Normalize leaving unhinged comments on ao3 fics you like. I'm tired of being the only one brave enough to write "I am chewing on this fic" in the comment section. Be weird. Authors will love you for it

“They’re here!” Bursting into the tent, Dwalin declared. Heads whipped to the warrior, who was heaving great breaths, his shoulders moving with every great inhale that he took. “Who’s here?” Asked Ori. Then, it all clicked for Bombur. “The Stiffbeard and Blacklock kingdoms!” He cried out. Simultaneously, his gut dropped. The Company burst into chatter. Nori’s hand squeezed a bit tighter around his wrist. Bombur attempted to cease the nerves that simmered deep within him. Oh, Mahal.

“About Bifur…” he looked at him. “I never thanked you for being there for him.” The Hobbit appeared taken aback, even going as far as to stumble back. Eventually, he sniffed, his gaze softening in a way that was so reminiscent of moment before they had entered the mountain, when they made Heart Vows to each other. Bombur breathed, “thank you.” A small smile tugged at Bilbo’s lips one more time. “Always.” Within a few steps, he was far from Bombur’s reach. Then, while his back was still facing them, it was as if an invisible cloak was draped over him. And once again, he was gone.
brand new chapter, coming soon!

Heads naturally turned to them, some of the Company member’s eyes widening at seeing who Bifur came in with. Bofur, whose wood shavings littered the floor around him, but all in his hands was an undistinguished figure, frowned. Of course, his cousin was more than aware of the bitterness that Bifur held towards the Hobbit. “Bif?” The tone was wary. “What’s going on?” (The sun was rising into the sky. It was bright. The amalgamation, upon seeing it, wanted to hide away, because it had never seen daylight before. But at its side, the fire stayed, its flame persisting and reminded the creature that it had seen the light before. It was seen. And nothing changed, except the realization of its flaws.) Bifur took in a deep breath. Bilbo’s warmth grounded him; kept his foot glued to the ground, and his crutches to remain where they were at. He had been seen. And he was still okay. A tug was felt on his sleeve (Biffi’s chubby hand pulling on his arm, his cousins tugging on it to get his attention, Bilbo doing it to ground him). He swallowed. I have something need to say.

Hiiiii I missed your latest progress updates apparently 🥺 the whole time I was wondering where you'd gone :(
But, I wanted to ask a few questions about your awesome writing!!
I love WTHI (as yk) and not in the least because of the detail put into interpersonal relationships between the dwarves, their backstories, personalities, etc. Which of them was the hardest to flesh out?? Since there's so little in canon to go off of.
And, how do you stay motivated? It seems to me that you're some kind of really advanced android, writing as much as you are 😂 How d'you deal with writer's block, if you have it?
No pressure to answer this ask!! Thank you for everything 🫶
(Secret bonus question: what's your next milestone, and what are you going to bake for it?)
ahhh thank you! the most loveliest presence has graced my ask box! don’t worry, im still here, j got a lil busy 😉
the hardest dwarfs to flesh out out of thorin’s company would probably be dori, fili, balin, oin, and gloin. i wanted to make them complex and nuanced, without them being an extension of another character (like making dori’s sole role being ori and nori’s brother) or their only defining personality trait was their occcupation (like saying oin’s main personality trait was ‘healer’). for me, it was so easy to slip into those tendencies, so i used the love i held for each member of the company to try to do them justice.
but even with the difficulty, i still loved fleshing them out as there was so much creative freedom, and connected with the characters a little more
as for motivation, sweet asks and comments like this fuel my eagerness to complete WTHI! it makes me happy to know people actually enjoy my writing! and teehee, i promise im not an android! alongside the wonderful comments, i always like to use writing as a way to challenge myself and push my limits. i find great fun in giving myself tiny challenges, and rewarding myself for when i complete them!
and lastly, i do plan on baking something for when i finish the second half of WTHI!! perhaps a cake? idk, with how many words ive wrote, i might use chocolate chips or sprinkles to represent how many words!!
thank you again for ur wonderful ask! it really brightened my day and as said before, motivates me to continue writing. have a great day!!

The other Dwarf was shoved, his back connecting with the stone ground. There was another pause. The group’s attention was turned to whatever that it was that shoved their friend, stunned and looking around for whatever it was. Bombur, however, only felt horror. He couldn’t be here. He couldn’t. He was banished, and there was nothing his schooling taught him that ever told him the punishment for violating the banishment — From thin air, there appeared Bilbo. The scar running down his face screamed at him, especially with how pale his skin had gotten. But that was far from the cook’s first concern.
3000 words written today of ch 29 of WTHI! ik it has been a month without updates, but don't worry, the fic is still alive and well! hoping to finish writing ch 29, edit and post ch 28 next week!
have a wonderful day!

