Hear me out on this one. I am certain that there are countless people that were in my same boat. Raised by conservatives in a conservative county in a conservative state, taught by said conservatives that Republicans are good and Democrats are bad, and also having nothing occur to challenge those teachings. It literally wasn’t until I was almost 30 and started my Library Science degree that my mind opened up.

So maybe, just maybe, some of those people just haven’t been taught to use critical thinking skills yet. It’s not too late to change for the better. 🫶🏻

There is no more gentleness left in my heart for anyone on the fence about voting for Democrats. I have been through too many election cycles. There is nothing left to say that current events and recent history can't say better. I can only see your rejection or hesitation toward Democrats as an intellectual or moral weakness. The kindness that would let me pretend otherwise is long dead.

Sorry to get political again, but. I keep seeing posts on here talking about the “Western Left,” and then equating it with all of the things the MAGA cult and, frankly, Republicans are doing. Let me be very clear: the left, for the most part, is the antifa group, the ones for equality and peace. In America, it is the RIGHT, the conservatives, that are fucking everything up and plunging everyone into WWIII. So, uh, pass it on. Right = cheering on wars and cruelty and hatred & left = imperfect but infinitely kinder and favoring equality.

The other night husband and I were watching a documentary about the yeti where they were doing DNA analysis of samples of supposed yeti fur, and every one of them came back as bears.

Anyway, the next night we watched a thing about some pig man who is supposed to live in Vermont. People said it had claws and a pig nose but walked upright like a man. Now, I happen to know that sideshows used to shave bears and present them as pig men. So every piece of evidence they gave of this monster sounds to me like a bear with mange.

So now the running joke in our house is that everything is bears. Aliens? Bears. Loch Ness monster? Bear. Every cryptozoological mystery is just a very crafty bear.

Bears. They’re everywhere. Be wary. Anyone or anything could be a bear.

Buck is about to go insane watching his team be locked on the other side of the containment doors. Instead of acting rashly, he calls Eddie. Eddie is only too happy to book a last-minute flight to LA to make sure Buck doesn't do something incredibly stupid. Together, they work with Athena to track down the cure and save the rest of the team. They can only hope they'll be in time.

TBH, I’m still not entirely convinced Trump is as senile as he acts. His stupidity tends to occur at moments when very serious events are taking place, and the media fixates on his antics rather than on the bigger news story. Think about it. Kilmer Abrego Garcia is disappeared, Trump goes on a rant about someone he hates and people focus on Trump. SCOTUS is set to vote on whether birthright citizenship should stand, Trump goes off about his $300 million jet gifted by a country that funds terrorism (including 9/11), and predictably, the people focus on the latter issue.

So tell me, is he truly stupid, or secretly a manipulative genius taking several pages from Putin’s playbook?

I seem to be falling into two different hyperfixations at once right now. Wicked (more than before the movie came out; it’s basically my personality now), and Buck/Eddie from 9-1-1 (I did ship them before but ever since the contagion episodes, it’s become exponentially worse).

I’ve literally been hyperfixated on Harry Potter since childhood, and Stucky since…I can’t remember. At least 5 years now. I’m not losing the Stucky one, but Harry Potter is rapidly slipping down the list. Partly because JKR is a bitch and will rot in hell, but mostly for undefined reasons. Oh, neurodivergence, you are so wonderful and also obnoxious. What even is life.

I am so fucking sorry. One of my asshole senators is the one who introduced the bill (Mike Lee, UT). But if every accusation is really an admission, it makes me wonder what the fuck Mike Lee is doing that he needs to hide behind this proposed legislation. I seriously hate it here.

If you consume fanfic on ao3 and are 18+ and American I need you to lock in and call your senators saying you oppose a federal porn ban. This would effectively ban ao3 and being queer in public, among many other things, due to the intentionally vague language of the bill. I’m counting on queer tumblr and fandom tumblr to help me get the word out that you have to call your senators

I feel this in my bones. Back when I first started getting into fanfiction (I was in my 20s; before that I believed the lies purists spread about fanfic being an insult to the author), I was writing a fic about there being a fifth marauder (HP). No idea where it was gonna go, except that Sirius Black has been one of my favorite characters and I wanted to give him a little joy in his very hard life. Someone commented on the first chapter I posted that it was such a dumb self-insert fic with the lamest Mary Sue. I didn’t even know what that term was at the time, and after I looked it up, I deleted the fic from the internet and my computer files. I never went back to it.

Here’s the thing, though. Since then, I’ve learned that as authors (published or fanfic writers or those that write only for themselves), we put a little bit of ourselves into everything we write. It’s part of the experience, the journey. Fanfiction is a great way to practice writing character stuff because the world building is already done. It’s also fun to share the ideas and tropes with each other.

All of this to say: write what you want, for yourself. Share it if you want, or don’t. If you do share it, know that someone somewhere will resonate with what you wrote, however long down the road it takes for that person to find it. Your creativity, your art, should not be hidden just because some people say horrible things when they can be anonymous. Your people are out there, and you’ll find them, and then it won’t matter what the haters say, because the people whose opinions count the most will already be in your corner.

I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever
