Obey Me! Random Headcanon #20

Barbatos Edition

Barb's constant workload is his own doing; this is partially because he does not trust other demons to work in the castle, but he also quietly balks at the idea of anyone else serving Diavolo in a personal capacity.

As a technicality, he is legally blind because of his broken ability to see the multitudes of different realities that may take place. The caveat of which is that 1) he can't make it stop, and 2) he must see all of them at once if he is unfocused. His eyes will not follow visual cues unless he forces them to.

On a related note, although Barbatos can pick out the current reality from the numerous strands of time, it is relatively time-consuming, and Barbatos typically uses magic to "see" instead.

Every so often, he has to restrain himself from changing the current reality to one where rats have never existed.

He is proficient in torturing people as Mammon suspected, though the main reason he does so is because Diavolo orders him to do so. Barbatos also taught Diavolo many techniques because the latter felt bad about making Barbatos do the dirty work.

If asked to introduce someone to tea, he will have the person take a 30 question long, open-ended survey and proceed to educate said person about how exactly to prepare the tea.

His tail is about as sensitive as his tongue, due in part to its variety of uses (which interestingly includes the ability to sense negative emotions). The fluid that it secretes can become volatile when Barbatos is stressed. And by volatile, I mean that its composition can alter into into a highly flammable, poisonous gas. It is for these reasons that Barbatos hates it when people touch his tail.

The Undates + Luke's screentime

Diavolo

Average: 6 hours per day

Usually for work purposes, but when he gets sucked into games, he plays them whenever possible.

He doesn't let his D.D.D. fall asleep when he texts MC because he wants to make sure he doesn't miss their text back. *Person who frequently has to turn "Do Not Disturb" mode on (and forgets it's on) to stop his D.D.D. from sending him a notification every minute.

Barbatos

Average: < 10 minutes per day

Generally has no reason to use his D.D.D. unless it's to scold Diavolo talk to friends, but otherwise has little other motivation to use it.

This is not to say he never spends a lot of time with electronics. If it happens to be convenient and/or effective, Barb will not hesitate to use any of them for long periods of time.

Simeon

Average: 5 hours per day

We all know he's severely technologically challenged, and he generally does not use his D.D.D. when applicable. That being said, he surprisingly knows how to touch-type quite well (95 wpm) and will write for hours until Luke pesters him to please eat something.

Outliers for his D.D.D. screentime are generally days where someone engages in the monumental task of attempting to teach him how to use the device, where the victim volunteer can spend over 10 hours in a frustrating IT hell educating him.

Luke

Average: 2 hours per day

Luke generally uses his D.D.D. for recipes, similar to Beel, and puzzle games that Levi got him into.

Simeon used to check his screentime (with Levi's help) to make sure that Luke wasn't getting attached to his D.D.D. Although he now rarely does it and has conceded that Luke can probably spend longer on it, Luke rarely deviates from the 2 hour guideline he was originally given.

Solomon

Average: 7 hours per day

Spends a lot of time on ResearchGate, JSTOR, Academia, etc. along with Devildom sites like MallusR (Major source for current magic research), T-LCC (Three-Legged Crow Conglomerate)'s blog, and Deaddit (An open forum with striking similarities to Reddit).

His screentime easily fluctuates depending on who he's with, and with MC in particular, he does not use his D.D.D. at all unless they're doing something like watching funny cat videos.

Obey Me! Random Headcanon #17

The Undates' + Luke's favorite anime.

Diavolo

Relatively well-known - Gintama; it's playful, asinine, and serious all at the same time; he loves the chaos and the fourth-wall breaking. His favorite parts are those where Gintoki and Hijikata are both featured.

More obscure - Magi; he loves the entire storyline, as well as all the major characters, but if he were forced to pick one, Morgiana would be his favorite. He ardently roots for her and quietly ships her with Alibaba. (Don't let him talk to Levi about that; he will throw a party.)

Barbatos

Relatively well-known - Elfen Lied ; Leave it to Barb to enjoy the infamous one, but Elfen Lied catches his fancy because of its brutal exploration of human nature. His favorite character is Kaede (Lucy/Nyu), who ignited a particularly vicious bone in his body.

More obscure - Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) ; Another callous discourse on human nature, and he has off-handedly remarked that many of the seven brothers would have been dragged off to the anime's version of Hell long already, a fact which he finds amusing.

