Something like this would be so colossally helpful. I'm sick and tired of trying to research specific clothing from any given culture and being met with either racist stereotypical costumes worn by yt people or ai generated garbage nonsense, and trying to be hyper specific with searches yields fuck all. Like I generally just cannot trust the legitimacy of most search results at this point. It's extremely frustrating. If there are good resources for this then they're buried deep under all the other bullshit, and idk where to start looking.

Behold!
So this is what it looks like to try and launch an art career from scratch. Basically an outline of the steps I need to take to move towards the career I want. I know I could have done this digitally, and it would be a lot neater, but I kind of needed to see it physically in front of me while I worked it out in my head. While there are some minute details I didn't bother to make cards for, if you can think of anything big I've missed, please chime in!

Hello, friends!
I reworked the ol' "Schweizer Guide to Spotting Tangents" lecture from my comics-teaching days, figured I'd share it here. If you want a free, printable PDF for yourself or to share (especially if you're an educator), you can find it at the bottom of this same lesson on my website.

I love it when you can see a brushstroke in a drawing. When you can tell what movement the artist made with their wrist to make that line. When you can see the choices they made in the colours, in the way they blended. I love an art style (be in digital or traditional) where you can SEE life in it. Where it's not perfect, where you can see the human being behind it

Surprise gift for an old friend 😊💚🧌
I'm pretty proud of it, considering how little I've ever worked with alcohol markers. I used them in college (grad. 2012), but not the way they were intended really. More for line work than coloring, if you catch my drift. It's a pity it's on crappy sketchbook paper, lol. If I do anymore, I have to make sure to either buy marker paper or Bristol board. Markers used were mainly Prismacolor, with some Copics and Artsmith thrown in, and highlighted with white gelly roll ☺️🌸

Also, haha, funny thing- I may have completely forgotten to post this two months ago when I made it and its been languishing in my photo roll ever since 😬😅
Little cutesy portrait I did of my bf and I for Christmas (2024).
Jumped feet first back into digital art (IbisPaint) to create it, and to my surprise, mostly remembered how everything works!
He's such a sweetheart 🥰

Hey y'all! I've been on a bit of a journey the past few months, trying to work back up to the point that I can create finished illustrations again and start my own character design website. At first I think I was trying to push myself too far, too fast, wanting to get back in the saddle. But that was extremely overwhelming, and ended up just causing me to freeze up with executive dysfunction and perfectionism. So I'm starting back with the basics now, drawing every day in my sketchbook with no pressure, so I can develop my ideas and get comfortable making art again. Luckily, I have thousands of peers online who inspire and encourage me, even if they don't know it, like @Bubbs6969 on YouTube! Here's my sketch for their "OC Pause Challenge" as a peek at the kind of thing I've been doing. Thanks for stopping by!

unsure if my ask went thru bc i didnt see the popup that said it sended over so i’m typing it out again
i NEEED NEEDD a tutorial on how you draw & design mechs bc the way you draw them is literally perfection in every way. this is from an anon who wants to make mech ocs but is unsure where to start theyre so complicated to design
dusting off my tutorial brain
Tumblr media
my style of mech is very influenced by transformers (mix of different continuities and tf artists that I like) so I look at a lot of characters for inspiration
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's a lot of stuff you could add to it too like vents, pipes, antennas, fins, wires, joints, etc..

uhg god my old art was SO- *remembers there's no point in being dismissive of my old art bc i was still learning and it's not fair to disregard the efforts of a young artist, even if it's my own work* *through gritted teeth* foundational to the development of my current style and skill level

I wanted to ask you an art question. I was self taught and I start drawing people with the circle head but even tho it does give me the emotion i want when the expression is done I feel like it limits the movement of the character. What do you suggest when drawing
This is a really good question! I’m also self taught haha.
The main thing I focus on when it comes to drawing expressions is capturing the life of the person underneath. Your face holds a very watered down version of what’s actually going on inside of your head, so I try to emulate the thoughts and anguish of a character as if I’m writing their emotions on their face (if that makes any sense haha.)
Several emotions and thoughts can be happening on your face at once as well. Your eyebrows could be shocked while your mouth is angry, your nose can be disgusted while your eyes are happy, your forehead could be confused while your cheeks are thoughtful, stuff like that. Your face is a marionette for your characters thoughts and ideas

Wanted to say Glaze 2.0 is AMAZING.
What took 30 mins+ before, took me THREE MINUTES last night. WITH my other programs still running.
For folks who tried Glaze but haven't been using it due to glazing time, give 2.0 a chance!
I've heard that other folks have had it taking the same time/longer, but the quality is so much better. Your settings will determine the outcome, but it's definitely a huge improvement over the initial release version.
This update was super sexy of the Glaze Project. You can download the updated version from their site HERE!
(You should also use in conjunction with Nightshade!)

hot artists don't gatekeep
I've been resource gathering for YEARS so now I am going to share my dragons hoard
Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.
Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.
Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.
Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.
SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.
SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.
Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.
Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.
Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.
Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.
Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.