Smoke billowed from Bilbo’s pipe (he wondered where he got that too), entangling the fiery strands of his hair and muddling the details of his face. “But if you did, even after all that I have done, I’d tell you that I’m here.” He drew a drag from the pipe. “And I’d understand.” Just like how he was thrust back in time, he was thrust slightly forward, back to being on the boat to Erebor — where Bilbo spoke about the deaths of his Hearts and when Bifur listened, all that he ever heard was his own pain beneath someone else’s skin. Guilt nestled within him for remembering that. You would, wouldn’t you? Bilbo blew another smoke ring. “I think I would.” He sniffed. “But you said you didn’t mean it.”
i finally finished ch 28 of WTHI!! super duper excited to post it when the time comes :)

rahhh thank you for the tag!! this looks like sm fun!! and wonderfully (and coincidentally), i have five fics!
1. Hell
my thoughts: it was a fun fic to write! after watching squid game, i really wanted to write something to contribute to the fandom with something. i don’t think the sangwoo and gihun dynamic gets talked enough about, which is a damn shame bc i think the way they turned into childhood friends, to strangers, to enemies is so interesting! but all in all, again, it was fun to write!
my readers’ thoughts: its not as popular as my sherlock or hobbit fics, but i think people liked it! a lovely commenter under the name of Glowstar826 left this sweet comment that they thought the character study was fascinating! i think that comment motivated me to post more works on ao3.
2. he reeks of gifted kid burnout
my thoughts: i really needed to vent in a fic, and i didnt really see any discussion about the gifted kid burnout that sangwoo obviously been through. so, combined, it was really just a fic that i didnt intend for anyone to read.
my readers’ thoughts: this one got lot more kudos than my other squid game fic, and a lot more than i thought it would get. i got a sweet comment saying that the fic helped them connect even more with sangwoo, and gained a whole new appreciation for the character. which… really melted my heart 😭 i really wasnt expecting that
3. Walk Away
my thoughts: a plot bunny that has been in my head for the longest time. i found it in my google docs, unfinished, and i wanted to rewrite! in the fics where john takes the fall, he never assumed the role of moriarty as sherlock did, when i feel like he would have been the best person beside sherlock to take the fall for moriarty. it would have made sense, and i think thats was what made that specific plot bunny so compelling
my readers’ thoughts: they liked it! it was one of the fics that got a lot of kudos, and i got a comment that they were looking for fics for that specific prompt. so im glad i was able to fill that specific demand!
4. Where The Heart Is
my thoughts: literally my baby. its probably the longest and biggest fic that i have committed to, and after a year, i am only almost a 3/4 of the way done. i am so determined to finish it, and let it end on a wonderful end!!
my readers’ thoughts: this is my most popular fic! everyone in the comments are so amazing and awesome and actually, when people tell me that they cried i was like “… oops, i didnt think i could do that 😭” so thank yall for commenting! it really motivates me and warms my heart to think my writing could make everyone feel sm!
5. In the Same Breath
my thoughts: writing style wise, this is my favorite fic. it was so much fun to write, as i love writing pretty/purple prose. i discovered the draft a year after i wrote it unfinished, and so i decided to finish it!
my readers’ thoughts: pretty much the same as WTHI!
tagging: anyone who wants to join!
Five Fic Feedback!
Tagged by: No one! Seen this floating about a few fandoms, and decided to bring it over to bagginshield!
Rules: Pick five fics you've written, then tell us about how you feel about it vs how readers have received it!
1 - Bad Blood
My Thoughts: This one is way bigger than I meant it to be! It was going to be about 5k words and the only scene I had in my head was Bilbo biting the elven guard, haha! Readers: People really seem to love this one! I feel like feral Bilbo is always a crowd-pleaser, and this fic got much more attention than I ever expected it to! - 2 - Soldier My Thoughts: I'm really proud of this one. It was my first bagginshield fic, and it was after a loooong break from writing. Even though it's a bit weak in places, I have such a soft spot for it. Readers: I ended up re-posting this one after some harassment kicked my confidence down the toilet, but since then the reception has been very positive! - 3 - Poet My Thoughts: I'm sorry to say it, but this is probably my least favourite fic I've written. If it wasn't so popular I'd have removed it and altered the end of Soldier so it was just one fic! Readers: This fic seems to be very popular, and was the first time someone made art of my work - and more than once! I remember posting the first chapter and not expecting very much, only to come onto tumblr and see random posts where folks were super excited to see it was updating! It was such a lovely feeling! - 4 - My Ego Dies My Thoughts: I genuinely love this one, I think it's probably my personal favourite. I really enjoy playing about with the idea of "forgiveness" between Bilbo and Thorin, and this fic really scratched a particular itch for me! Readers: Probably my least popular fic - statistically, at least! I've found most folk weren't into it for one reason or another, but the people who love it, really, really love it! -
5 - Stealing Moments, Moments Away My Thoughts: I wish I'd taken more time with this one in some ways, but in others it really is the reshirement fic I wanted to tell. Again, I got to tinker with that "forgiveness" trope, and have a good look at what survival might realistically have meant for Thorin. Readers: This one is a quick read, and it's soft and fluffy, so I think readers enjoy it for that reason, though I believe some found it a bit boring. It was being updated almost daily, and the folks who were invested came back to comment and read practically every time I updated, which was just amazing to me! - 6 - Backs To The Wall (Sorry, I've written six, so I wanted to do all of them!) My Thoughts: I wrote this because it was something I wanted to read, and couldn't find. It's been amazingly fun, and I told myself when I started (knowing it was going to be fairly long - even if I didn't realise quite how long at the time, haha) that I wasn't going to take it too seriously, and I was really only writing this for myself, as the most self-indulgent kind of nonsense, ever! Readers: I can't begin to tell you how utterly blown away by the response to this I've been. Like?? It's just crazy to me how much folks are enjoying this, how excited and supportive everyone has been! I've been so grateful for everyone reading, and genuinely shocked down to my bones, haha! 💛 - No pressure tags for: @fantasyinallforms @lucigoo @lordoftherazzles @domesticgoddesswriter @thatfancygirlinwhite @lauramkaye @sass-y-squatch @mintedwitcher (and honestly anyone else who sees this and wants to do it, *waves a wand* you are Tagged!)

