Thunderbolts, Thunderbugs!

(Thunderbolts as bugs time here we go)

So I took my best friends to see this movie. After making them cry a few times, my bug loving friend and I discussed what bug each Thunderbolt would be. So, here we go this is gonna be a long post. It’s me talking about bugs and over analyzing things

Yelena Belova - Paper Wasp

First one we decided on so let's talk about our queen Yelena first. Yelena is a wasp, for sure, and a lot of wasp species act generally the same so that doesn't matter a ton. However, paper wasps in particular are a lot nicer then other species. Unlike yellow jackets (hate those guys), paper wasps typically only attack if their homes are threatened. I think this shows Yelena's practical approach to violence, everything she does she does for a reason. Also, on a sadder note, female wasps are typically not the 'fighters' of their groups. They stay and take care of the brood. I think this could match the fact that Yelena was forced into a life that she wasn't 'made for' or at least a life she had no choice in. Beautiful, dangerous, and amazing team player; Yelena is a wasp.

Ava Starr - Ghost Mantis

Okay that one's pretty obvious on name alone but I have more reasons. One being the nature of mantises. Many mantis species move so quickly you can hardly see them, corrosponding with Ava's powers. Mantis are also deceptively strong bugs and the ghost mantis had this sort of weird beauty to it that I really enjoy and think matches Ava. Ghost mantis are also on the smallest side of the mantis family and females particularly will play dead as to help their camoflauge better hide them. I think this fits Ava's tendency to hide literaly and metaphorically.

John Walker - Ant-Mimicking Spider

Originally I said Walker was a fire ant. Incredibly strong, annoying and mean as hell, and a great team player. Then, my wonderful and intelligent friend brought up the ant-mimicking spider. Not only does this allow me to keep my ant reasonings, it also highlights another part of Walker's character. He adopts a persona that isn't his own, we see this majorly in TFATWS and it carries through into Thunderbolts*. Walker is trying to be something he isn't, at first Captain America and then he tries to project the image of a happy father to Yelena, Bob, and Ava in the Vault. Walker is a mimic of things prior and he struggles heavily trying to be someone he isnt, but by the end of the movie we see him become who he's supposed to be. That being, U.S Agent. Also, these spiders put up their front two legs when mimicking an ant and that could move into how Walker is the one to put his shield up and dive into action first.

Bob Reynolds - Miyama Stag Beetle

Or just a stag beetle if you dont wanna be too specific. Bob was second hardest and I went back and forth on this but I like a stag beetle for a few reasons. One, Miyama stags are one of the smaller stag beetle species. Not the smallest or the largest, but compared to those MASSIVE ones you can find they're littler. Still, these are crazy strong bugs and that corelates with Bob's weak looking appearence compared to the power he posseses as the century. Smaller reason I chose this specific stag beetle, it's black to match the Void. Also, all beetles start at meek little grubs and become the tanks that they are. To me this matches how Bob was just a troubled young adult that got turned into something greater. Also, I think they're cute.

Honorable mention to the Mole Cricket, solely because they have the same face.

Alexei Shostakov - Elephant Beetle

Okay this ones easy. Look at the SIZE of him. Big and powerful creature, yet they look terribly friendly. This one wasn't even a debate with the afformentioned bug friend, I was shown the elephant beetle and instantly agreed. I don't have as many story or character related reasons for this one. Purely based on shape and vibe. Big ass beetle, take it or leave it. If you want a little bit of character, while not done by elephant beetles, some species of beetle (mostly burying beetles) are good parents! So there you go.

Bucky Barnes - Buck Moth

This is another one where the name is doing some heavy lifting but stay with me! One, the color scheme. Two, the name. Three, the caterpillars of buck moths are hella venomous and just touching them can cause you some major ouch. Bucky is a pretty prickly guy. Also, buck moths are endangered and Bucky is a pretty endagered species seing that he's of a dead generation and made by a (thankfully) dead orginization. I also like a moth for him because, despite all the terrible things that this man has put up with, he's still attacted to the light. To being a good guy.

So Yeah. ThunderBugs! If some big old bug nerds want to tell me how this is all wrong uh.. do or don't man I'm going off vibes and wikipedia articles and prior knowledge. im doing my best.

Help me w/ a Fic

Okay working on It All Goes South (guess where we're driving) AKA My SamBucky divorce fix-it involving a kidnapping of the Thunderbolts/New Avengers + Sam's "Avengers" team (Joaquin, Kate, Kamala and America) (YES i'm making it up, you can't stop me). I'm debating how to deal with what's going on with the kidnapped so, please vote for how you'd like to see a silly story!

Thunderbolts Headcanons Pt. 4!

