Planetary Migration
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn .. You probably know what comes next, but .. what if I said Neptune, Uranus ?Â
The planets like the stars seem like clockwork, fixed in their specific orbits or places in our night sky, but have the planets in our solar system always been this way ?Â
Planets migrate, and the larger planets migrate a lot more, and there’s a lot of different reasons for it.Â
Other Stars
The stars in our sky are not fixed, most stars in our night sky are moving around the centre of the galaxy in a spur from one of the main arms, and while they generally follow a similar track, they do so at different speeds and different tracks. Some stars are heading in very different directions, Tau Ceti for example is heading at breakneck speed and is likely to leave the galactic plane before returning back in again.Â
All this jostling around means stars come close and then move away. A star that moves particularly close will disrupt the orbits, either pushing planets inwards, or pulling them outwards.Â
When stars are born, they are usually not alone, born in close knit clusters, and that closeness for many millions of years after the birth can drive a large amount of gravitational influence on the newly developing planetary bodies.

Orphaned Exoplanets
It is thought the galaxy is likely full of orphaned planets, kicked out of their system and left to wonder the galaxy without a host star, until that is, a star comes close enough to acquire it. Some believe the planet Uranus may have been such a planet, although it’s disputed. Additional planets would then disrupt all the other planets.Â

Resonance
Planets when they orbit pull and tug on each other, the larger the planet, the more it can do this. Jupiter is key in our solar system. So much so, a book written in the 1970s called “The Jupiter effect” predicted all kinds of disasters are a result of planetary alignment. The truth is, we wouldn’t be here without it, Jupiter has helped stabilise the planets orbits using resonance.Â
The moons of Jupiter are a good example of this, you can see how the moons orbit in a set pattern. This is because they have maximum impact on each other at their closest approach, and minimum at the furthest. A system such as this left to its own devices slowly conforms to a resonance pattern, and in doing so, it’s orbit becomes more stable held together by each in the system.
Chaotic Systems
In the early Solar System, just after the planets were born, the solar system was still full of gas and dust, and that leftover debris exerted it’s own gravitational pull and push, leading to planets moving about. One study from 2019 suggested Jupiter started out life 5 times further out and was pulled in by these bodies of gas, and over 700,000 years it finally found its location.
Another theory is that Neptune was nearer Saturn, but migrated out further than Uranus.Â

All in all, we don’t know for sure how our solar system looked when it was first created, we are only just beginning to understand some of the mechanisms involved, and the number of possible influences over the course of the last 4.5 billion years will never fully be known. What we can say for sure is, our Solar System wasn’t always like it is today, more so in the first 1 billion years of it’s life, and the heavy bombardment that occurred around that time is a mild hint to the chaos of those early days.
#esoteric knowledge suggests that we are affected by the positions of celestial bodies#if the planets have an affect on each other in such a way it would only make sense that we experience an affect to a lesser extent#planetary migration#solar system#history#planets#esoteric#metaphysics

rising signs
Aries Rising
With hyper-motivated Mars as your ruler, you're always on the move. You have so much energy; you can hardly find enough outlets to channel it! A true champion, you thrive when you challenge yourself through exercise or entrepreneurship. You're at your best when you're the boss, especially when that means you're working for yourself. Independence means everything to you, and there's nothing quite like the freedom that comes with writing your own checks.
Taurus Rising
Slow and steady might be your preferred pace, but that doesn't mean you're behind. Instead, you're methodical and deliberate in everything you do because you know quality takes time. With luxurious Venus as your ruler, you have great instincts for beauty and money, which is why so many Taurus-rising people work in art, fashion, or finance. It's all about knowing what things are worth—including your own worth—and you won't settle for less than the right value.
Gemini Rising
There's no one quite as clever as you, Gemini rising. Mercury, the planet of communication, rules you, which makes you an exceptional storyteller no matter the medium. You speak the language of pop culture fluently and often act as a tastemaker for your social circle, and who could blame you? You're as comfortable on the cutting edge as others are on their couches.
Cancer Rising
With the sensitive moon as your sign's ruler, you're innately tapped into the way other people feel. It's an amazing skill to have if you're in the caring professions, as so many Cancer risings are. Whether it's teaching, nursing, or even being a chef, you know exactly how to make those around you feel at ease. It's not enough for you to just go to work; at the end of the day, you've got to know you made a difference.
Leo Rising
There's no denying when a Leo rising walks into the room! You make everything a performance, whether it's giving a stellar presentation at work or throwing a surprise party for your best friend's birthday. You're comfortable with attention in a way that other people aspire to be, mostly because people always look to you to be the ringleader. Like the sun—your sign's ruler—they just gravitate to you. That's why you shine as much in the entertainment industry as you do in the executive suite.
Virgo Rising
Thanks to brainy Mercury as your sign's ruler, you're always looking for a smarter way to do things. You're nothing if not efficient, turning your affinity for data analysis into practical advice that can launch you far ahead of your competitors. Even better, you know how to smooth out even the most unruly details, a gift that makes you a skilled editor and researcher. Whether it's predicting upcoming fashion trends or crafting a scientific hypothesis, you always seem to know what's coming up next.
Libra Rising
With relationship planet Venus as your sign's ruler, all you need is love! Networking is your strong suit, and you have a knack for winning people over, no matter how different the two of you may be. Your secret? You see the beauty inside everyone, and it inspires them to do the same. It's an enviable skill to have no matter what your career trajectory. However, it works especially well in fields where building a strong following matters, like social media or politics.
Scorpio Rising
For the Scorpio rising, life is a mystery to be solved. That's because Pluto, your ruling planet, is always looking for the deeper meaning in things. You take nothing at face value and are your happiest when you're digging beneath the surface, taking on the detective role in whatever work you're doing. Your super-powered intuition and commanding presence make you a force to be reckoned with no matter what business you're in.
Sagittarius Rising
With expansive Jupiter as your sign's ruler, you're an explorer at heart. You love to make connections between disparate things and people, knitting together your experiences with different cultures, philosophies, and ideas into a unique and beautiful whole. It's what makes you such a skilled writer, teacher, and counselor. Your boundless optimism inspires those around you to see the world the way you do: as an adventure to be enjoyed.
Capricorn Rising
There's nobody quite as driven as you are, Capricorn rising! With responsible Saturn as your sign's ruler, doing whatever it takes to get things done is your default setting. You have a natural instinct for what's profitable and can parlay that into a successful business if you combine it with your penchant for hard work. But the one thing that truly sets you apart? It's your patience. You know deep down that good things come to those who wait and have seen that strategy pay off more times than you can count.
Aquarius Rising
Thanks to visionary Uranus as your sign's ruler, you're a one-person think tank. Always a step ahead of everyone else, you have an impressive gift for long-term planning that makes you an excellent futurist. Above all, you care deeply about the human condition and feel responsible for making the world a better place, which you do through humanitarian work or working in innovative fields like tech. Alternately, your natural rebellious streak could find its home in media or film.
Pisces Rising
With imaginative Neptune as your sign's ruler, you live your life like it's a fairy tale. A romantic at heart, you're most motivated by music, poetry, and love. You're deeply empathetic and see yourself as a healer, whether through medicine, psychology, or as someone who uses their art to ease the intensity of everyday life. There's a spiritual dimension to everything you do, and you never stop looking for the higher meaning in your experiences.

