Do you ever think you'll stop drawing fanart? No offense it just seems like the kind of thing you're supposed to grow out of. I'm just curious what your plans/goals are since it isn't exactly an art form that people take seriously.

Ah, fanart. Also known as the art that girls make.

Sad, immature girls no one takes seriously. Girls who are taught that it’s shameful to be excited or passionate about anything, that it’s pathetic to gush about what attracts them, that it’s wrong to be a geek, that they should feel embarrassed about having a crush, that they’re not allowed to gaze or stare or wish or desire. Girls who need to grow out of it.

That’s the art you mean, right?

Because in my experience, when grown men make it, nobody calls it fanart. They just call it art. And everyone takes it very seriously.

Charlotte Page deserved better. 

I’m sure we all know that, but now that I’ve had time to accept the end for what it is, now I can go back to being pissy about how she was treated for the remainder of the series. 

Charlotte already started off as a stereotype. She was the black best friend that rolled her eyes at white stupidity, engaged in snark and sarcasm, and huffed and side-eyed situations while being by Henry’s side.

Then somewhere along Season 5, she became the butt of all jokes from being the smart, perfect, rational one??? When previously in the series, Charlotte and Schwoz were pretty much joined at the hip to save the day while in the Man Cave and it didn’t matter how smart and rational she was then. 

Season 5 turned her into the know-it-all black girl. The one who’s always right, but for some reason, the white writers think it’s funny for her to be attacked for it episode after episode when it’s really not funny. 

Charlotte went from being such a key piece in the series to Henry’s character growth and emotional development by being there for him to just sitting in the Man Cave and barely having speaking lines that don’t result in her being lambasted for just talking.

And another thing. 

I wanted Henry’s breaking point to be little by little instead of him not graduating being the final blow. 

I wanted to see Henry walking into school for his senior year with his best friends at his side in excitement. 

I wanted to see him missing basic traditions like Spirt Week and getting mad he couldn’t dress up with his friends. 

I wanted to see him in a tuxedo on his way to prom when Ray tells him there’s an emergency and Henry ends up missing the whole thing. 

I wanted to see Henry stumble into senior breakfast from pulling an all-nighter and smelling like smoked honey after blowing up the Bee Keeper’s factory. 

I wanted to see him sleep-deprived with a comedically large coffee cup like in season 1 where he’s trying to balance it all. 

And then when Charlotte and Jasper start getting acceptance letters in the mail and talk about their different paths, and all Henry gets are rejections, that’s when he explodes. 

That’s when he tells Ray he’s done not having his own life for once. Then, while Henry takes his life back for a little bit, Ray struggles with not having a sidekick and admits how important Henry was and how much of his life he truly stole from him before we went into the finale.

That would’ve been everything.

Cat Santos’s mouse cursor hovered over the link. From “Dystopia University Admissions”, it read in 12 pt. Arial font, just like the rest of her emails. But unlike all of them, the message was starred and highlighted in yellow, signaling it unread. It had been sent at 6:58, exactly three minutes ago. Cat had been sitting at her desk, just looking at the sender, barely reading, and just looking at the words “Dystopia University” until they merged together into a blur.

Just click it, the tiny voice in her head said. The little voice in her head sounded like Nellie Bly, a journalist in the late 1800s who went undercover as an insane person to report on the brutality of mental asylums. Or rather, what Cat thought sounded like Nellie Bly. In her mind, Nellie spoke with a very slight New York accent, and her voice was slightly raspy. She often called Cat “kid”. What’s waiting gonna do, kid? Change your results?

The tiny, Nellie-sounding voice in her mind was right. The decision was already made. It was just up to Cat to find out.

“Okay,” Cat said quietly. “Here we go.”