Style and Appearence

John's got the dad fits on standby. He tries not to look like your typical white dad (hence why he loves his uniform so much) but every once in a while he's out in the khakis and hawaiian shirt and the others make fun of him, though it's a bit endearing.

Yelena is a casual grunge / comfy girly in my mind. Did you see that eyeliner in the film? Her makeup bag is full and she'd give you her lipgloss if yours came off (diva!). Her looks don't matter a lot to her, but she still serves regardless.

Ava cares a surprising amount about her appearence. She's insecure, which is just another reason she wears such a concealing uniform. In a world where she can get away with wearing whatever she wants, she dresses in athleisure wear and surprisngly feminine stuff. Yelena taught her how to do her makeup

Bob dresses like that one indie bro at the record store, you know the one. He's also insecure about appearence but mostly because of how he feels like his body isn't really his own. So, baggy clothes and powering through.

Alexei could NOT CARE LESS. He wears the cheapest clothes he finds at the local thrift store. Ends up being wife beaters and track suits often. His vibe is tired grandpa that still goes for a run everymorning and it is Everyones Problem.

Bucky actually enjoyed the put together look of being a congressman. He dresses nice, henleys and button ups and such. It makes him feel nicer about himself. He's also the person who you go to when checking if the fit is good. He'll give a thumbs up or thumbs down and that's that.

Basically, they're the queer friendgroup that looks like they're all going to a different event.

Thunderbolts Headcanons Pt. 3

(Bad) Habits Edition

John cannot do things someone elses way. If anyone else dares to load the dishwasher 'wrong' his mood is ruined all day. It's not on purpose, but it annoyed the hell out of everyone. Bob and Ava took the approach of trying to learn John's ways. The others are trying to make him get over it, respectfully.

Alexei is a slob, leaves dishes and trash places. This really, really annoys Ava. She's so used to perfectly clean enviorments that she's become a bit of a neat freak. There was a week where she followed Alexei with a spray bottle and showered him in water if he got up without clearing his mess.

On the note of Ava, she forgets that she has to eat and/or sleep. Multiple times Bucky or Yelena has gotten up and found her working on something for Valentina. When asked 'have you eaten since we left you here' her response is usually a lot of thinking about when she had last eaten.

Bob talks to himself, like a lot. Full back and forth conversations. At first the team was concerned this was him talking to Sentry and/or the Void. After careful asking, its revealed it's just a long term effect of loneliness and mental health struggles. Used to having no one to talk to but himself. The others try and just cut into these conversations to stop him from spiralling.

Ava cleans almost obsesivlly. I like to think that SHIELD and those who kept her in containment would often tell her she can't just roam around in the Ghost suit for made up reasons, one being that she has an incredibly weak immune system. She still has this fear, so she'll get caught in a loop of cleaning things. John is surpisingly the best at stopping her, by spilling a big ass glass over the area she was cleaning and declaring it his problem.

Bucky's are less detrimental, but I imagine that anytime he hears a giant clattering noise or a scream he instantly calls our either Steve or Sam's name. The others make fun of him for this, but it doesn't stop.

Yelena talks with her mouth full, another not so serious one. In the Red Room the main time any girls could converse was during meals so ettiquite was only for show. When left alone they'd get all their words and thoughts out as fast as possible, leading to the speaking with mouths full of food. This grosses John and Ava out, but they grin and bear it.

Yelena also can't stand anyone over her shoulder. She will always move to shift the position. The others have caught on and have begun asking her to move instead of just reaching over her.

That part where they're in Red Guardian's limo and Alexei recognized Walker, and he's like, 'John Walker...' You just know Walker's bracing himself for another round of mockery.

But then Alexei didn't mock him at all! He just went, 'the second coming of Captain America, we have a lot in common' with so much enthusiasm.

I really love that for him 🥺🤌

Thunderbolts Headcannons!

Comforting Eachother Edition <3

If Ava sees somebody moping for no specific reason she'll go phase to scare them. Then at best they'll laugh or at worse they'll get annoyed. To her that is better!

Yelena tries her macaroni trick on Ava and Bob when they're isolating. Nothing like a superspy jumpscaring you with some comfort food.

John is actually the worst at comforting people, he'll try and give advice or help but it's almost always too honest and makes things worse. He tries though, and he's really good at giving people things to do when they're head is too quiet or too loud. Thanks John.

Alexei hits people with a dad special whenever he thinks it'll help. Sits them down and makes them talk. Annoyingly, it helps.

Bucky is good to just exsist around. No matter how upset the others are he'll let them sit and vent or just hang around. He rarely says much, but his presence is appreciated.

Bob is a surprisngly good talker. Despite how terrible his own mental health is he can still give some advice. Man had to learn other ways to cope and got weirdly good at it.

Theres always a lot of apologizing to be done around the tower, but often they do it with actions instead of world.
