Hey folks! I’m still kickin’. Since today’s patch apparently broke a ton of CC and there’s no fix out yet, I thought I'd just drop by and let whoever may be interested know that you can find me over at @aroguexenolith. It’s mostly the typical random tumblr stuff, with a lot of earth science/geology thrown in. Oh, and the occasional poem of mine, too!

Yup, I disappeared.

And I figure I owe all of you cool people an explanation...

So, I was supposed to have graduated college back in May 2016. I ended up spending that academic year at home instead, due to both financial and mental health concerns. Depression is something that’s been part of my life, in varying intensities, since I was in elementary school. It was really really bad my junior year of college. I spent my time at home seeing a counselor regularly, having no social life other than my family, and working part-time at my dad’s office. It gave me an opportunity to get back on my feet again. To untangle all the angry snarls that had woven themselves into my thought patterns.

And I got a break from the New York winter! (My home is in Georgia.) I can’t tell you how happy I was, to be surrounded by green things in all four seasons. I get seasonal depression big-time, when everything around me is gray and dingy at the sun doesn’t show itself from the end of November to the end of April.

So, yes, as involuntary as it was, a year off from college was good for me.

Well, financial aid worked out this year, so I am up in western New York again. I’m a little over a month into this semester, and so far it’s been good! (Though let’s not talk about physics. Or my wreck of a 23rd birthday.) I’m going to research with a professor (looking at rocks under a microscope, hell yes). One of my roommates has two dogs! I have a job on campus, and am generally all-around more responsible, more capable, and more confident than I ever was my first three years of school. Here’s hoping I can keep up the momentum...!

So, will I go back to posting about my sims? Well, the best I can do is a very tentative maybe, for now. I don’t have a lot of spare time I can devote to writing posts and maintaining a steady flow of content. On top of this, I haven’t played sims at all since August. I don’t really have a desk at my place here. :(

I would love to come back! But I’m gonna hold off for now, until I’m sure I can manage the distraction. If you want to say hi, catch up a bit? Go for it! I’d love to hear from you folks. And it won’t take me three months to get back to you.

In the meantime, I hope you all have a wonderful autumn.

Vivian and Uriel have long discussions, prompted by almost anything, really: the evening news, music on the radio, a plant in bloom, the quirks of human culture. It’s very interesting to get a non-Terran view on these things, Vivian finds. What’s more is that, when discussions turn into debates, Uriel will readily admit when he’s wrong. So debates never end in hurt feelings.

They may also spend some time flirting...

Vivian: “This just goes to show that the universe is not very genre-savvy. Well, it worked out for you at least, Andre.”

Andre: “Okay but next time...next time let me know what I’m getting into before I drink it?”

Vivian, unhappily: “Hm. Yes, that’s probably a good idea. I’ll make some nice official paperwork for it.” She pauses. “Somehow this facility operates without any kind of ethics board, but man. If we had one, they’d have a heyday with this.” She gives a rueful laugh, and wanders off.

Vivian: “Huh. It worked.”

Andre: “Wow...I’m so slender!”

Andre: “Oh my God, what exactly is that serum going to do to me?!”

Vivian: “Don’t you worry, it’s just a slimify serum. You won’t have to diet anymore!” Realizing something, “Ohhh. But now that I think of it, something that burns away bodily tissue could have some pretty bad side effects...” Vivian begins to look a bit unsure...

Andre: *makes a small, terrified squeak*

I edit the vast majority of my townies...because I just can’t stand their horrendous fashion choices, haha. Anyway, thinking about your problem, I really don’t think there’s a way you could mod around it. Active careers follow the same sort of format as events like parties, and with parties you can only have one host? The only way I can think of that miiiight work would be to somehow get both sims’ actions to contribute to the same goals? If that makes any sense.

Anyway what do I even know about modding. :P

Hi! Sorry to bother you, but how did you get the two married scientists to both be at work at the same time? I have two married sims in the same active career, and when I go to work with one, the other won't show up... is there a mod for that maybe?

It was just a happy coincidence for me. :(They’re two townies who I don’t play. I wish I knew of a way to help you! If I ever hear otherwise, I’ll let you know.

Andre: “Thank you! Don’t mind if I do.” He takes a hearty swig. “What is this, by the way?”

Vivian, cheerfully: “It’s an experimental serum I just mixed up!”

Rainn: “Andre, they’ve got her messing around with dangerous stuff, now.”

Andre: “Who are you talking about, honey?”

Rainn, bristling: “Vivian-fucking-Morrow! I have no idea why the higher-ups trust that ditz with anything more sophisticated than a screwdriver.”

Andre, with long years of experience dealing with Rainn...: “Oh come on, now. That was rude. And it’s really not our place to question what the Administration does, hmm?”

Rainn: “All I’m saying is, this is going to end badly. And when it does, I’ll be there to remind you that I told you so.”

Ethics aside, Kayson running off to clean everything he can was kinda hilarious. If he wanted her to feel bad about using him as a guinea pig, he should stop leering at her. Perv.

This was not really Vivian’s favorite research. But when the Admins asked for it explicitly, who was she to question them? When they told her “jump,” she did. When they told her to start looking into forms of mind-control...she did.
