Help a Family in need

I am reaching out on behalf of my dear friend, Mohamad S., who is facing one of the most challenging times of his life. Mohamad is 37 years old and left his homeland in 2015 in search of a safer and better future. He’s a kind, hardworking man, and his small family has always been his greatest priority.

Living abroad, Mohamad has recently endured unimaginable loss and financial strain. Amidst the ongoing conflict in his homeland, his mother passed away, leaving behind his sister and her five young children—the last remaining members of his immediate family.

As the situation worsened, Mohamad managed to help his sister and her children escape to safety in Egypt, covering their immediate needs and securing a temporary refuge for them. Since then, he has been fully responsible for providing everything they need to survive during this transition.

In his efforts to support his family and cope with this devastating loss, Mohamad has found himself deeply in debt. To make matters even more difficult, he recently underwent knee surgery, which limits his ability to return to work for the foreseeable future. This has made it even harder for him to manage his financial responsibilities and the pressing need to provide his family with a stable future.

Mohamad is now working to bring his sister and her five children to join him in Belgium, where he hopes they can find stability and opportunity after all they’ve endured. This transition, however, requires significant resources that he is currently unable to meet alone.

For privacy reasons, we are not sharing Mohamad’s full name, as he has chosen to keep his identity discreet. While he initially refused the idea of asking for help, I couldn’t stand by and watch him struggle alone. I insisted on doing this for him because he deserves a chance to overcome these challenges.

Your contribution will help Mohamad repay the debt incurred during this difficult time, cover ongoing living expenses for his family, and assist with the costs involved in bringing them safely to Belgium.

Mohamad has been a good friend of mine for years, and I’ve always admired his resilience and generosity. Any support, no matter the size, will make an incredible difference in helping Mohamad and his family rebuild their lives after these painful experiences.

I really like what you did with the colors here!

(I've collected a bunch of Kerby Rosanes stuff. I plan on posting more from my own Alien Worlds. I'm barely halfway through that book, and Dark Fairytales is coming out in a month 😅)

Finished Colouring page!

So I recently got this new colouring book “Alien Worlds” by Kerby Rosanes, and I’ve been wanting to get it for so such a long time as I already have “Worlds within Workds” by him and love it, and so I was so excited to start it that I finished this page in 4 days. And I think I only used about 5/6 coloured pencils and a silver metallic pen for details like the claws and teeth. This colouring book has really inspired me to colour again so I’m sure you’ll probably see more posts like these in future haha 😏

Bad News...

So, my cake ended up broken beyond repair. I obviously don't have the time, materials, or energy to start over. Nothing bad happened, it was just an accident. I'm sorry it happened and I don't have anything more to share. I'm disappointed, but that's life.

A silver lining is that I learned quite a few things from the process today. And that means I'll be more prepared to try this same idea out for next year's cake! (To clarify, that'll be my next birthday. I'm still probably gonna bake more cakes before that, lol.)

At least I had some fun in the beginning.

Decoration Has Started

I just mixed up some modeling chocolate (for the very first time, so wish me luck going forward with it 😅), and it typically takes about an hour to set up, so I went ahead and started preparing the base.

Yeah, it looks sloppy, I know.

One great method for giving your giant cupcake a "wrapper" is to simply use the pan as a mold for candy melts. That way, you can basically make a shell.

I did try that initially, but it didn't work out, and I only have so much time. So, I went with the more typical option of putting frosting on the base instead. (I did try my best to spread it to the shape of a wrapper, though.)

The top half, meanwhile, is being propped up by a few clear-plastic lollipop sticks. You can find them at plenty of crafting/baking stores, and they're much stronger than toothpicks or bamboo skewers.

Does anyone have any guesses on what I'm going for here? (It's probably way more obvious than I'm acting 😂)

Phase 2 (sort of...)

Baking's done!

The top half was a little harder to get out than the bottom, but they both came out cleaner than I expected!

The actual Phase 2 won't be able to start until both halves are completely cool. And even after that, with the plans I have in mind, decorating will take a VERY long time.

(There's definitely gonna be some trial and error, since I'm the one behind it 😅)

Birthday Cake 2025

Welp.

Today officially marks that I've somehow survived twenty-three years on this spinning lump of space rock.

A few years ago, I decided to start a personal tradition of baking/decorating my own birthday cakes, and this year won't be any different!

While I've got nothing against more conventional circle or square pans, I wanted to step a little more outside the box this year. So, I decided to order a giant cupcake pan! (Thus sparking flashbacks of all the Big Top Cupcake commercials that bombarded my seven-year-old eyes at least once per week...)

And as for the actual cake part...

Just like the ones before it, this will be red velvet, since that's my all-time favorite flavor for cakes.

I've said before that I'm a huge fan of Rosanna Pansino and her wonderful YouTube channel. I managed to get a copy of The Nerdy Nummies Cook Book back in college, and I've been using its recipes for a lot of my baking projects ever since!

Now, I've got big plans for decorating this thing, but that will have to wait until it's fully baked and cooled.

Oklahoma is attempting to pass a bill that would ban explicit romance novels. Authors, narrators, and sellers could all face fines of up to $100,000 and up to 10 years in jail for each instance.

If you live in OK, call your representative and tell them this bill should not be allowed to pass.

This is likely a test case. Republicans will try to pass it in OK and if it passes other states will likely try to pass similar laws.

In the meantime, get physical copies of books you like. Download those pdfs. Archive your AO3 stories and keep them on a physical hard drive. (Storing those files in the cloud could be problematic in the future as the company managing the cloud service can see what your files are)