Simeon

Well-known - Hunter x Hunter ; He's in it for both Gon and Hisoka. Gon, because he admires his resilience, and Hisoka because his character makes him itch to write even more bizarre characters.

More obscure - Trigun (1998 ver.) ; It's an oldie, a goodie, and fairly unique. He loves Vash and his ideals, and he once likened him to Lucifer, if Lucifer hadn't become hardened and cynical (the person in question did not appreciate this comparison).

Luke

Well-known - Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan (The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.) ; he laughs at some of the ridiculous things Kusuo has to deal with, but he thinks Kusuo is too mean and arrogant. He likes Kaidou because the Chuunibyou sufferer ultimately has a good heart.

More obscure - Sakamoto desu ga? (Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto.) ; another comedy anime, Luke initially had a preference for Yoshinobu before Sakamoto grew on him due to his acts of kindness and coolness. (Yes, he hummed the opening a lot.)

Solomon

Well-known - Chainsaw Man ; he initially wasn't interested until around the second or third episode. He stayed for Makima because she made him curious and soon found himself swept into the story that was more complex than Denji might have made it out to be.

More obscure - The Ancient Magus' Bride ; he thinks the story is sweet, particularly Chise's consistent exposure to the wonder of the world. He was pleasantly surprised by the turns the anime took.

How the brothers play truth or dare

Lucifer

Usually picks truth during his turn because his brothers dare him to do outrageous things like acting like a dog for five minutes (which, incidentally, turned out quite poorly for the dare-r (Mammon) because Lucifer bit him several times saying he was a hunting dog. He can be semi-playful when MC is present.)

A bit of a copycat in that he'll ask the same dare or truth as someone else. He's not usually interested in the game unless a) his brothers have done something wrong or b) MC is playing.

Under the circumstance that MC is playing, depending on their relationship status he will certainly use the game as an excuse to flirt. Which may occasionally lead to a more private game of truth or dare.

Mammon

Almost always picks dare because his brothers ask him pointed questions like "did you steal x from me a year ago" or "how much do you love MC" (He often tries to cheat either way.)

As per usual, he's in it for profit, so whether the brother asks truth or dare, he's trying to make money off it. Naturally, Lucifer drafted a set of rules, which was signed by everyone but the person in question to prevent something like having dares filmed.

If MC is playing, he has a habit of daring them to do things that he isn't necessarily prepared for, e.g. kissing his cheek.

Levi

Leans towards picking truth because he usually thinks words are less embarrassing than actions, but he surprisingly never runs from the challenge as if he needs to "win" truth or dare.

Many of his truths and dares have to do with Hana Ruri, though other topics unrelated to anime are not off the table. He once asked Belphie, who had chosen truth, to rate the last movie he made him watch. The house was soon flooded.

If MC is playing, he unintentionally tones down his truths and dares to spare them from embarrassment until someone points it out.

Satan

If he's in a good mood, he'll pick either truth or dare as a 50-50 split, but if he's in a bad mood, he will almost always pick truth.

He will dare Lucifer even if Lucifer has picked truth and proceed to call Lucifer chicken. Oddly, one truth he asked of Lucifer was "Do you secretly consider me your son?" (to which Lucifer replied: "If I had a son like you, just counting the number of times you've said 'I hate you.' wouldn't have been enough.")

If MC is playing and depending on how many ridiculous requests they've already gotten, he will likely err on the mundane side. Nevertheless, MC can expect to meow several times.

Asmo

Gets really excited and sometimes asks for both a truth and a dare at the same time so he can decide which one is more exciting. He will, however, cheat if he bites off more than he can chew.

Frequently asks for some hot gossip if he thinks that the given bro will give it to him. If the subject chooses 'dare', his standard choice until provoked (i.e. getting a particularly mean dare / having to confess to breaking Belphie's telescope by accident.) is to express some form of fawning over him.

If MC chooses to play, he will throw affectionate gestures like kisses into the mix, and that kiss does not have to be directed towards himself. By popular begrudging opinion, Lucifer also put restrictions on this.

Beel

Often asks his brothers which option he should pick, particularly Belphie, in part because he doesn't have much to hide, nor is he usually embarrassed.

Like Asmo, Beel will not up the ante unless one of his brothers makes him do something cruel. Unlike Asmo however, Beel's questions and dares are almost all mundane with a few uncomfortable exceptions relating to the brothers' pasts.

