I must not mock Gen Alpha. Mocking Gen Alpha is the mind killer. Mocking Gen Alpha is the little-death that brings total generational solidarity obliteration. I will engage with Gen Alpha lovingly. I will permit them to be cringe. And when they grow up I will turn my eye to their accomplishments. Where mocking has gone there will be nothing. Only generational solidarity remains

Okay listen I have another disability related thing that’s important!!
If you have any disabilities linked to tooth decay/erosion, through direct cause or secondary symptom, it is vital that you get one or both of the following items: Sensodyne toothpaste and enamel repair mouthwash
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This includes health conditions such as acid reflux, diabetes, thyroid conditions, fibromyalgia, chronic pain & mental illnesses such as depression that create poor hygiene routines, sensory issue disorders like autism and ADHD, and any health condition that causes frequent vomiting / increased stomach acid, including eating disorders and migraines.
All of these disabilities will erode the enamel of your teeth, not only opening you up to cavities but making it very easy to chip your teeth from such simple things as biting the wrong way on the tines of a fork. (I’ve chipped my teeth at least 4 times this way).
The toothpaste on the left here (sensodyne pronamel) is gentle on your teeth, won’t cause painful sensations from any extreme mint flavor, and will even protect your gums if they’re sensitive from any of these conditions.
The mouthwash on the right (Crest enamel repair) will, as it says, repair your enamel — which is marvelous, because the technology to repair your enamel at all is relatively very new to society! — but it is most importantly non-alcoholic. Meaning that it works well as a once-a-day rinse without any of the burning sensations of antiseptics that typically discourage people with sensory issues from taking care of their teeth.
I know remembering to do these things every day can feel like a lot when you’re sick and exhausted, but I promise a collective three minutes out of every day is going to save you an incredible amount of pain and money in the future. If your teeth are susceptible enough to rot, you can actually die from infection. And as they say, with how little insurance actually covers dental —
Not brushing your teeth??
In THIS economy???

"There's no hope for the future." And that's how they felt during the Atomic Age, during the World Wars, during the Enlightenment Revolutions, during thr plagues, during the Viking raids, during the fall of Rome.
Yet, we persisted.

Since the OP made their post unrebloggable (and blocked me. Both actions they are well in with their right to do)
I'm going to make my response it's own post because I think the point is important
-
As someone who is autistic and has BPD and CPTSD and loads of trauma yes you sometimes need to change how you interact with others to keep people around
When I was 13 I hit the few friends I had when I was angry
I had to change that in order to keep those friendships
When I was in my early 20s if I was losing an disagreement with my husband I would threaten to kill myself. My husband told me it hurt him and was cruel and manipulative behaviour, because it was.
So I worked hard to change that to keep my relationship
It's easy to say "I shouldn't have to change for others" and that's true to an extent. You shouldn't change your interests or passions or dim your light. And you should have space to be imperfect and flawed and not have to pretend your ugly bits aren't real. But if something you are doing it causing other people harm you kinda need to change that.
That's called "living in a society"
People adapt to each other and make space for each other in their lives. You adapt to them and they adapt to you
You start being more diligent about throwing away the empty toilet roll because it really bothers them. They start warning you before they run the blender because you hate loud noises
I stopped threatening to kill myself because I was mad I was losing an argument and my husband stopped being so vocally judgemental amount media he personally dislikes
There is a certain type of person who heard the phrase "your emotions are valid" and took that to mean "my emotional reactions and my behaviour are always objectively correct because my emotions are valid and if you have an emotional response or react to what I'm doing negatively then you are wrong and you can't be hurt because my emotions are valid"
And that's a recipe for disaster
Your emotions are valid to feel. They are how you feel and there are reasons you feel the way you do
However, your reactions and behaviour are something you can learn to control and can be irrational
We live in a society and we as people change each other as we interact and that isn't necessarily a bad thing

It is a testament to the artist, and also to the characterization in this book, that I knew exactly who these two characters were just by idly scrolling down my phone.
Orion’s politely horrified smile as he checks whether the latest Incident is going to be the one that sends El over the edge… El deciding to let humanity live to be stupid another day… utterly fantastic. The use of thick and thin lines here, El’s prickliness showing in her pointy elbows… gah, I live it.
Animated series when? Seriously these books would make a fantastic anime.

I’m about a third of the way though the third book in the scholomance series and I’ve been rotating these two at 350 degrees in my brain for two weeks

additional comment from the anon: this mostly applies to things like smut or nsfw art. I see a lot of blogs that are 18+ and I’ve always wondered if people actually listen to "minors dni (do not interact)" or if they just ignore them.

All the hands of the emperor stuff - and presumably all of the Nine Worlds stuff by extension - is so good at balancing a variety of tones. The hope and the loss, the seriousness and the ridiculousness. The humour is sharper and sweeter because it's timed so well.
But possibly my favourite is the one that comes up in Portrait of a Wide Seas Islander.
Imagine, for a moment, that you are an emperor (among other things, but we're trying not to think about them). You are the emperor. The formality around you is extreme, most people you deal with are baseline frightened of you, hardly anyone sees beyond your ceremonial front. You are desperate not to be like the previous emperor, your uncle. All of this is very painful and difficult.
And you get this secretary, and you adore him. He's like your favourite person. And so when his great-uncle turns up and says he needs to do this cultural rite of passage ceremony, you're SO onboard. You're like, yes, fantastic, you should do this, do you wanna do it in the throne room? you should do it in the throne room, let's go. This is all very powerful and emotional and sincere.
And after this is all over, you swing by your secretary's apartments when he's out. Just being a good host, y'know, dropping in on his great uncle, making conversation. And you make this almost idle remark, a quick curious question about an element of his personal history, just being courteous.
And this ninety year old man looks you dead in the eyes, and says, in essence, "oh yeah I fucked your uncle, and he was ~mediocre~."
just. iconic, ten out of ten, no notes. Buru Tovo I love you so much.
