Ian McShane with parents Harry and Irene, circa 1949. 

Ian has described his mum, Irene McShane, nee Cowley, as quintessentially English, having been born and lived her entire life in the North of England, but as having some Spanish blood, which Ian has said must explain his own temperament.  When Ian goes back to the Manchester area for visits he can often be seen squiring his mum about, grocery shopping, etc.  Last I heard, his dad Harry, born in 1920, is still living, but is not in the best of health.

Harry McShane, born in Scotland, was a professional footballer who played for various Scottish and English clubs throughout the 40’s and 50’s, eventually becoming part of Matt Busby’s team at Manchester United.  He maintained close ties with Manchester United and worked for them in various and sundry positions after he retired.  Ian’s vocal talents were inherited from his dad, who always had a beautiful speaking voice. I have photos of the tiny Harry at the Old Trafford football pitch running the lotto barrel 10-15 years ago.

Here are a few words from Ian about Harry: “He was a classic Scottish left winger. [He was only] five-foot-seven, and he could run down the field at 90 miles an hour. Later he was a tannoy [public address] announcer for Manchester United at Old Trafford. He used to announce the teams and play the records. "When he went on tour in America with United in 1952, he brought back a photo of him posing with Ava Gardner, who I later made a film with in 1970 (Tam Lin). He also brought me a pair of Roy Rogers little guns, and when I started on Deadwood, my mum dug out the guns and sent them to me. "He made about £40 a week back in the ‘50s. And you might get a win bonus of something like £40.”

can we talk about the fact that they are 17 in the first spider-man, and mj is talking about being in love and having to navigate very serious relationships

and they're approximately 19 in the second, mj is already getting married? i understand that it does happen in real life, some people start families at 19, but i don't like it

sm1 mj feels like a young girl trying to be much older than she is, which does track with the abusive household, but the romantic side of the storyline just feels written for characters at least 10, maybe 15 years older
