BETA READERS SEARCH
Hello everyone! I am looking for beta readers for my historical fantasy novel, A Drink to the Monstrous. 🩸 It's 100k words long, and you would be asked to fill in three feedback forms over the course of your reading.
Pitch:
Paris, 1901. Sasha Rousseau knows how unkind the world can be to the monstrous and the queer. That’s why she opened the Alcove, a club where anyone is free to be themselves — except vampires. These are creatures of appetite. Where they lurk, violence follows. Sasha can cast her share of protective spells, but she’s yet to find one that can pay her rent. When she is offered a ridiculous sum to help solve a murder, she usually wouldn’t hesitate. It’s life-changing money — enough to buy the Alcove. But this offer is coming from Isadora Valori: a whip-smart, ambitious, infuriating wretch. And the one vampire Sasha loathes most of all. Isadora has no memories left of what happened between them, centuries ago; Sasha intends to keep it that way. If she can keep her secrets and her temper, she can solve this case, get paid, and never see Isadora again. That is no easy feat with the obsessive loathing beating in her chest. Especially when it seems that though Isadora does not loathe her back, the obsession is very much mutual. But with woundless corpses piling up and a murderer capable of poisoning memories, solving this case may awaken more dangerous ghosts than old betrayals.
Come for the unhealthy immortal gays, stay for the wholesome found family ✨️

Hi! I hope you are doing well. I am sorry for bothering you, but I wanted to reach out, say hello, and say that I really enjoyed your Side by Side fic over on A03. I was reminded of it after picking up Vicious by V.E. Schwab again. Needless to say, back in 2022, I actually wrote an analysis of Side by Side for a course assignment in discussing the importance of fix it fics and explaining the importance and need for alternate universes as ways to connect with the characters and these "what if" scenarios. (I was also invited to present it at a Gender & Sexuality conference on a panel, too). I say all this to tell you how much I appreciate you writing the fic and expanding the story of Eli and Victor. It truly allowed me to educate and showcase the world of fanworks to my classmates who had little to no interaction with the fanfiction world and the importance and validity of the fanfiction genre.
Here is a snippet of the conclusion:
Fanfiction matters and the fic Side by Side matters, since it is able to open alternate options to a story an author decided to take in a whole different direction. In specifics to Side by Side, it explores a queer relationship, and it is important especially for younger people to be exposed to this because it further extends the audience reach and allows other readers to see themselves in writing and know they are not alone. It expands the community and allows others from specific group to find each other and also have ways to relate to one another as well. Zines are known for providing community, and fanfiction thrives from multitudes and collections of them which is why they are so important.
Once again I am sorry for how long this message is, but I wanted to let you know how much your work is appreciated. I enjoyed being able to show others the value and importance of fanfiction, especially in expanding and exploring alternate universes and writing other endings (or beginnings) for beloved characters!
oh, wow. I don't even know what to say — this means so much to me! Thank you for telling me! It's so great that you advocate for the importance of fanfiction and fix-it AUs, and I'm glad you could use mine as an example. That's just... really neat! Thank you! I'd love to read the rest of that assignment, if that would be okay with you? Totally cool if you'd rather not! But that sounds super interesting.
Thank you so much!!! ah!!! this has me so emotional I can't even

I am calling upon your encyclopedic knowledge of kanej fics. Do you happen to recall a fic where Kaz got roped into helping the Ghafa’s make dinner (“dinner is a pretty hands on experience here” or something like that) and as he’s cutting carrots, Inej goes “I didn’t expect you to be so good at this,” to which Kaz replies with something like “Carrots, fingers… they’re both cylindrical.” ???
I simply cannot find it??
Yes! After some digging through my bookmarks, I can confirm that it’s “a long way to healing” by phybe. :) Such a great fic!
#this is so funny to me#I'm so glad that my silly carrot joke stuck in your memory anon hahaha#and camelia wow good job for finding the fic#i now declare this my legacy
