Between this and the "let people know how helpful i was", my heart hurts for her. I loved her the first time Caleb described her and that hasnt changed.

im bone tired so maybe i wont be as coherent as i want to be but theres something in me forever thankful that astrid is, even when evil-aligned, never an actual villain. shes just a woman maimed & abused by and for her country since childhood, who has learned self preservation over all else. she is not this villainous, bastard bitch that fans insist she is, every single time she's involved in a conflict, as they coo over a man who is her near exact mirror. she isn't here for essek to "teach her a lesson". she is here to discuss ludinus, because she knows abusers when she sees them, and to hide away in a smut shop because she has nowhere else to go. forever aware & jaded that everyone will see her as the crux of their problems. forever knowing that she is the abused unwanted animal of the empire's story, the second choice after caleb, mistrusted by protagonist & antagonist alike even when caleb wants to see the good in her that she's not sure is there anymore.

but it is. just a little bit. hidden under the weight of the knowledge she's going to be seen as a villain no matter what she does.

but i believe in her. i always have. and i wish others would too.

Work for the Harrow the Ninth ruana im making for her cosplay. I need to tighten down some of the threads in the skull still but progress.

Been thinking about parts of the song The 30th by Billie Eilish in comparison to Astrid and Bren (and yes i talk about them as astrid/bren vs astrid/caleb for reasons i can explain if anyone is interested).

So obviously my mind goes to Astrid visiting Bren after that fateful night. I always assumed Astrid and Wulf visited when they could (aka when Trent allowed). Even she meets Caleb after all those years, she still loves and holds so much love for Bren. This is shown in her not calling him Caleb/slipping back into calling him Bren. He is still very much the boy she fell in love with years ago until she realizes he isnt and he will never be again.

So lets start with she deserved to off Trent. I do not care about him "suffering" or his pride or whatever. She deserved to be able to kill her abuser and nothing will convince me otherwise.

But also, if I couldnt hate trent more, he was still going to choose Caleb. He always planned to despite it all. Like thats fucked up.

Sometimes the brainrot sets in and I think about how Astrid Becke deserved better. Like her "ending" was so much less than what she should have gotten.

I think ill be using this as my makeup start for my redo of Astrid.
