Finally have something to post. (Mini Rant)

I really can’t stand this trope. Do I even need to explain why it’s so harmful? Interracial relationships, between white and POC characters/people can absolutely be romantic and meaningful. But what bothers me is when Black/Brown characters are portrayed as uncivilized, with grayish skin (🙄), beast-like features, and overall unpleasant traits, while the white character is depicted as the complete opposite intelligent, gentle, and "civilized." It’s insulting. It sends the message that the POC character needs to be “tamed” or “taught” how to function in society, usually by a white protagonist.. 🧐 Feels real insulting.

Watching the Barbie movie with men is actually the worst experience ever.​ Can men comprehend how making misogynistic jokes to women while watching a movie about how misogyny hurts women is bad. I’m watching this and trying not to cry while thinking about the attention brought to sexual aggression I’ve experienced from just walking down the street and this dude is just going “haha ken” and anytime barbie does something its “boo give me more ken”. I entirely understand your points and how you viewed her story and this is simply me providing how I took it and see it and am obviously not attempting to discredit anyones experiences.

I am also someone who processes things the same way Cabby does, I have an auditory processing disorder, memory issues, dyscalculia, and various other problems that affect how I think and remember things. My notes app is full to the brim with over 57,000 individual notes of things I need to do throughout the day, facts about my friends, and so on. This won’t be a very long discussion for me, but I never saw Cabbys storyline as ableist in the way I see people say it is. Yes she experienced ableism, but Cabby destroying the Bow file never felt like Cabby throwing part of herself away. Seeing the end of II S2 it’s still heavily implied Cabby still uses her files even if we don’t see them. I mean she uses her prize to make an entire library so she definitely still keeps information as well even if she were to use them less and still keeps her mannerisms of knowing a lot about others. Cabby states she has memory issues and that can’t really just be fixed so it’s to be assumed she is in-fact still using files.

Cabby destroying the file for Bow always felt more symbolic for Bot than it did for Cabby to me. I have always taken the scene as Cabby understanding that these are entirely different people and that the information she has for Bow is irrelevant and has become very incorrect now that she’s been writing Bot’s information in the same file. Assuming I were in the same situation I would also throw the file out and start over to get facts for both people from them instead of observing on the sidelines since thats what Cabby’s entire arc was about. The file was thrown out to make room for a new and improved one that didn’t feel invasive in her mind that will help make both her and Bot feel more comfortable.

I certainly think Bot asking Cabby to not immediately write things down is a bit hard for her, but I’m still very certain they would work through that and become comfortable with it now that they know Cabby is listening intently to them rather than just writing things down and thinking about them later. That’s a problem I faced very often where I would write so much down I hardly thought about what or why I was writing and that ultimately damaged my writing in total. I have since become more aware of what I do and intend to write more caring things and put more thought into them, and I believe that is the same for Cabby.

I have related to both Bot and Cabby’s stories and I think clearly they aren’t perfect, but as time goes on they will still grow as characters. AE is aware of the issues others had with it and will be more mindful of it, but even now they still have a good jumping off point! It’s a tiny bit hard for me to word things considering I am watching a movie as I write, but hopefully my experience makes some sense.
