Ramble: Roleplay as a whole

I've been very on the fence in the idea of what I'd like to do with my blogs long-term, I'll be honest. I try not to put too much pressure on myself to return to them, but I flip back and forth in my motivation for RP because, at the moment, it's a touchy subject.

Roleplay has taken up a significant portion of my life, and I love the collaboration of writers. I love the community, I love the creativity... I love it all.

But as much as I do love it all, I sometimes worry that my priorities aren't in order because of the way I was raised.

I was raised in a household that very much centered around internet and media being the source of all and only entertainment. Bored? Go play with toys or get on the computer. Lonely? Go play with toys or get on the computer. Mad? Well... You get the idea.

And sure, that's a fine enough idea in the moment for a pair of parents that don't have the energy to handle an ADHD child. And still, it's a comforting practice that I like partaking in.

But I think I've come to learn lately that RP isn't all there is. Meaningful connections and experiences are out there, I've just been stuck in my house so long that I've chosen not to truly recognize it. It took some very painful experiences to reflect on parts of myself as a person, and I'm still struggling to cope with some of those experiences, but I think they're useful to my knowledge of the world around me.

I want to get out more. I want to be less afraid of the world, scary though it surely is. I want to understand new perspectives and explore all there is to explore.

This doesn't necessarily mean that I'm giving up on RP as a whole, but it does mean that my processing power for the amount of threads I've accumulated is significantly slower. It means that I want to focus on what I can do as a person that writes, rather than a writer.

Maybe this self-focus is what I've needed all along. I've been expressing my struggles and conflict within my Wattpad and while it may not be the best writing to someone in an outside perspective, it's incredibly meaningful to me and it feels like the truest writing I've ever written.

Perhaps I'll crave RP again soon. Maybe I'll encourage it on a different platform like Discord. Only time will tell. But for now, I would rather get to know the people I've written with over the years on a personal level. I want to connect with the people I plot with and understand the face behind the words. It's meaningful to me.

⚠️ IMPORTANT - HIATUS

Hey guys. After some reflection, I have decided that I will be taking a full and indefinite hiatus from ALL of my Tumblr blogs starting on February 24th, 2024.

I have been struggling with my mental health on and off for the past few months, and lately, Tumblr has been a primary source of stress. For now, I will be logging off of both Instagram and Tumblr and will not be logging back on for some time. I will not be sharing art, rp, or bat posts until I am ready to come back, and I will not be on any platform other than Discord. If you would like to reach out to me, my tag is fledermaus_art .

Given Matt's responses, I'm seriously tempted to leave tumblr or at least move until they make some serious changes. I'm going to test out cohost once my account is accepted, and I'll let everyone know what I think. Until then, consider all of my blogs on hiatus.

Hi! How do I make a promo post? I mean I know how to make it but I think there may be some people here who don't lol. What stuff should I include in it?

Hi! There's a lot of things you can do to make a promo post, but it's usually a matter of finding your own style and what fits you best. Sometimes, the promo can be made of one graphic, or multiple. Here's an example of the promo I use for my blog @ableplay:

As you can see, this is made up of a few different medias. It includes a music player, a graphic, a sort of tagline, a brief description of the blog's premise, and a reblog banner.

That's the way I style my own blogs for the most part, but from person to person this can vary wildly. Going to the actual post, you'll note that each underlined word is a hyperlink that leads to information about the blog. You could also just label the text as RULES and ABOUT. I don't have much advice other than this, unfortunately: The best way to develop your own promo is to look at the work of others and take inspiration! If you need stock images, unsplash and pixabay are excellent free resources.

Hi, everyone. Happy New Year! 🌻

I just wanted to take a moment to spread this message on all of my blogs, as I think it's important to share, even if it's a little long and rambly.

This past year of 2023 has been a very difficult one for me, but it has also been a year of great discovery and self-exploration.

As many of you already know, this year I lost my beloved friend, Catface, and we are all still feeling the fresh loss of her absence. She was a very special, very beautiful little cat, and I'm undoubtedly going to be mourning her departure for years to come, but I take comfort in the idea that she is no longer suffering with the ailments she had toward the end.

I have seen very tumultuous relationships within my family, and witnessed much drama. I have seen the separation and cutting of ties. I have taken this for what it is and accepted it as necessary.

