I was picked winner by @buggy_tiposdoacaso, one of the 8 graphic design professionals who judged the SDG Redesign Challenge. In total 8 graphic designers were picked and won a Visual Identity course by @marcelokimuradesign. The goal was to design, in 62 hours, a new brand and icons for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável). SDGs (or ODSs in portuguese) were proposed by the @unitednations to be adopted by 2030 to make the world a better and more sustainable place. They range from a wide variety of subjects from peace to gender equality going through several different themes. The visual identity and icons currently in use by the UN were lacking a unified design language as well as an accessible color palette. On the other hand, the 17 icons, although for the major part well chosen, were too complex or had to many elements in them. The other problem were the colors. They had specified 17 unique colors which didn't have enough contrast between them nor were distinguishable by color blind people. The proposed visual identity and icons were designed to be inclusive, easy to read and have a unified design language and elements, making it easy to know where the icons were from even when the SDG logo wasn't around. The main and supporting typography are inclusive as well, both having extensive glyphs for several different character sets. The icon set now uses a single element for each subject, making it easier to differentiate, even without the numbers. Uma identidade visual e dezessete ícones exclusivos em menos de 72 horas. Esse foi o desafio proposto pelo @marcelokimuradesign na Semana da Identidade Visual deste ano. O "cliente"? A pasta de Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da ONU, uma lista de 17 diretivas a serem cumpridas total ou parcialmente até 2030. Um desafio e tanto, um projeto e tanto e a satisfação de ter chegado a um resultado que me agradou muito. É um desafio tão grande que somente conseguir entregar alguma coisa já seria satisfatório. Entregar uma identidade da qual posso me orgulhar então, melhor ainda. Pensei em desistir, quase não participei, empurrei ladeira acima e fui, forcei a barra, a ideia saiu e o resultado está aí. Se vou ganhar uma bolsa do ID Class? Não acredito que ganhe, mas ganhei mais um projeto pro portifólio e a certeza que mesmo na adversidade coisas boas podem fluir. This was the most fun I've ever had with a project. From the font selection to having Bubba @bubbz_da_bulldog be part of the logo, I smiled the whole way through. @canidroots reached out to @wearecopa and I was tasked with designing their logo, visual identity and food label. Canid Roots strives to make Raw Dog Food accessible and convenient for all dog owners. They believe that every dog deserves to live their best life. That their food should be as important as human nutrition. Their recipe couldn't be simpler: Chicken, Care and Carrots. And that's what inspired me to create the recipe icons and a vivid color palette to support the logo. I was commissioned to redesign @tobefonseca Studio signature logo. Tobias (Tobe/Toby) Fonseca is a brazilian designer and illustrator currently leading a team at his own studio which is responsible for market research, concept development, and illustration. They work for global clients such as Amazon, Threadless, GAP, Urban Outfitters, Hot Topic, Society6, and Shirt.Woot to name a few. To carry the essence of his signature logo through I've decided on a single weight custom script logo that has the fluidness of the original while improving readability and application.
