As part of his mission to protect, promote and maintain health, Dr. Clayton Lawrence, president and CEO of Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP) LLC, recently traveled to Berlin, Germany, to represent the United States in the 2019 Berlin Marathon. As part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, the Berlin race is considered to be one of six of the world’s largest and most renowned marathons for elite runners. This 118th marathon for the endurance athlete was an opportunity to strengthen his ongoing international outreach and to directly assist in the fundraising efforts of nonprofit children’s organization Smile Train.

It has been an exciting time for the LEAP scholar @kevinthomasakers, who spent a week in Santiago de Chile, representing the United States at the Concausa Continental Summit. The University of Massachusetts Lowell freshman was invited to attend as the co-founder of STEM for the Streets, which exposes historically disenfranchised and underserved children in Washington, D.C., to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) through hands-on experiments and engaging lesson plans with scientists, engineers and doctors. The summit provides an opportunity for students like Kevin to connect with other adolescents to create a network of youth-leading service projects. I am incredibly proud of this young scholar and credit his parents, Deb Greene and Patrick Akers, for raising an exemplary young leader. I stand with the individuals I call “heroes” – the hospital’s first responders. These individuals work closely with the emergency room physicians and staff and are on the front lines of providing critical care for patients who are in urgent situations, whether the victim of a traumatic car accident or suffering from an illness.
