A complete fracture of my left humerus after falling in a grassy field. Years of steroid use had left me with weak bones, and it snapped when I caught myself. Needed a plate and 7 screws to fix it. The scar is now 4 years old. At first I hated wearing short sleeves because of the stares I got, now I wear spaghetti straps with pride! Sometimes I make up crazy stories when people ask how I got it.

Where I've been VS where I am now. 21 months into healing. 22 years old and trying to re learn the confidence of wearing shorts in public. Burn that led to skin graft, which partly rejected (as seen in pic) but eventually healed after over a week in hospital, and twice weekly hospital visits for months. Pretty gnarly I seem to be covered in scars so this is submission 1

Due to a car crash, I sustained a break to my neck, clavicle and damage in the form of a dent to my skull, 3 surgeries later and here's where my scars at.

A lip scar from a dog bite. I was 7 and it was my best friends dog. I actually loved that Dalmation....guess the love wasn't mutual. No hard feelings Lucky ;)

This is what happens when a 2012 Nissan Versa meets a pine tree at ~70 mph.
My name is Hailey and I'm 22. A little over 4 months ago I was driving to work and fell asleep at the wheel. I shattered my ankle, patella and nose. my anti-eyebrow was ripped out and i have a small scar on top of my lip. The pictures of my foot and my knee were take today, the selfie is a few days old.
The facial scars were the hardest to get used to, as well as the fact that my nose is pretty different from the way it was before. But I'm dealing. I'm towards the end of my recovery and am more than anything just ready to get back to my life.

I have many more scars like this one on my hands, arms, and legs from working at a dog kennel and being bitten. But this one is my favorite because it looks like a tough little face on my hand. This particular bite actually wraps around my whole hand, from a very disgruntled dog that was getting his nails clipped. Just a reminder-when a dog (or any animal bites) it's most likely your own damn fault. I didn't secure his muzzle properly, and it resulted in a hospital trip and a permanent set of eyes :P

With regards to Self Harm Scars
We get more Self Harm submissions than anything else, so let's discuss why they're not being posted.
A user submitted an example with this attached to it:
My opinion on my scar is that it is beautiful. It shows a time where I was going through a lot and is now healed and fading. I dont see it has “romanticizing self-harm”, I see it as something that shows that I am stronger now.
And I understand how someone can feel this way, however Self Harm Scars are currently being romanticized by a large portion of Tumblr users, and posting such scars here would help perpetuate the aberrant behavior. Meaning is relative, and we have to take the safer road in this instance.

“Every time someone says we don’t need feminism anymore, things like this come to mind. Due to insufficient dowry this young girl’s husband lacerated her face with a razor blade.” (Gwalior - India) - ph. Adrian Fisk
