Random Omori au
Hobby Swapped!
Basically the idea is having all of the omori characters (or at least the main cast) keep their identity of being who they are while having one of their biggest past times (hobbies( being switched with anyone in the group, and then trying to make the omori story still "work"
At least, somewhat, doesn't have to be a perfect recreation. Now this doesn't mean "Hero has Aubrey's hobbies therefore he also has Aubrey's anger issues and personality" given this isn't them swapping personalities, only hobbies.
The ones with each other's hobbies follows
Sunny has Heros! Cooking/baking!
Hero has Aubrey's! Delinquency and Churchgoing!
Aubrey has Kels! She is Dunking on people with sports and videogames!
Kel has Basils! And is a proud parent to many leafy children!
Basils has Maris! He can play the piano and make beautiful flower arrangements!
Maris has Sunny's! She can be fairly normal with a Violin!
I'll post what some of the non main cast are later I'm going to bed

I don't see many people talk about it, but… Curly witnessed all his crewmates' deaths.

Anya literally poisoned herself at his side.

Daisuke's last moments of life were in the next room down the hall.

Swansea was shot the second he opened the door to the infirmary.

Even Jimmy shot himself while Curly watched him in the cryo capsule. He saw them ALL.
ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS DIED IN FRONT OF YOUR EYES, AND YOU COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT JUST WATCH.
Gosh, I feel so bad for Curly…

Honestly I love this idea! Especially when Agent 8 is still learning the inklings language, it might be just the best way they thought of spending time with each other too! Given they don't really know how to talk at that point (and it might help Agent 8 to finally fight someone without the looming threat of death and or killing above both of them) it's a great idea!
I really love the idea of agent 3 and agent 8 being “sparring buddies”. Like, they’d meet each other PURELY to fight or talk about fighting. Not specifically gun fighting but like in martial arts. They don’t care about anything except just fighting each other and getting better at it. They either have same fighting styles and work on perfecting them with each other or they have different styles and think it’s fun to see who comes up on top this time. This idea has been on my mind for way too long…

This is such a great idea/headcanon!! I don't mind the whole "subspecies" thing, but it being just environment, training and diet is a smart explanation! I love rival octolings too, their sound design makes them sound way too cute for something I have to murder- they just seem like the embodiment of utter sass and I love them for it!