If MC plays, little else changes; dares typically consist of Beel just asking for favors like getting him snacks, and truths have a 50% chance of being questions he already knows the answer to.

Belphie

Tells Beel to pick for him, which is more often than not an alternating truth-dare-truth-dare pattern. He's usually half-asleep anyway, so does it really matter? He'll just sleep through it if he doesn't feel like it.

Belphie is almost always the instigator to the biggest fights both when asking truths and giving dares, and he is the most likely to make absolutely ridiculous demands unless it's Beel's turn.

When MC plays, whether or not he shows mercy purely depends on how much he's been allowed to use them as a pillow that week and what MC has already told him to do.

Diavolo

Kisses you often, even if he's in the middle of a meeting (much to Barb's chagrin). Almost opposite of his best friend, he has very little restraint in public or in private (even less in private).

His favorite place to kiss is your palm because he likes it when you hold his face.

"Is it really such a bad thing if I want to squeeze you and cover you in kisses every day?"

Barbatos

Offers you quick, affectionate pecks here and there. He has a habit of catching you off-guard, and if his day has been particularly stressful, he may or may not snog you in the hallway and leave you flustered.

His favorite place to kiss is your ring finger, in part because of its royal implication, but also because he enjoys the texture.

"If you want more attention from me, you need only ask, my love."

Simeon

More of a hand-holder in public settings, but he's not above the kind of long, sappy kisses that make people roll their eyes.

His favorite place to kiss, like Levi, is also your lips. What can he say? They're the fountain of such beautiful words, and he's allowed to kiss those lips?

"Um, this is a little embarrassing, so would you mind closing your eyes?"

Solomon

Like Barb, he has a habit of surprising you. Some days, he'll seldom kiss you, and other days he'll kiss the back of your head, your cheek, your hand - anywhere that's convenient.

Ever since he found out how sensitive the ears can be, he has been obsessed with lightly pecking them just to see how much of a reaction he can get out of you.

"What? I'm just showing you how much I love you, MC. Does it bother you?"

How the undates + Luke show they love you

Diavolo

Buys you (way too many) extravagant gifts.

Trusts your words at face value.

Will actually listen to you when you tell him not to do something he really wants to do.

Would decrease the amount of flirting time he spends with Lucifer if asked.

Barbatos

Frequently asks you for opinions on both treats he makes as well as tea he serves.

Will finally use his long-accumulated vacation days for you regardless of whether or not Diavolo approves it (he always will).

Shows comparatively more expression around you and will break into unrestrained fits of laughter under the right circumstances.

If it is truly unmanageable to care for both Diavolo and yourself, he attends to you first.

Simeon

Listens to you patiently, even if you're ranting and stomping around Purgatory Hall in a fit that's worse than one of Satan's.

(With permission) You will appear in his books as a major character, either antagonist or protagonist depending on what your preference is; if you ask to co-write it, he's fine with that too.

Will commit a bloody murder for you if sufficiently angered.

Feels comfortable showing you his biblically accurate form.

Luke

Will accept it if you love demons and eventually grow to love demons other than Barbatos (but still will not admit it).

Will at least try to make anything you request regardless of its physical or technical difficulty.

Readily hits Simeon if he thinks he's putting too much pressure on you (though while Simeon says 'ow', he usually can't feel it).

Follows your advice to a t, even if that advice is scary for him to follow.

Solomon

Becomes your partner-in-crime for pranks, ideas and experiments, including things he's told you outright are stupid.

Uses his magic for small inconveniences, including when the weather is overcast during a picnic, where he will push the clouds elsewhere.

Takes cooking lessons Will not step foot in the kitchen without explicit permission.

Will try (emphasis on try) not to let you get caught in whatever stupid shit he pulls.

I think some people forget that some literature and some media is meant to be deeply uncomfortable and unsettling. It's meant to make you have a very visceral reaction to it. If you genuinely can't handle these stories then you are under no obligation to consume them but acting as if they have no purpose or as if people don't have a right to tell these stories, stories that often relate to the darkest or most disturbing parts of life, then you should do some introspection.

Side characters knocking when entering someone's room

Diavolo

Honestly depends on the day and who it is.

Almost never knocks for Lucifer unless he senses that Lucifer is in a bad mood.

Knocks for MC roughly 50% of the time. Usually, if it's for something fun like a date, he will not knock and just barge in. Possibly breaking the lock (or on more than one occasion, the entire door) in the process and getting several lectures in the same day for doing so.

