Day 22: When Inspiration Strikes

Today....well, today I did all of this. Here’s to my first professional design review tomorrow...higher quality pictures to come...and now it’s time for bed. Two more days of my internship, and then I get to dig back into my design nearly full-time. I can’t wait.

Day 21: It’s not just Illustrator

Had a really great talk today with a fellow designer about the origins of design, and about the fact that skill and understanding digital programs is really a minute part of it. It’s all about the ideas that you’re trying to convey, and the people you’re trying to convey them to. Here’s the beginning of something I’ve been trying to get into words/images for a while.

Day 18: Dream Big (Even if you’re a balloon animal)

Busy working on a lot of bigger design projects today, but managed to crank out this little doodle. I’m feeling a little discouraged today in terms of design, but I’m trying to look at my inexperience and weakness as areas of growth for the future. Gonna try to keep dreaming big and working hard.

Day 17: In Place of an Essay

I’m working on a little motion graphics piece as a creative way to document the things I did this summer. It was originally going to be a big infographic but I think adding motion to it will make it a lot more fun and interactive.

Day 16:  A Horse of a Different Color

So....I’m teaching myself After Effects! I’ve suddenly fallen in love with motion graphics and I can’t wait to start learning more about it. Here’s my first comp.

Day 15:  So I missed yesterday....

Today is a little homage to the wonderful gal I call my mom. I’ve been missing her these last few weeks but tomorrow she is coming to visit!!

Day 14: Sometime I Get Inspired At The Grocery Store...

I’ve always been a big fan of orchids, especially the way that they grow diagonally and look somewhat off-balance. They had the most beautiful orchids today at Trader Joe’s, and I think I might have to buy one next time I’m there!

Day 13: Icon-O-graphy

Working on some icons to accompany a live-action game I’m helping run for our school’s college orientation. Only happy with the hot dog at this point, but I spent a bunch of time messing around in After Effects, so I consider today a success anyhow.

Day 12: I Took This With A Potato

A crappy quality progress photo of what’s to come. Not the most progress I’ve ever made, but I’m finishing up my internship these next two weeks so my design time is limited. After that I’ll have all the time in the world! (At least for a week until school starts...)

Day 11:  Rose-colored Glass

Working on a redesign of the book cover for The Outcasts of 19 Schuyler Place, one of my favorite childhood books. I think this is gonna be cool, even though it’s taking forever.

Day 10: Wacom is Life

Finally whipped my old tablet out, and tried to illustrate something for the first time ever. Definitely a long road ahead of me, but I really enjoy just freehand illustration like this, makes me feel like I’m 8 years old again.

Day 9:  Do You Even Vinyl, Bruh?

Yesterday’s illustration turned into a wacky design prompt: to design a website for something that is inherently non-digital. (Maybe) more to come.

Day 8: GASP - ITS NOT COMPLETELY FLAT

Some beginning playing-around-with gradients and some other fun stuff. Pretty happy with how this is going, to be honest.

Day 7:  1 Week Down!

Today’s design is some more logo and iconography work continued from yesterday. The design on the right is far too complicated, but I think the icons may come into play with some of the other print materials that accompany it!

Day 6: Logo Lovin’

 Some early logo and print design work for a photo scavenger hunt event. Super fun to get the chance to collaborate with non-designer friends to make this stuff happen.

Day 5:  L Is For The Way...

Today’s update is a mini one, but I’m realizing that with my current busyness levels, I shouldn’t rush to “finish” something just to get it uploaded. Pretty pleased with how this is going, more to come soon!