“What are you doing here?” Nori was the first to speak, glaring daggers right at the Hobbit. But Bilbo did not even appear affronted by the hostility, his eyes finding Balin. His face lit up, exclaiming, “You’re awake!” Before it morphed into a more alarmed expression. “I didn’t know what else to do.” Balin looked his figure up and down. There were certainly things about him that were not there since he last saw him. Notably, the scar that ran down his temple to cheek, bandaged together haphazardly. If Óin were to see it, he would have swooned over the crude bandaging. His skin, which was paler, was colored red, the fringe of his hair sticking to his forehead. His clothes were dirty and snow-caked, but then again, so was the Company, last time he saw them. He was smaller. Smaller than he’d ever seen him. It made him ponder if he was eating as of late, or where he was, since the Company couldn’t find him.

Entering the tent, Bilbo was not wrong when he said the meeting dissolved into chaos. In the meeting, the red-haired general of Mirkwood held a chest, which she kept ways above the reach of any in the Company. Bofur — who that Balin was surprised that he was still there — was being held back by Óin and Dwalin from launching himself at king Thranduil, who was watching the whole debacle with an unimpressed look.
King Bard himself was restrained by Queen Dikki’s arm, alongside Tharkûn’s staff. At the same time, Queen Dikki was calling her soldiers to lay down their arms as they were pointed at the rest of the remaining Company, Dain, and Yrain, who appeared just as confounded by the situation as he was. The small meal that Balin assumed Bombur prepared remained half-eaten, with the tension so thick in the air that not even a blade could cut through it.
It was only made worse when Bilbo stepped into the room. Everyone could detect his presence like Wargs could smell blood. Upon entering, one of the Stonefoots cried out, “There be the spy!” and some of their fellow associates turned to point their weapons at him. Upon having their heads turned to the commotion, the Company also caught sight of him. He could hear the aghast cries of “Balin!” Poke through the noise.
All of it proved to be too much for the advisor. He yelled, with as much force as he could, “What in Mahal’s name is going on here?”
teehee chapter 27 of WTHI is coming out tomorrow on a veeeerrry special day! can yall tell what it is??

life update + WTHI progress (mini vent below the cut!)
i am going to be so real rn, i honest to god meant to post this cute snapshot of my writing set-up with a teaser of WTHI ch 27. however, perhaps it was my hubris that thought that i could just merrily continue to write on my half a decade year old laptop without issues
idk when, idk how, but i got logged out of my word account and despite my best efforts, everything is gone. like, the file for WTHI just disappeared
thank GOD that chapter 27 was saved on word counter of all places. but everything else, including chapters i have already written, such as chapters 28, 39, and 40, they just evaporated. i just… it’s not even frustration i feel, just disappointment.
i mean, to be fair, microsoft word has always worked wonky for me, but i’ve always managed to power through it. but after this, i think it’s about time i start looking at other writing programs, but it sucks, because this is the second writing program i have to move away from since google has outrageously leaned towards ai.
do not get me wrong, this does not diminish the love i have for WTHI or writing in general. it just feels like a big slap in the face. moving forward, likely, i am going to edit ch 27 that was saved on word counter, post it, and try writing ch 28 again after i found different site. if yall have any other writing programs to recommend me, i’d like to hear them! ik i made an ancient post about other writing sites, so i’ll try them out!
have a wonderful day yall!

It was one of those instances that Bifur was reminded that Dwalin held a great deal of intelligence just like Master Balin, honed by the battles they both had seen.
(He had seen him. Had watched him curl his child to his chest and stare blankly into nowhere as the healers told him all that he brought to their tent was a corpse.
The blood was sticky on his hands. Dwalin’s remorseful gaze was like daggers digging into his back.
He had seen his world fall apart.)

writers and creatives in general, don’t forget to take your rest days or week. as someone who experienced burnout for MONTHS if you really want to make fast and consistent updates, you NEED to rest your mind and body. i pinkie swear, your mental health, creativity, and yourself will thank you later.
so go forth, my fellow writers. drink some water, play your favorite video game, re-watch the hobbit series for a 3875935th time, learn something new. you deserve it. you have the right to slow down every once in a while
#reblogging again bc this has never rung so true until now#sometimes we can lose sight of why we start art in the first place#and it takes a certain type of courage to tell yourself to stop yourself from running yourself into the ground and take care of yourself
