So the AMAZING and BRILLIANT and PERFECT @spockt drew this amazing Shine (from “The Silence After Song” and other stories) so I commissioned her to draw the love of Shine’s life, Valen (my wife @unpickingthetangles‘ character, who makes his first appearance in “Better Than This”), and look at this PAIR!! They’re perfect and I’m so happy :’D Thank you, Ness!

And I really don’t have the patience to deal with this kind of nonsense so I’m making and Instagram page for The Gift of Ashes where I’ll put all of my drawings, character trivia, worldbuilding, some chapter-related comics and the occasional quote.

I’ll still stick around here, so I won’t lose y'all, but I’ll be posting writing only - excerpts and tag games, asks…

If you follow all my blogs, you’re probably going to see this a few times, sorry. Sharing here, too, because many of my future projects (the entire Storm series) will be explicit, so I don’t know if this blog can survive. Not to mention I’ve been grossly inactive, but that isn’t going to be permanent. The ban on adult content, however, will be.

Note that the twitter linked above will almost entirely be fandom-related stuff, but once a site emerges that makes sharing writing as easy as Tumblr, I’ll see about moving my writeblr there. 

For now, this blog (and all my blogs) will still be active!

With the news today that will, almost certainly, kill fandom Tumblr (and will definitely kill engagement with all our explicit works), I have emerged from my accidental mental health hiatus to share another place y’all can find me. I have been meaning to post this FOREVER. This is something @spockt / @elkiyv illustrated to go with my short story “Shape” (which I’ve since taken offline, due to mitigating circumstances D:), and I absolutely adore it. It captures the mood of the story, and I just!! Love it!!!

This is for my reference as much as y’all’s, since I keep forgetting which of these I’m supposed to be working on. A list of the next four (four???? dear god) Shine stories in the order I’ll be finishing and sharing them:

1. “Holding Out for a Hero” -- In the days leading up to the concert of his dreams, Shine makes a restless, midnight trip to a gay bar and meets a very handsome, very sad guy, who looks like he could use a friend. Drunk off his ass and instantly in love, Shine accidentally invites this stranger to see his show, and -- slightly more intentionally -- asks him on a date.

2. “The Interview (working title)” -- Shine gets some bad news that hits him hard, and he goes to stay at his boyfriend Valen’s house for a few days. Over the course of this weekend, he decides it might be time to tell the world he’s bisexual, and do something with the platform he’s been given.

3. Untitled (I’ll figure it out) -- After dating about nine months, Valen finally invites Shine to meet what little family he has left, his foster cousin Rose, who might as well be his sister. Turns out Rose is quite familiar with Shine and his music, and she doesn’t approve of their relationship at all. Shine certainly won’t be the one to convince her they’re right for each other, so Valen decides to convince her himself.

4. “Nevada (working title)” -- Shine and Valen take a spontaneous, forty-hour road trip to the desert just to burn a mattress.(”And fuck,” Shine said, laying his hands on Valen’s chest. “And we’ll fuck, right?” “Is --” Valen stared at him. “Is that what we’re doing? You’re sounding like we’ve made a plan, Shine.”)

And so far that’s all I’ve written. All of these are in draft form and nearly done, hahaha. I hate myself :’)

I forgot I shared this snippet from the Shine/Valen meeting AGES ago. Currently editing the story in which it makes an appearance! And, well, editing this paragraph, ‘cause it needed it hahaha

The only paragraph I’ve ever written that’s worth a damn:

“Then, Bonnie Tyler happened. That was how it went, after all – Bonnie Tyler didn’t “come on the radio.” Bonnie Tyler didn’t “just start playing.” Bonnie Tyler happened. She blew in like a hurricane, shook the speakers like an earthquake – as inevitable and irresistible as a natural disaster. And when Bonnie Tyler happened, she happened to him.“

Listen I know everything I have written and posted about Shine has been really sad, and there's a couple more sad things to come, but this week I wrote a Shine/Valen sex scene filled with so much corny, ridiculous flirting so like ... the relief is on the way. Got a few things to finish and share before that, and then it's just sexy, fun flirt times starring Shine and his true love.

Since I finished my novel, I’ve been padding out NaNoWriMo with other writing! Finally finished this story I’ve been working on for AGES (and took some time out of NaNo to edit it). 

Thank you so much for reading, if you decide to read it! <3 It means so much to me! This story goes into so much of Shine’s backstory, and why he is the way he is, and how fucking great his ma was. So it’s ... important to me, hahaha

When you finish a book...

You think back on the aching thumbs from typing on your phone while walking the hallways at work, typing while you're walking down the street, while you're waiting for someone to show up to coffee, while you're on the toilet, anything to get a little farther ahead, a few more words or a full sentence if you're lucky. You think of the sacrificed lunch breaks at work, the nights typing in bed and the mornings forcing out pivotal scenes before you've even had caffeine. All the scrawled notes in the notebook you keep in your purse for when you just need to get an idea down, or make sure you remember one line of dialogue. And you think back on when it was just an idea and your characters didnt have names and the only plot you had was "they fall in love" and you had to figure out how they got there. Their story was up to you, and for a long time, you didnt know what to do with it. But you had to do something.

You think about all those things when you finish a book. But mostly, you just think about what's coming next.

I finished the first draft of The Rem(a)inder yesterday, and I am so excited for what comes next.
