THE EVOLUTION OF KID CUDI By Ayanda
Tumblr media
Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi has come a long way from his debut mixtape “A Kid Named Cudi”. Cudi has transcended the barriers of hip-hop and has managed to create his own unique blend of genres ranging from hip-hop to indie rock. Cudi started off with some stoner influenced hip-hop tracks on “A Kid Named Cudi”. Collabs on this album include King Chip and Wale (who features on almost all Cudi’s albums) and the best track in terms of lyrical content is definitely Man on The Moon. In a nutshell, it is a perfect representative of Cudi’s fan base (known as the Cudfam), his theme of the moon and space; as well as the topic of most of his music: being different (besides being a stoner).
Man on the Moon: The End of Day was probably his most successful album and presented Cudi’s greatest commercial hit: “Day ‘N’ Nite” featuring the Crookers. Who could forget “Make Her Say” featuring Kanye and Common? Common played  narrator on the album where Cudi got 2 Grammy nominations in 2010 for both tracks.  Cudi’s theme of the moon and space is continued in this album, lyrically and it is manifested in the album art.

“Man on The Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager” is arguably his best work in terms of lyrical content. Cudi reveals a darker side to himself, hinting at his experience with cocaine and how the deaths of his uncle and father affected him. Mary J Blige and Cee-Lo Green lending their soulful voices on this album, adding to the dark atmosphere. “Mr. Rager” wins first place for “best” and “most disturbing” track on this album. Mr. Rager being Cudi’s alter ego; the person he becomes when he is high on cocaine.  The theme of the moon and space is not as evident on this album as it was in MOTM1. This album is more of a space for Cudi to express his darker side.

Sometime later we got Indicud. Indicud is more indie rock than hip hop and sees him veering away from the Kanye influence as he had left GOOD Music prior to the album’s release. Cudi is more hands on, being the producer and writer of all the songs. King Chip makes his usual feature in “Just What I Am”, one of the best tracks although King Chip is more prominent on this track and actually steals the limelight from Cudi. Cudi spits a couple rhymes with Kendrick Lamar on “Solo Dolo Pt. 2”, more upbeat than the other tracks and quite refreshing as it sees Cudi being more aggressive than he usually is, in order to keep up with Kendrick’s fast and concise flow. “Immortal” and “King Wizard” lend more of an indie rock feel to the album and strangely, Cudi makes the genres seamless, the whole album flowing smoothly. None of the tracks sound out of place despite the difference in genre from hip-hop to indie rock – making Indicud more of an experience than an album.
Tumblr media
Then we get to “Satellite Flight” in 2014, defiantly one of the weirdest albums you will listen to. The space-age theme is back in full force with Cudi sampling Lunar Landing press conferences. With fully original production the album  literally sounds like his journey to the moon with a rock feel to it. This album sounds like space travel. It sounds like how landing on the moon would feel: unfamiliar, alien and not bound by gravity. It has no boundaries and is as if Cudi has created a totally new genre. It’s just pure Cudi. “Copernicus Landing” is void of rapping or singing – just sound. Very futuristic and in keeping with the Satellite Flight theme,  is a completely different sound form Indicud. It raises the question of what MOTM3 will sound like. “Balmain Jeans” is Sex, love and out of this world orgasms. Doesn’t get more far out than that.
Although Kid Cudi isn’t as big or popular as other rappers, he has a strong, loyal and almost cult-like fan base of lonely stoner kids. He’s become successful without having to become commercial, which is quite a feat nowadays.

This, Paha Sapa thinks, is what Death feels like when it crawls in through a mans mouth and eyes and nostrils to steal his spirit. But instead of Paha Sapa's spirit being dragged out, this stranger's spirit is being forced in. Death acts here more as a terrible intruder than a thief.

If time is relative to perception... do you think the afterlife is really just our last moment of life as we perceive it, or something completely outside of this dimension?
Firstly, you're comparing apples and oranges here. Time and the afterlife are two different concepts. Not to mention that the afterlife, if anything, would be timeless. It is also something we cannot hope to perceive. That's why I think time and perception have nothing to do with the afterlife, but if I had to choose an answer I'd say that it is something completely outside of this dimension.
PS - You're really random but thanx for the question :P
PPS - Why the anonymity though?

Every hour that passed added to her grief, because it bore her further away from the living man, and because it was a tiny foretaste of the eternity she would have to spend without him. Again and again she found herself forgetting, for the space of a heartbeat, that he was gone forever and that she could not turn to him for comfort.

#1 Things Father Taught Me
Take advice
There are times when we put ourselves through unnecessary hardships. This usually happens when you are warned about the outcome of a certain situation but make that bad decision anyway because "I will learn from my own mistakes." WRONG. Believe it or not: it is possible to learn from the mistakes of others. Don't be a fool. Listen to the advice people give you. They probably know what they're talking about.
