so much of being objectum is just yearning for something unattainable sometimes (Like, I can't have a whole commercial jet plane hanging out in my house lol) sometimes I just want this
Tumblr media
something I don't see talked about a lot in objectum spaces but people have agreed with me when I've brought it up is how difficult it is to draw objects in a way that feels true to its beauty and essence. At least without doing a 1:1 replication of an image. But I don't like doing art that way. My objectum artwork is a constant battle between trying to make art that's creative and enjoyable to me while keeping the same energy of the object I'm portraying in the piece. I've gotten some (mean) criticism in the past for putting my anthropomorphic object drawings in the objectum tag but that's just the easiest way I can convey how an object makes me feel in artwork. It's hard to portray how much an object feels like its bursting with life and personality to me by just drawing the object as it is, as gorgeous as I might find the object in particular. Not because I don't find objects beautiful on their own I just really want to really show how the object makes me feel in the art I make. I consider myself a cartoonist first and foremost.
I will admit though, sometimes adding too much character to an object can make it lose its "objectness" and when it comes to a sexuality surronding objects that's, kinda important... For example a plane looks quite a lot different once you add a face to it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(and I'd be lying if I said I didn't find the regular plane 100x more appealing than the disney one, despite there being relatively minimal changes)
At the same time though, I could happily draw regular planes, computers, cars and whatever all day with zero added features. I love them after all. But me and a lot of other people can really connect to an object seeing it portrayed more anthropomorphised. I've had a lot of people come to me saying that specific brand of my objectum art introduced them to object sexuality because it showed objects in a different light than say, a still life could to an uninformed observer.
Either way that being said, I put a lot of thought into making my object art appealing to objectum people as an objectum person myself, it's not going to be to everyone's taste because I'm not them. But I hope one day I can really find that perfect balance for myself of object and anthropomorhisation that doesn't take away from the regular object itself.

something that drives me mental about the closed/open species debates I see floating around is the argument about unoriginality in closed species designs, but the incessant need to create your own oc of said species you just called unoriginal. I don't really care if someone makes an oc based off a closed species or "rip offs" I've heard them being called, I'm guilty of it. But to turn around and say that you're doing it because said closed species is unoriginal seems like you're lying to yourself.
The reason why a lot of popular closed species are fairly generic looking is because that's what has mass appeal. Closed species exist in a fandom space (furries) where a lot of people can only draw and design fairly generic dog/cat like creatures. So for a species to gain traction they have to be 1. appealing to that kind of audience (cute, fluffy, colourful etc) and 2. relatively easy to draw.
I see a lot of closed/open species being made by very talented designers who have the capability to create something really out there in terms of a species design, but also being talented designers know that they have a specific market they have to appeal to. But you also wouldn't be so drawn into making a character based off the species if it were that unoriginal and unappealing, it draws you in, it works. If you want to see originality and something really out there in a species design go into speculative bio spaces instead.

Goes onto youtube sees a long video on a subject I'm interested in
Ask if its an essay video or an unscripted video by someone who knows nothing about the subject
Youtube is confused
Pulls out a diagram that shows what is essay video and what is unscripted boring video
"It's a good video sir"
Open the video It's unscripted

Very preliminary poll for the next volume of HWC Vol 2. Would you like to see a theme for the next Handle With Care volume, and if so, which would you like to see most? There may be one or two additional rounds of polls if there are a lot of suggestions.

This is one of my theories that I haven't done any study on and am just going off of real world experience but I see a lot of people say that the modern American accent is just the old British accent when the first english colonists and what not went over there, but I honestly feel like the modern American accent came from the Irish accent?
Irish accents seem more similar to American accents than British accents are (I'm aware there's varieties in the accents ofc) I often find myself hearing someone Irish speak and getting confused for a moment thinking they're American, I've never had that happen to me for a Brit. I just feel like, with so many Irish immigrating to the US it'd make sense? idk I'm talking out of my ass. I get that the US used to be apart of the British Empire but I don't see a lot of people claiming to have much in terms of British ancestry, usually German or Irish (tbf, they could just be excluding the British part to save face but that's just me.) Accents develop quite quickly and I feel like an Irish influence would more readily be available for modern Americans than the british colonist times