I began my first official job in the start of 2023. A job that, despite all odds, I am still continuing to work, which has opened endless possibilities for what else I might be capable of.

Now, more than ever, I can say that I love myself, which is something I could never say before. I may forget this at many times, but overall, I love myself and I love my identity as a man, even if there are many around me who doubt its validity.

So here's to another year of staying alive.

Here's to another year of being glad I didn't give up when I was younger and struggling with trauma.

Here's to another year of creating and exploring and discovering and rping... To new projects. I'm already advancing in self-made works such as @ableplay and possibly an AU fic of The Lion King. Here's to whatever spontaneous project I dream up alongside these in the future.

Here's to the new addition to my colony, Trike the Tricolor Bat. I have decided that he's a trans man, just like me.

He was created by an INCREDIBLY talented Russian creator on Etsy known as Inna. I highly recommend their work, and I always will. Every plush they make is so lovingly hand-stitched and detailed!

Cheers to another year, and cheers to The Colony. By this time next year, I hope it'll be tons bigger.

i‘m new in the rp tumblr community (not new to tumblr itself though) and i really really appreciate all of your resources so tysm for taking the time to create all this <3

i do have a question: how do i get people to find & interact with my blog?

i‘d love to try out some of the infinite starter/rp memes ive seen everywhere on tumblr but i have no idea how i would even use them & how to get people to send/reply/etc. to me

i sent submissions on some of those rp-partner-search blogs on here as well because i had no idea where to start, but i don‘t seem to be lucky with that :[

i just wanna rp & maybe get to know some nice people in the rp community but i have no idea how, i know a lot of the etiquette stuff now but all that doesn‘t really matter if i‘m not actually interacting with anyone 😭

Hey there! I'm glad my blog has been a valuable resource to you.

It's definitely difficult starting out in the community, as there are many different structures and moving parts to learn. Hopefully, my advice here will be of some use too!

Looking at your blog, you have a really nice theme! It's very clear to read and quite beautiful. However, you may be having some trouble finding people to interact with because they may still be viewing you as a personal blog.

RP blogs differ from personals in a couple of different ways that I'll outline here.

(A.) Content and reblogs.

RP blogs are made up of largely tagged posts that fall into a few different categories. OOC posts, headcanons, threads, aesthetics, dash games, and more. These are almost always tagged accordingly and don't usually fall outside the main purpose of the blog. I see that your blog is for the most part empty and already following this standard, though you may want to integrate the tag system for easier navigation! I'd try to add a little bit more flavor to your blog by adding drabbles here and there as writing samples, or reblogging aesthetic/visage posts!

(B.) Rules and muse page.

One of the largest things that sets a personal apart from an rp blog is the way in which you set up your rules and muses. There is additional information on this post on how you might go about making a rules and muses page, but another way for beginners is to make a pinned post and put all information under a read more. It looks like you've already got a bio going, so here's how I personally would organize that as an example:

Obviously this is your blog and you have every right to make it how you'd like, but these are just my suggestions!

Other than that, it's a matter of being patient and reaching out to others. Not everyone will be down to rp, and that's okay. It takes time and patience, and largely an understanding of that concept. What you give, you get back. It can be discouraging when you can't find many to rp with, but it's important to remember that negativity truly will breed negativity here. Waiting for others to approach you won't always work, so you may need to ask and try to engage with others! Don't be afraid to say what you want!

I feel like people really do forget that relationships come in all different forms. You don't have to have sex with someone to be in love with them just as you don't have to not care about someone just because you're friends with benefits. Like this isn't me trying to be an asshole and spark mass debate or anything, this is just a hot take, but I feel like if all parties have a clear communication on what they want and they agree to it, they should be free to do whatever it is they want. There are queerplatonic relationships. There are exclusive FWB relationships. There are non-exclusive FWB relationships. The relationships themselves aren't the problem, it's the lack of communication and honesty that may or may not come with it. Other than that, people should be free to have what they want.

Y'all GOTTA stop making your trigger tags complicated, guys.

If someone doesn't want to see certain media, they should have the ability to block it out. When you make the tag a complex quote or put parentheses and spaces around it, it makes it difficult to filter it out. #trigger tw or #trigger cw is fine and works.

I am literally BEGGING y'all to be more mindful of the way you tag your posts. Literally just that.
