Hii guys ! (yes yes I know Girls too, I don’t discriminate :p)

No I did not fell of the earth but I might have been hiding under a rock (well more a mountain of pillows and blankets with a lot of snacks and coffee)

So today I’m writing a review about Mirage by Somaiya Daud (I’m glad I’m writing this review cuz I have no clue how to pronounce her name…sorry!)

I received this book in my Fairyloot box from September 2018 and I finaly had time to read it in between work, studying and daily life.

Short synopsis:

It’s about a girl, Amani who lives on a smaller moon in a big galactic empire  that is dominated under the brutal rule of the Vathek empire (yes the bad guys!)

She is a dreamer and wants to be free one day and explore everything herself outside her little moon.

But on her majority night she gets kidnaped by imperial droids because apparently she looks exactly like the not so nice Vathek princess Maram who is so hated by everyone even her own family, so her life is constantly in danger…

That’s why Amani gets kidnaped to be her body double and take the bullet for her. She gets groomed/forced to act exactly as the princess to make public outings in her place, but she must succeed to convince everybody that she is the real deal because failing is equal to death, not only her own but also from the once she cares the most off….

My thoughts about the book:

I dived blindly in to this book, I had no idea what to expect of it…. An intergalactic book inspired by Moroccan heritage… eeehh…. I even can’t think about anything that might resemble that thought….

Belly dancing droids riding on camels true the dessert kidnapping Amani ?!? Flying Carpets ?!?

So I just opened the book and started to read it…

It started off very interesting, it immediately grabbed my attention and wanted me to keep reading that’s really a good thing! Because I have trouble getting in to a new book that keeps me interested after its first few chapters and this book did that for me so extra points for the writer !!! I really like the writing style, its not to complex just easy to read and understand, even for me as not a native English speaker, I flew true the pages.

Getting further and further in to the book the story develops slowly but you get enough information about the characters that it keeps you intrested in to the story. You  also get a bit of background of every charachter, piece by piece, chapter by chapter.

The characters also grow along with the story, there are a lot of twists and turns. Some people are not the one they seem to be as presented in the beginning of the book, that’s what makes it interesting! (not going to tell you to much about it, I want to keep  this review spoiler free!!)

I also liked the concept and the idea of the story. It’s unique, nothing I’ve read before. That’s always nice to discover new worlds and cultures.

The world is nicely build up and explained enough that you can imagen it and get sucked in to it. With his own complex rule system and all of that sort. The further you get in the book the more clear it gets. (It’s so exciting!)

Only the love part… You smell it coming from miles, I repeat MILES AWAY (or I read to many books that it gets so obvious to me). It starts off slowly and cold but blossoms open like a flower. At some points I was on edge reading parts of it like how can you be so stupid, just don’t…. almost pulling out my hair…hahaha But it was nicely written! And you can’t help it to also fall in love with Idris and his character.

Over all I really liked the book and would defnetly reccomand it to every fantasy, Si-Fi and young adult lover who is looking for something new.

I’m so excided for the next book, can’t wait to see how things are going to evolve/play out!

Hier een klein inzicht in mijn raar brein, Ik heb dus niet enkel veel te veel boeken en zeker een paar (lees: GIGANTISCH VEEL) boeken die ik nog NIET gelezen heb.
