There's something kind of fittingly symmetrical about how Evangelion's production problems start catching up with it as it goes on.

With every new reveal we find ourselves direr straits than before. Things seem like they couldn't get any worse and then they do. From bad to worse to horrifying to the end. That end. The End. (1997).

As everything collapses around our protagonists the production quality dips with it, like the fabric of reality itself is buckling under the weight of the trauma. It makes the final fight between Asuka and the MPEs even more heartbreaking that the everything is going right for her in-universe and outside, that everything is beautiful, dynamic, Sakuga (to borrow a term) and it isn't enough. You lose! Shinji's on the wrong page with everyone else and he's gonna make it their problem.

But upon interacting with him, it turns out he didn't have have a pride flag and he wanted to wave *a* flag in support of the pride march. So they had an exchange and now he has his own pride flag 😭🥹.