Of course! It was a well thought out theory afterall! And I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that :D!
You're completely right! I forgot about that! Having Callie work for the Octarians for a while did affect even the music that the Turquoise October made- I wonder what other impacts she had on octoling society! (Maybe Callie has octoling fans now- who knows!)
Wait i got another question for you
How are elite Octarians born ?
Elite Octarians are those Enemies who have a harder Ai than regular Octarians and have seaweed in their hair in the story mode
Like is it a some sort of mutation? cuz if I remember says that the seaweed is like implanted into their skulls i don't know I didn't look into splatoon lore back in the days
I get to bring out the artbooks on this one! I had a lot of fun flipping through them to find as much about the elite octolings as I can. From what I gathered it looks like the seaweed isn't implanted into their skulls, and is instead attatched to their goggles.
Tumblr media
It likely functions as a symbol of rank to show that they are stronger than a typical octoling. However I don't think that this is solely strength in fighting as we can see in Marina's chat room that Marina herself was an elite octoling, hence the seaweed.
Tumblr media
Marina's specialty wasn't in fighting, it was in tech. So chances are elite octos are simply defined as higher rakning octarians than most others.
However, I don't think that mutation theory is far off, I really like the idea and I think I can find some evidence to back it up.
Throughout all of the games elite octolings have black tentacles instead of red, like most octoling soldiers do. Even when fuzzy they're tentacles are significantly darker than others. However, when we look at a sanitized elite octoling we can see that the tips of their tentacles are a green color.
Tumblr media
The fact that there are even elite sanitized octolings is strange. If sanitization is meant to make them perfect soldiers, then how are some better than others? Unless they have some sort of phycical difference like a mutation.
Back to the tentacle thing, we can see Marina's tentacles are similar, being a very dark brown color with only the tips being teal. Even in her side order outfit where her tips have a galaxy color, the main color of her tentacles doesn't change.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course this could just be cosmetic because idols like the Squid Sisters and Pearl have tentacle tips that change color while the rest of their tentacles don't. I think for those three that is the case, but for Marina it's different.
Why would a sanitized octoling need cosmetics? Why would they care about how they look if they can't care about anything? Maybe it's because they can't change them back.
Here's my theory: In order for an octoling to earn a high rank in the Octarian Army, they have to undergo a mutation process that makes them stronger in the aspect that they are working in. For a soldier it would be physical ability, for an engineer it would be mental ability, etc. This mutation process has side effects, one being staining the octoling's tentacles, which prevents them from changing their color anywhere but the tips. This staining is permantent, which is why it can still be seen in sanitized octolings. Luckily, in inkling society this is a common trend among idols, so it is widely accepted.
Boom, case closed.
But wait. What about Acht?
Tumblr media
It is made very clear in Acht's portion of Marina's Dev Diaries that they did not care at all about advancing in the army. Even if they were offered a high ranking position, they would likely turn it down. So why are their tentacles discolored? And why are they more of a brown color than a black or dark brown?
Well I could just say that they wanted to look cool and leave it at that, but that's boring and kind of makes less sense. If discolored tentacles are associated with high ranking military leaders in the octarian army, why would Acht want to affiliate themself with them if they weren't one of them? And would they even be allowed to change the color of their tentacles?
We can clearly see that this color change is still present after their sanitization, but not fully. Their tentacles don't stay brown and instead shift to the purple at was on their tips. Now the tips of their tentacles are more of a red too.
Tumblr media
So what gives? Why can Acht's tentacles change but the elite octolings' can't? Because Acht wasn't an elite octoling.
Their sanitization was only partial, which is why they didn't have to wear a uniform and didn't have to fight as a soldier with the other sanitized octolings. So what if that wasn't the only thing that was partial?
Acht wrote in Marina's Dev Diaries that they were "always slacking off and cutting class. I got to know the inside of the instructor's office pretty well." My theory is that, in an attempt to get Acht to pay more attention and care more about being in the Octarian Army, their instructor had them undergo part of an elite octoling mutation, resulting in similar discoloration, just not as extreme. Their insctructor hoped that they would see how much stronger they had become and would want to earn a full mutation. Their plan backfired horribly. Instead of making Acht stronger in something like strength or intellegence, it just made their ability to make muic stronger. This only led them to cutting more classes so that they could focus on making music. This, of course, didn't end too well for them since their devotion to music was what caused them to be sanitized.
Acht's tentacles keep their slight discoloration through the sanitization, but the color itself changes slightly. Sanitization made their skin green, so why wouldn't it change their tentacles too? The consistent pattern of the discoloration is that the main parts of their tentacles are darker than the tips.
Keep in mind that most of this isn't canon and is just my theories. I had a lot of fun with this one, I hadn't really considered the potential lore of elite octolings before. I really like the mutation idea!
Thank you so much for the ask! I've also concluded that I am incapaple of making a post without bringing up Acht in some way lol.
Now I would like to leave you all with this abomination that I found in the Splatoon 1 artbook.

8 love that little smug...octoling? Inkling-?
Anywho! I genuinely love this take on elite octolings!!! It's so well thought out, I'm curious to know more about it! I'm curious to see if some octolings believe the same is true with inklings, like thinking Callie is an elite! (They wouldn't be all that necessarily wrong?? Given she is an idol/agennt)
I also personally imagined the dark of their tentacles having been "tattooed", cause- ink and such, but this mutation sounds like a fun idea as well!
Wait i got another question for you

Ooo~ what a way to spice up the game!! I genuinely enjoy it! I like to think that one of the characters you'd often times have to fight against/one of the main bosses that will trouble you until you get to their palette, being the parallel Canon! Making them a bigger obstacle and more important to the plot would make a lot of players happy
He idea of the final boss being different characters each time before you finally beat up Order is genuinely delightful! A bit hard on the developers, but c'mon! They where able to make octo expansion, they can do this too, I got faith on them XDDD
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Listen, Side Order is fun and great.
But...
what if... it was a little different? 👀
SIDE ORDER REWRITE THOUGHTS DOWN BELOW:
(please reblog!)
OKAY SO the main issue I have with side order is a lack of incentive for Agent 8 and the player to complete the spire with all the palettes. YES. LORE. and I like that a lot BUT fighting Smollusk everytime? Snore. Let's spice it up. We free the owner of the palette by fighting the grayscaled version of them. Each final boss is different, so we as the player have an incentive to see new boss and Agent 8 has to save their souls!!!
So in pic one, Deep Cut (at least Shiver and Frye) still haven't been freed, so they're spaced out. They still give the news, but their dialogue is different and more tired/boring. It'll be like this until the player frees their palettes.
Speaking of, apparently a lot of people got pulled in, right? Let's show them in the order plaza!!! Wouldn't it be creepy to just have grayscaled people wandering around- and the text boxes that usually contain players messages and art is just... blank? (or all replaced with the same message like "Order Will Prevail")
Some other notes:
On your first run, Marina is the final boss. You gotta rescue her!!! First phase it's Marina Agitando, then the second and third phases are Overlorder
Pearl stays a Drone until you complete her palette
As you complete palettes, less and less grayscaled people will be in the square. It makes it more empty, but that's only because you're saving people. But in contrast the lobby becomes more full of instruments and light (like in the actual game)
lmk what you think :)

