Like EVEN BEFORE THE SHOW, j*hn was PISSED because he wanted to be normal and go to college!? And M*ry litteretly made a deal, knowing it could harm sam?

Then his girlfriend dies the same way his mother does, so he leaves his whole damn life behind, hunting for J*hn's bitch ass, and is dealing with nightmares and litteretly seeing her, then finds out he has freaking powers and is apart of azazel's sick plan? And his own brother had to tell him that he might have to KILL him?

Then dean dies, dean sells his soul and he looses his brother, during this he meets a manipulative (but hot) demon, who convinces him to drink demon blood to kill demons (and while going theiugh withdrawl has HORRIBLE pain and hallucinations), getting him addicted, all for her to stab her in the back after months of him believing she was helping? Then he's blamed for starting the apocalypse? And he litteretly preyed every day just for the first angel he meets (like I love cas but season 4 cas pmo) to tell him he's the boy with the demon blood?

So he leaves, stops hunting but can't seem to get away from it, and lucifer POSES AS HIS DEAD GIRLFRIEND AND MANIPULATES HIM. ALL FOR HIM TO SAY YES AND BE TRAPPED IN THE CAGE WITH MICHAEL AND LUCIFER FOR 180 YEARS(if I'm not mistaken), and litteretly gets sa'd by lucifer THE WHOLE TIME( not to mention the MULTIPLE other times he got groped and sa'd in the show and the writers just joked it off (especially with becky)).

But he comes back! WITH NO SOUL. So when his soul does get shoved back in, and the wall breaks he goes through EVEN MORE HALLUCINATIONS OF LUCIFER(THE MAN WHO SA'D HIM FOR 180 YEARS)

Then, sam finally has a small break for once. Dean disappeared in purgatory, and he found a nice girl (I lowkey didn't like the storyline but whatever), and then she found out her fiance/husband (lowkey forgot) came back, so obviously she chooses him, but when dean comes back HES MAD BECAUSE HE DIDNT LOOK FOR HIM EVEN THO THEY HAD A AGREEMENT TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE IF THE OTHER DIED (no hate to dean bc I love him too)

He does trials that almost kill him and when he was READY TO DIE, dean tricked him into saying yes to having a backstabbing angel possess him. He deals with his brother wanting to kill him as a demon, and eventually after dean dies he lives out his life still grieving over dean (not to mention that fuckass wig)

Like the amount of bodily autonomy he DOESNT have throughout his WHOLE life is actually insane. And the writers never actually have sam explain how he feels, not really. And people say Sam's whiney. I WONDER WHY. Like I love sam sm☹️

Guys, I love donnie darko sm. I love how complicated it is and how I lowkey understand every single aspect of it. Like everything means something, and ties in. I was so obsessed with this movie I made a guy who i really liked watch it, and then I explained it in detail to him (letting out that inner freak😉)

But this is me explaing the plot ig so enjoy😏

The beginning-the occurrence of the tangent universe

Donnie gets awoken one night by a man in a bunny costume named Frank (the manipulated dead). He ends up outside when Frank tells him the world will end in 28 days, 06 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds without much other info. The next morning, he wakes up in a golf course, and when walking back to his home, he discovers a jet engine fell in his room, which would have killed him if he were in there. This is how the tangent universe begins.

He believes Frank saved him. They don't know where the jet engine (which is the artifact (the first sign a tangent universe occured)) came from. Something like this can cause the fabrics of the fourth dimension to corrupt. He was supossed to die, that was what was chosen for him because every living thing follows along a set path, it was set in stone, so the fact that he didnt follow his destiny casused a tangent universe, that is only stable for a few weeks (in this case 28 days), from the time he sees frank (I mean as soon as the words fell out of his mouth the universe was now a ticking time bomb). Donnie was chosen as the living receiver to save his primary universe. If donnie doesn't travel back in time, returning the artifact before the black hole folds on itself, it will destroy the primary universe.