Tales of other Suns
We spend a lot of time in Astronomy wondering if we are alone in the Universe, and yet, the universe screams back at us with countless stars and galaxies full of stars. As a G2V star, our Sun is certainly nowhere near alone in the universe, it’s fairly common place actually, and the other sun’s fill our night sky too.Â
Where our star is slightly different though is that it doesn’t have a companion, many years back binary systems were totally discounted as being credible places to look for life, but not any more ! It’s fair to say a close binary pair isn’t going to be very conducive to life, but most binary couples are 100′s of AU apart, meaning planetary systems as rich and diverse as our own almost certainly will have formed there.Â
The closest G type star to our Sun is also one of the brightest stars in the Southern skies, Alpha Centauri A is almost identical to our own star, but sadly it’s close companion B orbits at it’s closest within the orbit of Jupiter to our Sun, almost certainly disrupting any but the closest planetary bodies for both stars.
Then there is Tau Ceti (G9V), older, less active, and more stable than our own Sun, with notable evidence of planetary systems, and once more, it has no companion, making it the closest G type singleton in the neighbourhood at just 11.9 light years.
Alsafi (Sigma Draconis) is 18.8 light years away, slightly smaller and dimmer than our Sun, with no companions, and no observation until recently of any planets. A recent long term observation however has picked up a 300 day cycle in the star’s wobble, which may be indicative of a planet, but remains unconfirmed.
Eta Cassiopeia A (Achird) as the name suggests is a binary system, 19.4 light years away from us. The two stars orbit at its closest is around 40AU, similar to that of Pluto from our Sun. The companion star is also much smaller, but it would create significant disruption to the outer parts of the system, probably sending in large amounts of debris, although it’s quite probable over time, such debris will probably have been exhausted and may potentially be more habitable than earlier thought. Despite this, no known planets have been detected.Â
82 Eridani, a high velocity star, one taking a slightly different and faster path around the Milky Way, one that will likely take it far out of the main disk. Such stars tend to be metal poor and much older. Like Tau Ceti a good number of planets have been spotted circling this star.
and finally, taking us out to 20 Light years from our Star, Delta Pavonis, a G8IV star, the IV part indicates it’s migrated from a V (main Sequence), so it has began the process of swelling up and becoming a red giant. That alone makes it a fascinating glimpse into the future of our own Solar System, as in 5 billion years time our own star will begin the same process.Â
Despite its age, the star shows higher than usual levels of Iron, a substance that is commonly associated with the death of super large stars, but for smaller stars, is assumed to be a possible indicator of planetary material that’s found its way into the star.Â
As a result, the star is thought highly likely to house planets, although non to date have been detected.
These are just a handful out to 20 light years, but there are hundreds of such interesting stars out to 100 light years of Earth, and 100 light years in a galaxy 107,500 light years side to side, gives you some idea of the sheer multitude of Sun like stars out there. How many have life remains an unanswerable question, but for our Sun, if it is alone, it’s in a very crowded room.