Thank you so much! Genuinely love seeing what people think about my little ideas, let's be honest! Captain 3 is surrounded by incredibly important people, as just some...random inkling, are they truly worthy to be the captain? Why not Marie? Why not Callie? Agent 4 did what they did, why not them? Agent 3 also potentially killed Octarians, especially bad given the fact Octarians can live along with inklings, proven in splatoon 3, so- more guilt-
Agent 3/Captain 3 Mental State
Tumblr media
Do y'all ever just think about how Agent 3 might actually have a different kind of problem mentally- like, I see a lot of people always talking about the brainwashing and the fighting Octavio and the Octarians as their "flaw/trauma to over come" and dont get me wrong I love these flaws in their character! But I've just been thinking-
What about a hero complex? I mean, it might be typical, but Agent 3 has been working for the New Squidbeak Splatoon ever since they where about 14, they've been put in death situations over and over again- so what if they tie in their worth to their abilities? To what they can bring to the table-
Yet every couple of years, a new agent, a new person who did what they did all those years ago, but...better at times, Agent 4 (that one oc) saved the great zap fish, beat Octavio, and they did it while fighting Callie, and now Captain 3 has been- basically replaced by Neo 3, who fought Octavio, and a bear in literally space! Captain 3s achievements slowly pale more in comparison, and Agent 8 went through everything they went through in heels
Tumblr media
The rest of the squidbeak splatoon is similar, Callie and Marie are literally idols and the original agents of the New Squid beak splatoon, Marina is just Marina, smart with technology and good at musician and paved the way for octolings to enter inkling society, Pearl is practically a princess with the voice of a torpedo, deep cut isn't technically part of the squid beak splatoon, but they are also idols-
All to say...Captain 3 might feel the need to prove themselves, they did take up the spot of their beloved Gramps, and even if he is a bit of a nut job, he was a literal War Hero and legend, Captain 3 is in the shadow of so many great people- insecurity complex might be their new dearest friend!
Anyways, this was just a bit of a character study using nothing but my tired imagination- give me your thoughts and feed back please and thank yous!

Hello hi-
Tumblr media
So what's up with birds?
Hear me out, in splatoon, there are literally so many birds still- existing in the world, and I mean- that's cool and all, but I feel like there is too much of a opportunity being missed here!
First of all, the weird lore implications- that certain birds somehow managed to survive while all humanity is gone ish- frankly incredible, especially since it's been enough years for sea life to evolve into humanoids! (And I know that there is an explanation for how this was made so much faster) But it's still incredible to think that these birds have literally gone through no changes even after so many wars and centuries, like-
Nintendo could have evolved birds too-
Now, I'm not saying that they have to go the humanoid route! I'm just saying that I want to know how these birds survived the post apocalyptic apocalypse so well! Maybe by having birds evolve to be ocean dwellers, like penguins and sucks- so how are sparrows still alive?? And more importantly-
Why are they not some incredibly popular pet?? Like- there are no mammals, there are close to no reptiles from what I've observed, so sea life would only know birds, and wouldn't they be curious about the animals that have tamed the skies? Or even more so, be curious about specifically pigeons given the fact that- pigeons would be a very easy animal for them to domesticate/tame, cause they where already animals that we humans have tamed! Nintendo could have easily just added in Inklings or octolings keeping pigeons as pets! Or even better
Tumblr media
War
Humans have used pigeons as an war animal for the longest times! And given the fact this is a game very connected to war, wouldn't that be a very interesting idea? Having pigeons that are already in game as a animal that was used in war just makes sense! Especially given how octolings don't have a lot of electricity (given they have no zap fish) and are a very military based species, the idea of them still having pets that they use to send letters just makes me happy-
I understand the hype on making sea bunnies a type of pet that inkfish keep as pets- but c'mon! Make pigeons the equivalent of a dog in this world- or make a "crazy pigeon lady"-

