HELLO, welcome to this month's BRAND NEW Box from the lovely @treasuretress 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 Those of you who don't know, September is BLACK HISTORY MONTH! TT have sent regular emails educating us about black history, current events going on, and it's been just wonderful to learn more. 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊 So what has Black History got to do with Hair? Well I'll do my best to explain. As you may well know People of Colour (POC) have been discriminated against for over 400 years world wide, by people who look a bit like me (White folks), from slavery to institutional racism this isn't new to a POC, it's their every day life. Yeah it's horrible, and I can never begin to fully understand what that must feel like. POC have faced discrimination for wearing their natural hair, or protective styles in the work place, in public, at school and in the media. It sounds absolutely ludicrous to me. I've only had a teeny tiny smidge of experience with my natural curls with bullying, and some shitty abuse from toxic partners. Its literally ingrained into us that Straight hair is best, light skin is much more accepted than dark skin. Even poc who are lighter skinned are favoured more than their darker skinned peers. Imagine your beautiful big gorgeous curls kinks or coils being "Wrong' according to beauty magazines. How can something natural be such a "bad thing"? - Racism peeps. Its becoming better in terms of hair in the work place, which has been a long time coming. Its still quite common however to be taken more seriously with sleek straight hairstyles than curly, afro, kinky, coily hairstyles. I've heard tons of stories from women from all ethnicities who have been asked to wear their hair tied back or straight in order to be accepted for a job. Now unless you're a surgeon or its absolutely necessary in health and safety terms, what difference does hair really make? I feel I never know enough, so I apologise if I have details wrong, I'm always trying to learn and educate. This month is a SHEA MOISTURE SPECIAL. This news, I am struggling to believe it. I mean I believe it, but I wish it wasn't true. Chadwick Boseman was battling cancer for the past few years, between chemo and surgery he would appear on TV shows, at hospitals to visit kids, did charity events, and of course made iconic films such as Get On Up, and BLACK PANTHER. He brought a superhero to life, which for a nerd like me is always magic. I loved him in this role so much. He gave many people a role model, learning of his cancer has just reinforced how much of a great man he really was. Despite his suffering he was still there for his fans. I'm gutted, and very upset. It was an honour to have Chadwick in our lives, we will really miss him. In respect of this news, I am not going to post anything else for 24 hours. I tried a steam refresh. My hair is a little frizzy I'm not sure I prefer it to just refreshing with water or not. It looks nice. I found steaming with nothing, just made it meh. So I added a drop of peppermint, and a drop of an oil. Maybe not the best idea but I'm still learning. This wasn't horrendous, but I felt my hair wasn't really behaving, seemed a bit dry. So I then added a little leave in, all over then went back to my steamer and it seems to have made a better result for me. It's washday, yay. Just in time for my new month's box from @treasuretress which contains some goodies I've not used before, and I'm quite nervous. 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬😬 You may remember I started my natural hair journey initially by following the Curly Girl Method, I was using a couple of things I had bought by accident which contained silicones, but I pretty much excluded them from my routine for over a year. Recently, I've become more relaxed about my routine, I mean I'll not go near sulphates again, but silicones I have been reconsidering to add into my routine. Silicones are not popular in the curly girl method, they're often said to be heavy, can build up on your hair and be difficult to remove. I won't lie I've been pretty scared, yet curious when I've seen my favourite curlies use them in their routine whilst hailing their products as being fantastic with slip, definition etc. The first time I saw Be Curly Curl by @aveda it was being used by @manesbymell on her channel. Naturally I want to try this, but then I'm put off by the silicone inside the ingredients. After much reading, and listening to other curlies that use silicones and some other taboo products, I began to change my mind. This box did worry me a little bit, but I can't see products go to waste, so I thought I'd try the Styler and the Serum in today's routine.. My hair looks okay right? I'm worried that I've ruined my hair (yeah I tend to over dramatise everything ��). I've researched what ingredients remove product build up, including those effective of removing silicones, and I've found some sulphate free alternatives. My hair wrapping skills are much better with less material. I bought some rainbow satin material, I'm queer, I guess you could say Pansexual. I prefer feminine people but all in all, someone's genitals have no bearing on whom I date, or have sex with. Swipe to see the after photos. #Day2Curls after fixing up my results from sleeping while my hair wasn't fully dry yet. 🤣. I tried using the CAKE mousse on dry hair, I recommend not to do that, and use it on damp or wet hair. So when I made this error I corrected it by just lightly dampening my hair, reactivating my mousse, and then I smoothed @umbertogiannini Grow Long Serum over my hair. I've got to say this is my favourite mousse so far that I've had available easily in the UK. I love Not Your Mother's girl talk, but current situations has made me a bit wary of ordering from the US. Anyway love this mousse, smells really good, has a great hold, feels so smooth and soft to apply. I love the amount of shine I've got with it. So it's definitely a mousse I'd recommend and I'm gonna stock up as it seems to be quite popular. I think I may need to try the other products @cakebeauty.uk @cakebeauty offer. My natural hair colour is coming through quickly now. I'm growing out henna, frankly I'm done with colour and the maintenance of it..I'm hopefully going to be sorting something with temporary colour til my roots don't make me look bald.
