Fjällbacka

🇫🇷 then 🇬🇧 bellow 😊 La côte Ouest Suédoise est constituée de nombreuses îles généralement séparées par des couloirs d’eau étroits et profonds, créant un archipel relativement étendu. Au milieu de ces îles on peut trouver d’anciens villages de pêcheurs naturellement protégés des tempêtes, qui sont aujourd’hui aussi des destinations estivales pour les suédois.

Fjällbacka est l’un de  ces villages constitué de mignonnes maisons blanches aux toits rouge orangés, avec une histoire propre et un charme particulier. Fjällbacka est un village particulièrement connu pour être le décor des romans policiers de Camilla Läckberg qui est native de Fjällbacka. L’auteure suédoise voit sa popularité locale égalée par Ingrid Bergman, actrice de renom qui passait beaucoup de temps dans ce village de pêcheurs.

Fjällbacka est une destination estivale très prisée que l’on compare parfois à Saint-Tropez, l’avantage de Fjällbacka étant que le village n’a pas encore (trop) été pris d’assaut par la jet set et le tourisme de masse: Fjällbacka est ce que Saint-Tropez était il y a une cinquantaine d’années.

The Swedish west coast is made of a set of islands separated by narrow and deep strips of water, creating a quite large archipelago. In the middle of those islands we can find old fishermen villages naturally protected from storms, which nowadays are also summer destinations for the swedes.

Fjällbacka is one of those villages with cute white houses with red/orange roofs, with a genuine history and a particular charm. Fjällbacka is known for being the set of Camilla Läckberg`s novels, a famous author native from the village. Moreover, the famous Swedish actress Ingrid Bergman used to spend time in Fjällbacka and the city is full of references to the great artist that she was.

Fjällbacka is a very famous summer destination that is sometimes compared to Saint-Tropez, with the notable difference that Fjällbacka has not (yet) been taken over by the jet set and mass tourism: Fjällbacka is what Saint-Tropez was fifty years ago.

La Forêt en Hiver.

La majorité du territoire Suédois est couvert de forêt relativement dense. Les balades en pleine nature ne manquent pas, l’hiver n’est pas une raison pour rater une occasion de profiter du plein air. En hiver, la forêt est un lieu en apparence très calme : la neige atténue tous les bruits et beaucoup d’animaux ont migré ou bien sont en hibernation. Mais l’on peut quand même apercevoir les traces d’un lapin ici et là, où parfois les marques d’animaux plus gros comme des chevreuils. Les humains civilisés que nous sommes restent aveugles à la plupart des signes de vie en forêt, ce qui n’est pas le cas des chiens qui semblent constamment sentir la présence de la faune sauvage.

Malgré la neige, on pressent que la nature cherche à grandir à tout prix : les pouces vertes cherchent inexorablement leur chemin à travers le manteau neigeux. Le printemps est proche !

Most of the Swedish land is covered by quite dense forests. Hikes in the nature are still ongoing as winter is no good reason to miss a fresh air trip. In the winter the forest is a place that appears very calm as the snow dampens every noise, and because a lot of animals are spending the winter in warmer places or hibernating. But we can still notice the tracks of a rabbit here and there, or even those from bigger animals. The civilized humans that we are stay blind to most of the signs of life in the forest, whereas our best friends the dogs are constantly smelling the wildlife.

Despite’s the snow, we can feel that spring tries to take over as fresh green branches are trying to burst through the snow here and there. Spring is close!

Neige, neige, neige. L’avantage des hivers froids viens dans l’absence de pluie : c’est la neige qui prend le pouvoir et recouvre le monde d’un manteau blanc immaculé. Tout deviens beau sous la neige, elle donne même un aspect romantique à la plus dure des œuvres architecturales. Venant d’une région où il pleut plus qu’il ne neige, je remarque les aspects particuliers des deux états : le soleil perce facilement à travers la neige tombante, alors qu’il reste souvent invisible sous la pluie. En revanche, les arc-en-ciel semblent impossibles sous la neige : les concepts de beauté sont échangés. En hiver sous la neige on assiste également à la formation d’une multitude de glaciers éphémères qui souvent disparaissent dans la semaine, mais parfois survivent jusqu’au printemps pour constituer des rivières ponctuelles. Place à la beauté printanière! The good thing about cold winters comes in the lack of rain: the snow takes over and covers the world with a white coat. Everything becomes beautiful under the snow, it even gives a romantic aspect to the toughest architectural constructions. Coming from a place where it rains more than it snows, I notice particular aspects of both: the sun can pierce more easily through falling snow, when it mostly stays invisible under the rain. Moreover, rainbows seem impossible under the snow: beauty concepts are swapped. During snowy winters we also witness the creation of numerous small glaciers which often disappear within a week, but sometimes survive until spring to create ponctions rivers. More room for spring beauty!

Balade sur Djurgården

L’île de Djurgården est située à l’Est de Gamla Stan, la vielle ville de Stockholm. Cette bande de terre est très proche du centre ville, son nom peut se traduire littéralement par “le jardin des animaux”. Ce morceau de l’archipel apparait hors du temps car il habite très peu de constructions modernes, mais plutôt des maisons en bois typiques de la Suède. L’île habrite de nombreux musées, comme le Vasamuseet, le Nordiska museet, ainsi que le musée consacré au groupe de musique pop ABBA. On y trouve également Skansen qui à la fois un musée en plein air et un Zoo d’animaux nordiques. Sur Djurgården on peut aussi visiter Gröna Lund, le parc d’attraction de Stockholm. L’île est dans l’ensemble très proche de la nature, ses côtes restent un havre de paix pour de nombreux oiseaux qui viennent s’y réfugier en toutes saisons.

The Durjgården island is at the East of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town. This strip of land is very close to the city center and its name can be literally translated to “animal’s garden”. This bit of the archipelago seems out of time because it has very few modern constructions on it, rather typical wooden Swedish houses. The island also hosts numerous museums such as the Vasamuseet, the Nordiska museet, the ABBA museet, or Skansen which is both an outdoor museum and a zoo for nordic animals. On Djurgården you can also find Gröna Lund, the theme park of Stockholm. Overall, the island is very close to the nature, its shores are a shelter for numerous birds that can find peacefulness during any season.

Balade hivernale au bord de l’eau. Les hivers sont rudes à Stockholm et il n’est pas rare de voir l’eau geler entre les îles de l’archipel. L’eau qui irrigue Stockholm est celle de la mer baltique, son faible taux en sel lui permet de geler plus rapidement qu’un océan classique. L’hiver n’arrête pas la vie pour autant, les bateaux continuent de naviguer vers les pays baltes, la Finlande et la Russie. Même les petits bacs vont braver les milliers de petits icebergs qui peuplent le fjord. Cependant les bateaux du Stockholm Yacht Club restent à quai : leur grand âge et leurs histoires souvent inhabituelles leur autorise un repos bien mérité.

The winter is harsh in Sweden and it is quite common to see the water freeze in the archipelago. The water flowing through Stockholm is from the baltic sea and is not too salty, which makes it easier to freeze. In the winter, life does not stop in the archipelago, the boats continue to navigate to the baltic countries, Finland and Russia. Even the small passenger carriers find their way through the thousand little icebergs that populate the fjord. But the boats of the Stockholm Yacht Club stay on the dock: their old age and great stories granted them a rightfully earned rest.