The people - the manipulated dead and living

The next 28 days (and so on so forth what have you) is donnie slowly realizing what happened and what he has to do. With the help of the people around him, (Dr Thurman, his teachers, family, etc (the manipulated living)) and frank and Gretchen (the manipulated dead) he puts the pieces together(the only one who may be aware of the tanget universe is frank and robberta sparrow(she assumeably already lived through a tangent universe which is how she wrote the book)). He talks to his teacher about time travel and gets Roberta sparrows book about time travel, he tells his therapist what he discovers and she gives some sort of emotional assurance, his family and gretchen (and honestly probably people like charita, friends and teachers) help give him a reason to want to do it, and save them. Everyone is important to the story in some way, and at the end of it all, he's content with knowing he's gonna die because he's saving people he cares about. Which is why nearing the end of the movie he makes ammends with his family, and assures them it's all gonna be okay, and he's gonna be okay.

Time travel

The first he questions about time travel is because Frank brought it up to him. He gets curious and asks his science teacher about it, which led him to get "the philosophy of time travel" by robberta sparrow (grandma death). He puts 2 and 2 together and realizes frank wants him to read the book, because he brought up time travel. The next thing that occurs that brings him closer to the truth is when he, his dad, his dad's friend, and his friend (the dad's friend is the friends dad(I think)) he sees these weird water tube looking things coming out of their chest, basically leading the to what they're supposed to do, which proves everything is already decided, every living thing follows along a set path. Everything he does, and the people around him do was already chosen. This water tube(or channel) is what allows him to go back in time in the first place. He's starting to realize that stuff the book says may be going on in his time, which is why he can see the things he does. As days go by, it's getting closer and closer to the end. When his sister gets into Harvard, he decides to throw a party while his parents are out of town, which is about a day before the world ends. During the party, after gretchen shows up, he realizes there's not much time (12 hours a think) and panics. He takes gretchen and his two friends to Grandma's deaths house to get answers before times up. While they're there, they get jumped. Gretchen couldn't move, which caused the car to run her over and kill her (BIGGEST PLOT TWJST EVER BY THE WAY). The man who gets out of the car is none other than human frank. Donnie gets pissed and shoots him in the eye (foreshadowing in the theater, btw), killing him (sense gretchen and frank die in the tangent universe that makes them the manipulated dead). He carries greatches dead body (jeez that's depressing as shit) to the family car and in the morning after seeing the black hole he leaves to do what he was destined to do. So he sits on the hood of his car and he's able to pull the jet engine off (usuing his weird chosen one super powers (i still dont fully understand it either so bare with me))of coincidentally his mom and sisters plane, to send back to the primary universe through the water channel. And then he's back in his bed (he's back in the primary universe, meaning he was successful). We see the beginning again, but this time, he lets the engine kill him. The people he's touched somehow in his life feel the effects of what he did but dont know what happened. Some stay asleep. Some wake up upset or confused (love that montage). In the morning, everything goes on how it should have if he didn't somehow wake up and leave his house

Important underlying themes

1. Love and fear

Donnie yelling at miss farmer about the range of human emotions is ironic because most of what he does is based off of love or fear. He burns the pervs house and floods the school out of fear that he will piss frank off (but also for other reasons ill bring up later). He acts on negative emotions out of fear. Fear that the world will end, fear of dying alone, etc. On the other side, he went after gretchin after those dudes made jokes about her parents, assures his family he's gonna be okay, and even you know, saves his universe out of love.

