Every time I watch thunderbolts*, I’ll always just gaze at the credit art because HELLO…It’s stunning?? and such a unique way of telling the audience that these unlikely heroes are something else entirely different from the OG avengers but ultimately something -new- to root for.

I don’t know how many times I’m going to thank Jake Schreier for Yelena’s growth and development but it truly truly means so much to me 🥹🫶🏽.

the way yelena struggled with alcoholism and suicidal ideation bc she didn't remember the feeling of having a purpose of the one everyone relied on and who made everything bright...

AND THEN SHE FOUND THAT FEELING AGAIN BC THAT'S WHO SHE IS FOR BOB?!

like, that bathroom scene not shying away from showing her alcohol addiction is so grim but real for mcu. and the way the movie isn't afraid to show that yelena is suicidal.

AND IT'S SO REFRESHING FOR A FEMALE CHARACTER TO OUTGROW HER SHAME THROUGH SAVING HER SOULMATE!

Maybe it’s just me, but this fleeting scene/moment in the movie where Bob is 1. wearing tactical gear (his sweet and fragile nature being paired with a traditionally “masculine” uniform made me feral) and 2. smiling as he gets shoved in the back of the military utility vehicle, knowing that (in his mind, to be part of something bigger than him, even if it was just for a little while) made him feel more alive than he could have ever imagined before.

As someone who has the passion to one day become a film director. This picture means the world to me. Jake Schreier, a phenomenal film maker taking a bts pic of his cast members- *they all look so jazzed to be where they are as actors*-that bond, that on screen and off screen relationship is such a vital element of any film set.

Especially since I’ve been watching all the thunderbolt* interviews, just the way the cast talk about how they’ve felt so seen and so heard when Jake took in their thoughts and opinions, in terms of how they thought a change to a particular scene or adding little details that weren’t previously scripted would elevate the film and its premise even more.

Jake’s approach to this stellar cast is exactly the type of attitude you should have while taking on such an expansive and complex world and to then bring it to the forefront of the media, for the whole world to see and for existing marvel fans to enjoy and form such beautiful emotional attachments to !??

Truly, what an incredible honour.

I went into thunderbolts* knowing Jack shit about the plot and in it for my girly Yelena. Unbeknownst to me, they reveal the most autistic lookin’ brother with shaggy hair, and a demeanour that could only be described as “a new comfort character that hasn’t known a day of comfort in their life”.

……Thus a new hyper-fixation was born.

today i learned that yelena’s name means “bright/shining light” and if you think about how she’s really the beating heart of the thunderbolts* and how alexei says she lights up every room she walks into and how bob—whose alter ego is literally the physical manifestation of his own darkness—immediately latched on to her because for all her prickliness, she managed to make him feel safe and wanted and seen, i just….yeah i’m not okay

Went to go see Thunderbolts* in the theatres again (I saw it for the first time two days ago) and it made me realise how genuinely excited I am for this new phase of the MCU. It takes a complete pivot in a darker tone and a new hope is being created, we get more of an emotional connection with all of our new Avengers.

Thunderbolts* not only takes one of the biggest themes of second chances but tackles grief, anxiety, depression, loneliness, isolation, self harm, addiction and so much more.

Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. This team of talented industry professionals were able to expand on our beloved antihero’s and give them an emotional journey that interconnected them through and beyond bob’s past to not only create such humanity within established comic book characters but an enormous amount of empathy and compassion.

As a cinephile, this would instantaneously save ANY close-to-mediocre film :)

it’s really important to me when men put their heads in women’s laps. one of the most important things i can see on my tv. men laying their heads in women’s laps or men sitting and women standing and the man holds her around the middle and presses his face into her tummy as she hugs him around the shoulders. two very important poses. extremely soul igniting tableaux.