Barbatos

Always knocks. Never a day he doesn't knock first when entering a closed room, and he even knocks when the person inside can clearly see him approaching because the door is open.

Occasionally makes a weird pattern of knocks reminiscent of morse code (it actually is). It's usually "May I?" but sometimes it's something along the lines of "Help."

Tries to make Diavolo knock more often for Lucifer at the least, but it never works. In part because Barbatos doesn't like stopping him when Lucifer needs to be caught by surprise.

Simeon

He tries to knock, but sometimes it just slips his mind.

He may remember that he didn't knock midway through entering the room, so he will step back out, close the door again, and knock.

Unfortunately for Luke, Simeon is more inclined to rip open his door without warning, even if he's upset. This has resulted in Simeon getting more than one book thrown at him.

Luke

Almost always knocks.

He has tried to be vindictive about it before, but after walking in on a few very awkward scenes (e.g. the brothers tangled into a horrifying mass of limbs during a game of Twister), he decided not to ever again.

The biggest reason he fails to knock is usually because both his hands are full with sweets intended for the party in question.

Solomon

Unfailingly knocks for strangers, often fails to knock for close friends.

Asmodeus? Rarely ever knocks. MC? Knocks slightly more frequently.

Whilst knocking on Satan's door, he once casted a hex that caused it to meow at random times. He had meant to make an apparition of a cat appear, but it was too cute to see Satan cooing and going pssspsspss for Solomon to tell him that there was no cat hiding somewhere in his clutter of books.

Separated into MC being rude about it and MC just doing it because they feel like it.

Lucifer

Disrespectful: He will probably force MC to change and will certainly lecture MC for hours as well as make them write an apology letter. Or seven.

Proper mimicry: Aside from initial confusion, if they don't tell him the reason they're doing it, he'll assume it's because they admire him. Ego boost 1000% with a slice of a self-satisfied "I am a good role model." He will, however, put a stop to it if it gets out of control.

("I can't have MC saying 'Why don't we share the bed?' in that tone! They're too young for that!" - a phrase which will make him panic regardless of MC's sexual knowledge.)

Diavolo

Disrespectful: If it's all in good fun, he'll probably laugh at some things unless they cross the line. Crossing the line being Lucifer having already told MC to stop three or four times (annoyed) or once (pissed).

Proper mimicry: Will constantly tease Lucifer about having a child and be silently envious that MC isn't mimicking him instead. What can he say? It's cute that Lucifer has a little human following him like a duckling. Will not stop MC from doing it at any point.

Barbatos

Disrespectful: Doesn't laugh, strongly disapproves, but generally does not act unless a) Lucifer wishes to but can't or b) Diavolo has in some way directed him to.

Proper mimicry: He won't say a word, in general, but MC will catch him chuckling and/or smiling to himself. If MC mimics one of Lucifer's bad behaviors, however, he will go into occasionally excessive detail to explain why MC should not do it.

Simeon

Disrespectful: Might laugh a little bit, but often doesn't appreciate it. Depending how much it irritates him, he may sit MC down and make them go through a lecture somehow more agonizing than Lucifer's.

Proper mimicry: He thinks it's precious, seeing MC being all proper and stern like Lucifer. Like Barbatos, however, he stops MC from doing things like killing hitting people for mildly pissing them off and will gently point out that while it is good to have a role model, part of growing up is also becoming your own person.

Luke

Disrespectful: This kid is torn. On one hand, he knows it's probably wrong, but on the other, Lucifer mocks him all the time. He follows Simeon's lead even if he think's it's hilarious.

Proper mimicry: We all know he's going to strongly dissuade MC from imitating a big bad demon like Lucifer with benign intentions regardless. He may, however, begrudgingly admit it makes them seem more responsible.

Solomon

Disrespectful: Will laugh and will let them go as far as they want as long as Lucifer isn't actively trying to kill them and said mimicry isn't annoying.

Proper mimicry: Intensely jealous. Can get passive-aggressive about telling MC to stop it, make subtle comments that he's clearly better to mimic, et cetera. Just kills the wizard to see MC appearing more eager to learn from Lucifer than himself.

If by "side characters," you're referring to Raphael et al., I can't really give you good headcanons because I'm not far enough along in the games to have gotten to know them beyond a few lines of dialogue in events, but I can give you my opinion on the former undates. --

Diavolo

Sleeps on his back, generally, but he tends to roll around.