2. God/religion

His therapist, science teacher I think sometimes miss farmer, bring up god as a way to try and get donnie to cope with what's happening (since they're the manipulated living they don't know what's going on, or what they say has meaning outside of trying to give donnie explanation(that's my theory about it anyways)) but he doesn't belive in god (as his therapist said he's agnostic (doesn't belive in God, but doesn't deny the possibility of some higher being)) even more furthering the science explanation for time travel

3. The fear dying alone

The movie talks about Donnie's fear of dying alone which is was one reason he was scared of the thought of the tangent universe and what he has to do to save it. But eventually he comes to be content with it, and thst he's not really dying alone because he has lots of people who care about him, so saving them by sacrificing himself doesn't scare him anymore, he even finds it funny

4. The English books

The first book they read "the desterctors" (which is a short story) follows kids who break into old misserys house which is similar to what kids did to grandma death, but the kids destroy her house. They even find a mattress full of money, but they burn it. Donnie points out how it's ironic that they burn they money. He says that they just wanna see what happens when they tear the world apart, which is also kinda what he thinks. He doesn't flood the school because he hates it or burns Cunninghams house because he hates him. He does it because he wants to see what happens when he acts on the destructive behaviors that Frank nudges him twords

After Ms. Farmer got the destructors banned, they read/watched "Watership down" about bunnies in search of a new home, and one of them has visions of bad things happening to them. When the teacher asks of the other bunnies believe him, donnie asks why they would care, then goes on a rant about how their deaths are meaningless because bunnies don't have human emotion which gretchin argues back that the author cares so they care, as thst the bunnies are supossed to represent them. For gretchen, it was almost her saying he missed the point of needing to go back in time to save the universe, which eventually he snaps out of

Team dean, jess, or logan?

I'm bored, so I'm gonna tell yall what I like and don't like about these three♡

So, starting with Dean, I truly believe they ruined his character to make jess look better. Dean liked reading and was totally understanding! He really loved rory, and I think he was the right person at the time.

A lot of issues are his anger issues and how needy he was, but he was litteretly watching the girl he loved fall for another guy, and there wasn't anything he could do about it, plus he was a teen and teens don't handle things the best. I don't blame him for getting jealous and mad over jess. He was actively seeking out to rory, and she was dragging Dean along in season three, especially. Things like the three month anniversary and the Harvard thing were very shitty tho, and rory had every right to be upset about it. Other than that, he didn't have like a lot of big slip ups. Rory said she felt safe with him and that he was a good boyfriend.

But don't get me started on seasons four and five. Cheating on Lindsey was absolutely wrong, and rory knew she was sleeping with a married man. And even when they were dating, it wasn't the same, and they both knew that. They didn't fit in eachothers lives anymore

I have mixed feelings on dean(clearly)

Jess is like the opposite of dean for me. I hate him in the beginning, but he gets better in later seasons (in his few appearances)

I hate how jess was the reason Dean got so pissed, yet everyone loved jess and hated Dean. I will say they had cute moments, but overall, he was not a good boyfriend for rory. He left stars hallow without telling rory multiple times, went after her tho she was with dean, THE BEDROOM SCENE. like the stuff he did compared to dean was way more serious. I think him crashing her car was an accident, and that's not a reason I don't like him, but he was also HORRIBLE at communication, but he did care, even if he didn't always show it.

I definitely prefer later seasons and YITL jess. He was more mature, and he still loved her, but he knew their time was gone.

Logan was rorys first adult relationship, and it was so entertaining. Logan did have his moments, tho. The bridesmaids, him being recklace, but he called her out on her wrongs, while also letting her be independent, and making her own choices. He could be wild, reckless, and spontaneous, but he could be serious when needed. I really love their relationship before they dated too, especially with the life and death brigade. She took things so seriously, and he was just a jackass and it was funny to watch.

He did steal a boat with her, but again, he was letting her be independent and make her own choices. He told her it wasn't a good idea and she didn't listen. And I think when she dropped out, he shouldn't have been as enthusiastic, but he was letting her be independent. I think a lot of the problems that happened with rory wasn't a lot to do with him besides those few incidents. And he got more mature in later seasons too.

But I hate their storyline in YITL.

I also like the idea that lorelai sees Christopher in dean, herself in jess, and per parents in logan, because it explains why she sees them the way she does.
