“There’s twelve of us. That’s including, it’s including myself.” He began to raise his shoulders again, but Maxwell didn’t seem to impart any judgement. He simply gave a slight nod and turned to look into the fire once again.

“UGH. THERE’S MORE OF HIM,” came from WX-78, but Wickerbottom shushed them as soon as the words left their chassis.

Webber’s reaction to that answer was similarly unnerving, with him simply nodding and saying, “you must have been eaten a LOT, huh?”

The next question was a reasonable one from Winona, simply asking, “why?”

“Well, I wasn’t eaten,” Wilson began perhaps a bit too quickly. Webber looked somewhat deflated. “I’m- We’re not really sure why we’re, well, we’re not really sure why we’re a we. Sometimes there’s another one of us after something significantly horrible happens, so maybe that’s it?”

“UGH. THEY REPRODUCE.” Wickerbottom shushed them again.

Mad Scientist let go of Victorian, who he had been shaking by his shoulders. Victorian thanked him under his breath before taking Guest by the hand and leading him upstairs to get some rest. One by one, they all filed out of the living room, until only Wilson and Verdant remained.

They sat next to each other. Both looked at the ground.

Verdant broke the silence.

“… Did I cause this?”

it will be continued, yes!!! at present, i have an audio first draft of the next chapter that i need to transcribe. unfortunately my audio processing isn't great, so i do kind of keep putting it off

this summer's been difficult for me, since i only have internet for one day a week and little cell service, meaning i haven't been able to talk to my co-author about the fic. when i do have internet and/or cell service, i'm exhausted both from the previous week of a fast-paced job and the long drive it takes to get somewhere that does have internet. i rely on my co-author a ton for ideas, beta reading, and getting past writer's block, and that plus the inability to look up prompts or game lore makes writing it pretty difficult

but rest assured, the fic is not abandoned!!

Maxwell hesitated, then took one back.

“You get to be all, say you’ve, say that you’ve reformed and that you’re better now. You’re better now.” It was as though he’d taken the lid off a pot he’d forgotten about only to find the water inside boiling, crackling, snapping at his face as he looked over it and making his eyes water.

He squinted his eyes and took another step forward.

Blue/purple lips and fingernails is a symptom of low oxygen in lighter skin tones.

In darker skin tones you're looking for grey or white lips and fingernails. Other places where this may be not evidence is the tongue and gums.

Figured since everyone gets taught what low oxygen looks like on lighter skin. Everyone should know what it looks like on dark skin too.

spoilers for the new Maxwell short

i was expecting it to drop tonight so i could work on homework, but nope, it dropped in the morning!

i’m still reeling over watching that short. like, it was a LOT. there is some concern that they’re going to push this into a “Maxwell is and always will be evil”, but i don’t really think that’s what they’re going into?

Maxwell seemed, well, really fucking guilty. when he saw the statue, he had a look of “damn, another one?”. exasperation, maybe. he didn’t make any attempt to save the statue from the rook. when talking to Charlie, he looked SO guilty at numerous points. almost like he was resigned to his guilt, maybe. and then the flashbacks pointed towards them being really close. like, he had photos of her in his house, he re-did the posters for his act, etc

maybe it’s wishful thinking, but i’m choosing to believe that he agreed to Charlie’s deal out of guilt. a second chance sort of thing. he hurt her so much already, he wants to make it up to her, something like that. do i know where this is going? absolutely not. i have a suspicion that Wilson will play into it, seeing as he not only noticed the new rose on the lapel but he also hasn’t had his refresh yet, but i really don’t know where this will go

i do like the detail of the survivors looking relieved to see that Maxwell was okay. that was great. i also like the detail of Winona’s piece on the board in that last scene with Charlie, where she’s looking right up at her with an expression i can’t really place. those were great

overall, i’m hesitantly excited to see where this goes. i don’t want to set my expectations too high and get disappointed, but i am curious to see what Klei is weaving

hey i figured out how to do one of these types of posts lol. that’s neat. anyway, i wrote chapter five, and i’m realizing as i make this post that it links to the first chapter and not the fifth. oh well

You seem to hand really Good, Solid thoughts about Maxwell. Are you worried about the rework? The idea of them retconning his redemption arc, replacing the "I'm so sorry, Charlie" line for "the show must go on" etc, all that? Or nah?

i've spent years thinking about him lol. the rework absolutely does leave me worried, and while i'm excited about what more they'll add, i'm definitely concerned about what they may take away

with the other reworks, they definitely seem to be using them to push the lore/story in a direction that it didn't seem to be going in a few years ago (Wickerbottom's short comes to mind for this). while i don't think it's necessarily contradictory to what Klei's already given us, it does seem to be looking backwards into the timeline rather than further ahead, which leaves the possibility of, well, retcons

i really hope that Maxwell's redemption arc is kept, even if not added upon. sure, the man can be an asshole, but i don't think he is nor ever was evil, and i don't want to potentially see them push him in that direction. i also really like the sort of environment a lot of fanworks set up, in that Maxwell's a standoffish but accepted part of the camp, and i don't want Klei to do anything that could dissuade people from continuing to make works like this. if you go with the idea that i do, that the survivors have been there for countless years, then of course he'll lose at least a little bit of edge over time, people will get used to him, he'll be One Of The Survivors. you could say the same about the guilt he has over Charlie, that he'd eventually get over that, but i wouldn't agree, considering he has reminders of what he's done to her.. well, everywhere. the roses you sometimes find growing, Winona sitting across from him around the fireplace. fuck, even night falling is a reminder of what he's done. i don't think that's something that goes away with time, but instead will take a proper confrontation of sorts with Charlie

i suppose that ultimately, if the rework goes in a bad direction, we could just take the gameplay and then continue our fanworks in the same way we always have. but it just doesn't feel the same, youknow? i think they've got a pretty good character here, and i'm worried they may fumble the bag