Grabs things that come close. Pillows, people, phones, doesn't matter. If he can hold it, he takes it and doesn't let go, particularly if it's soft.

Sleeps like a hibernating bear. If he's not ready to wake up yet, chances are you'll be clanging pots and pans to get him out of bed. Despite this, he is a morning person once he shakes off his grogginess.

His sleepwear usually consists of a silk robe, but it's not unusual for him to decide to sleep with just a pair of boxers on.

Barbatos

Often power-naps while standing up; when he actually goes to his bed, he curls up into positions that look intensely uncomfortable, but he apparently finds them relaxing.

Once he is asleep, he does not move; once, Diavolo called a doctor in terror because he thought Barbatos was dead.

Liable to wake up at any point during the night, particularly if he hears anything resembling a mouse squeak. If you rap on the wall, he'll open his eyes and ask you what you need. I.e. Barbatos requires a DO NOT DISTURB sign despite his protests.

Takes his shoes, tailcoat and tie off, but he otherwise does not change his clothing to sleep

Simeon

Sleeps on his side with his hand buried under the pillow his head is on.

Because he often sleeps dangerously close to the edge of his bed, Luke will sometimes wake up to a loud THUD because Simeon dropped onto the floor (and continues to sleep afterwards.)

Generally keeps a very strict habit of sleeping for eight hours, partially on Luke's account. He usually wakes up in the middle of the night at least once a month and randomly starts texting someone like Leviathan.

Sleeps with blue, button-down pajamas decorated with clouds with a matching eye-mask. He cannot sleep unless it's completely dark.

Luke

Sleeps in fetal position under a lot of blankets, even if he's sweating (something about being afraid of demons clutching his ankle, or not afraid or whatever)

Has a habit of sleep-talking, sometimes saying sweet things about Simeon or Barbatos.

He usually sleeps soundly the entire night, but there are occasionally nights where he stays wide awake, either due to anxiety or excitement. Oddly, he tends to wakes up very punctually.

His sleepwear is very much similar to his dad's Simeon's, although many of the clouds are well-defined and have happy faces on them (He wanted the ones without faces, but they were not in stock).

Solomon

Sleeps on his stomach most of the time, more often than not with a weighted blanket on top of him.

Accidentally casts minor hexes and other spells in his sleep, so he occasionally wakes up to find Simeon huffing next to his bed with an empty cup and his bedframe a little burnt.

He sleeps quite well most of the time, but unfortunately, he often sleepwalks while doing so. He will occasionally find bruises in random places on his body and sometimes wake up somewhere completely random, like a jewelry shop.

He sleeps without a shirt and typically wears a loose pair of pants to bed. This occasionally annoys Luke, who thinks it's a little indecent.

--and just because I know someone who snores and practically shakes the foundations of any living space he goes into, no, none of them snore.

If Solomon has a teenage apprentice headcanons:

First of all, he is very happy just to have an apprentice that wants to learn everything they can from him

He loves the admiration, but he has a habit of botching spells on purpose to see if his apprentice can notice the flaw he put in; he thinks it's good to make them think he screws up a lot, since he doesn't want them to feel bad when they screw up themselves.

Praises them a lot, particularly if they aren't really gifted at magic. He tries not to make his apprentice too confident, but sometimes he slips.

Often has them engage in incredibly risky shit, but he won't let them do anything risky by themselves.

Often sends them out to do errands intended to sway the six brothers he hasn't contracted in his favor. This is mostly because the brothers would feel a lot worse about hurting his young apprentice than him.

Tends to treat them as younger than they are, even though they might insist that he stop babying them numerous times. If they get irritated about it, he'll just start teasing them.

Gets beyond pissed if someone hurts them, particularly if they keep quiet about it. Zero forgiveness, even if they ask him to forgive the perpetrator. Solomon can hold very long grudges and will see to it that they receive their just desserts one way or another.

If they're below the age of 16, he won't let them make contracts because he doesn't think they're ready for it.

Has a habit of making Asmodeus annoyed with him because Solomon gets jealous when Asmo coddles his student, particularly if his student takes a liking to Asmo. (That's MY apprentice!)

Gets really irritated with himself if they ask a question he doesn't know how to answer and will lock himself in the lab for days to figure out said answer.
