and psychological horror.
It takes place in the medieval-esque country of Wilkosławia, a land that is as alive as her people. The essence of life known as the Melody weaves everything together in a symphony that only Wilkosławia's Nightingale can hear.
In Wilkosławia, the community dominates. "Live and let live" is the people's motto. As long as you help out, no harm done, right?
Well, evil people still exist.
Join Witold Zawisza and Miłosz Słowik's journey to reuniting and recovery as they fight the forces that seek to snuff them and their love out in Little Bird, Little Bird.
(stay tuned for more lore and story updates!)

heeelllloo tumblr. first post here, and a nice intro to me:
I'm Nicholas, or Niko if you prefer. I go by he/they, and I'm a fantasy writer/aspiring author. this blog is for getting my stuff out there and enjoyed by others.
currently working on a dark fantasy novel which you'll hear more about later. What I focus on in most of my works are relationships of love (of all kinds), psychological traumas, and queerness of all shapes and sizes. I also tend to approach taboo topics in media with great interest and incorporate them in my works. To me, no topic should be taboo and here's why: it helps to talk about those things. It widens our worlds and helps us grow. Of course this comes with the caveat that we take things seriously and respectfully, which is a goal that I have when I bring up a taboo topic in my works. I expect the same respect and seriousness from my audience. Be Responsible.
That said, what do i like?
I'm a huge fan of The Witcher series right now. I dabble in some anime and manga (Dungeon Meshi, Golden Kamuy, Blue Period, Spy x Family, and BNHA to name a few). I enjoy works by Neil Gaiman and Alice Oseman (The Ocean at the End of the Lane and the Heartstopper series being ones of my favorites respectively). Some of my favorite musicians right now are Hozier, Rabbitology, MARETU, and Paris Paloma. Some games that I like are Pokemon, LoZ, Omori, Persona 5, the Etrian Odyssey series, Divinity Original Sin II, and Baldur's Gate 3.
Annnndd that's me! I hope you all enjoy my stuff and stay safe out there.
