hating tiktok is not a "back in my day" type thing. tiktok is objectively affecting other social media platforms in detrimental ways. ux elements are being stripped and everything has to have a fucking short video clips function. it's rampant homogenization and it's a problem
Fuck the tiktok version of coquette that’s all sanitised and pristine. Coquette is messy. It’s being cute while still being a mess. It’s crunchy hair from swimming in the ocean, grass stains on your knees, scuffed up shoes from running and climbing, chipped nail polish. It’s bright colours and organised clutter, using what you already have and making it work. It’s makeup melting off your face in the hot sun, but not caring because you’re having fun. It’s not meant to be perfect and neat and clean, it’s meant to be real.
It’s about living for yourself, being yourself. Not an ‘aesthetic’ version of yourself for the internet.
I remember a tiktok I saw (bc of course it was) about how 13’s (and 15 but I’m more focused on the former) sonic ruined sonic screwdrivers and just…
Didn’t 12 have a guitar as his sonic for a bit? I also think my mom has mentioned sunglasses?? Like I personally think 13’s sonic is really cool and I understand not liking it but to say it ruined Sonics? It feels disingenuous (although, most critique I see of 13 does, so)
George: *using the scene where Arya gives water to the men in the cadges as a continuation of the theme of mercy/justice vs vengeance and how vengeance is not good*
Someone in my comments: She sympathies with a rapist just because he’s northern so she’s anti feminist!
just saw a post with almost 20k notes blaming The Jews™️ for the potential tiktok ban. i'm just... so tired.
did they just... forget how fucking scummy that app is? yk like, how it collects a bunch of personal data and its algorithms are designed to send you down rabbit holes and radicalise you?
people should be celebrating in the streets that tiktok is getting banned, if they really miss short brainrotting videos so much just use YouTube shorts, I wish we could claim this ban as our achievement tbh.
I really don’t understand the complaints that the 13th doctor is always happy. Like I’ve seen season 11, 12 and a bit of 13 three times, and there are plenty of times she isn’t, especially in season 12 and 13 but even as early as s11 ep2 she gets hopeless when the tardis doesn’t appear, in ep3 she is upset that they have to sit by and not help Rosa, in ep 4 dhe gets annoyed at the ceo,
in 8 she gets upset at the king and his sexism, and upset at the “witch” killings, in 9 she gets pissed off at the kid’s dad, in 10 she’s angry at the icy dude, and resolution (which I’ll admit I’ve only watched twice because it’s so boring) she’s not too happy about Ryan’s dad, and obviously not happy about the dalek
I definitely think she could’ve had more moments of anger and frustration and anxiety and should’ve gotten at least one scene to be absolute terrifying to a villain (preferably one who fucked with yaz) but I’m not really upset at how she’s portrayed. I don’t like misery for misery’s sake, and don’t think she would’ve benefited from being angry or upset unnecessarily.
And that’s not even mentioning season 12 and 13 where she very much so IS angry and upset, she tells a guy that people like him are why she questions spending energy on the human race, yells at what I take to be time gods (idk if that’s actually what they are) to let her have more of her past, she’s shitty to yaz, and all of it -minus being shitty to yaz- is honestly fair
I think this became rambley, wouldn’t be the first time
Every time I hit a depressive episode, I remind myself, "Things could be worse. At least you're not on TikTok." Because, unironically, the era of my life when I stooped as low as to use TikTok was genuinely the worst I've ever felt. Setting myself free from being sucked in by short-format videos for hours, being force-fed doomsday politics, was genuinely the best decision I've ever made, and I'd be hard-pressed to ever go back to that.