I was looking for this post again! I love how detailed this is when it comes to the architecture! Good job!!
I know that Inkling societies mirror human ones because of plot reasons going back to Alterna, but I've really enjoyed seeing your 'convergent evolution' takes on the biology, so why not apply that same logic to something like, say, architecture? At a glance, sure, Inkopolis and the Splatlands look recognizable to us, but would for instance an inkling or octoling's home have a layout differently built for their unique needs and behavior?
Thank you! also yes this is a good point! I've been avoiding doing anything too outlandish with the architecture or much of any of the worldbuilding to be honest because we know very little about Splatoon architecture and... well, stuff like this, to begin with. And it's harder to try and change major things about the world itself than it is to work with alternative biology for a creature in my opinion; all we really know when it comes to architecture and city- and building design in Splatoon that it is very similar to those of humans, and a lot of the elements are based on modern day Japan. I doubt the developers are doing that much to differentiate the architecture from human buildings and stuff because granted it would be a ridiculous amount of thoughts and work to sculpt a society and buildings that accommodate like 500 different species MINIMUM.... there's some little things here and there, like the Giant Doorways in the Deepsea Metro, but then there's other things like the freaking escalator in Inkopolis Plaza that's literally the width of maybe 1 Inkling and no other species even fits in that. Hell, it's not even the width of TWO PEOPLE which is at least expected of escalators to my knowledge--- anyway....
my point being I don't like to make sweeping differences to human architecture when it comes to Splatoon, because whether I like it or not a LOT of their stuff is just human architecture a little bit to the left. But that doesn't mean you can't make any changes to it, and it also doesn't mean there aren't any changes, those changes just might not be as visible.
Some random things I've thought about: Modern housing in Inkadia has VERY strong windows. Glass in general is very strong in urban environments, especially buildings near Turf War areas for obvious reasons... you don't want people Super Jumping through your window nor your window blasted to smithereens by a Trizooka shot that missed.
In apartment buildings, if there are mail slots on the doors, there's a container on the other side. Prevents people from slinking into your house through the mail slot. Apparently this is a common thing to have in Japan? We just have mail slots or postboxes out in the yard or lobby.
Also to prevent people from slinking into your house: residential buildings have dense grates, nets or spikes in their ventilation shafts. In some older buildings and non-residentials, these might be missing. But without things like this, any Inkling (typically) can just fit straight through a pipe as long as their beak fits in it, so you would end up having guests you maybe don't want.
Quickly about apartments; they're actually a very popular form of living not just for cost-cutting and because there's a fuck ton of residents in Inkadia, but because inkfish are mostly very social and do better surrounded with lots of people living in close quarters. The two most popular types of apartments are single-person ones that are basically just a single-room hole, and bigger apartments that have several small rooms and a community area that are meant for a whole school of squid (usually a friend group) to live in. People who live in the single-person apartments typically just go home to sleep and maybe cook or something... unless you're an introverted squid, or not a squid at all, and just settle for very little when it comes to space.
Inklings ALWAYS have some type of direct heating in their houses, from space heaters to a kotatsu to heated blankets to sun lamps. This is because Inklings are mostly cold-blooded and become very sluggish if their body temperature falls too much (for example from lack of physical activity or from cold room temperature), so there's a focus on keeping one's living quarters comfortably warm. Most lamps marketed for inkfish are actually heat lamps to the point where finding a lamp that Doesn't Make The Room Hot if it's on for too long is kind of hard.
Inklings are pretty vulnerable to dry air due to their thin skin and dependence on humidity to keep them thoroughly hydrated. As a result, you'll find air humidifiers in like, every house. In some AC units, a humidifier function is included. From a human perspective, the average Inkling apartment feels warm and humid - but to them it feels just normal. Due to the relatively high humidity, it's pretty common for electrical outlets to have covers for when they're not in use.
It's common for Octarian homes to have "sleeping holes" or "dens" carved into the wall. These haven't really become trendy in Inkopolis yet, but they probably will. It's also quite common for inkfish homes to have stacked furniture and interior made in layers - because they can fit in very tight spaces in swim form, maze-like interiors are still fully usable to most inkfish. Though it's rarer to find people who actually want to deal with the clutter.
Most Inkopolis bathrooms have a combined shower-bath. Inkfish showers come with a shower head that only really lets mist through on the default setting. (You're expected to test this BEFORE you take your first shower and replace it if necessary because you don't want to get into the tub and then find out it's a normal cross-species shower head on fucking Jet Mode.) Bathtubs are mainly used for re-absorbing moisture and soaking in ink rather than cleaning (because inkfish don't do very well with actual baths).
Most flooring is specifically made to be ink-resistant and non-absorptive. The combined humidity of the air and the ink that inkfish naturally get everywhere would ruin wooden floors IMMEDIATELY.
Toilets usually have a flap or gate blocking the drain that flips open when it's flushed. There are too many historical cases of people falling into toilets and just fucking dying or going missing forever because it's difficult to get out. (Mostly kids, but also people who fell asleep or too far into thought and just slinked into there. The world is full of danger when you can fit into any gap.) also lots of people accidentally laying eggs there which for obvious reasons is REALLY BAD if there's nothing to catch those.
All modern apartment buildings are required to have elevators. I'm pretty sure this is also just a real-life requirement nowadays.
