Thoughts/review

The movie strange magic would’ve been so much better if the plot had room to breathe around the nonstop songs.

Like a couple of the songs work but it being a musical really fucked it up in some aspects - it would’ve been interesting if only the fairies sung but all the ‘evil’ goblin creatures didn’t (though I appreciate them being given rock songs)

These are my initial impressions and being in my 20s don’t think I’m the target audience.

I do admire the character designs! Feels slightly Winx/y2k

Honestly just let Marianne draw blood /be more of a badass!!!

Mondo has made several X-Men Animated Series/X-Men '97 characters as 1/6th scale figures, and this is obviously one of my favorites. (I love a lot of them.) But you guys know that I'm an absolute sucker for Kurt Wagner.

He looks so good! The suit, the tail, the articulation, the faces!

I actually like these two more than the '97 head. I think it's the hair. I like these hairstyles more. Especially the second one because of the slight curl going on; I love when Nightcrawler has curly hair.

That being said... holy smokes all three are hot!

I like that he comes with a different tail that can hold a sword. It kind of reminds me of the Marvel Select (Diamond Select) Mr. Fantastic who comes with an alternate body that you can stick a figure in the middle of to make it look like he's coiled around them.

I flat out don't like the recent retcon concerning Nightcrawler's parentage, because it makes the details of his conception unnecessarily contrived, and it also throws Professor X under the bus, because the woman who threw her infant son off a cliff can't be the bad guy in this scenario, it has to be the guy in the wheelchair. Besides that however, the most annoying thing is all the arguments made by people defending the retcon while also making it clear they only have an entry level understanding of X-Men mythos:

"At least his father isn't a demon anymore" News Flash: Azazel is still his biological father, the only thing that changed was whose womb Kurt gestated in. Also Azazel isn't a demon, he's a mutant whose mutation makes him look like a demon, bet you think that Warren Worthington III is an actual angel too.

"Being the child of a lesbian couple forces Kurt to confront his prejudices as a catholic" Nightcrawler has never been depicted as homophobic, and if you think that him being catholic automatically means his is then your the one who needs to confront their prejudices.

"It was Chris Claremont's original plan for the comic that Mystique and Destiny were Nightcrawler's parents" and Nightcrawler's original creator, Dave Cockrum, wanted his father to be Nightmare; so if we're going to be honoring the creator's original intent, I think you should be prepared for that. Besides, Chris Claremont also wanted to have Shadowcat bombarded with cosmic rays, which would rewrite her DNA, turning her into the biological daughter of Storm and Black Panther, after which she'd change her name to "Shadow Panther", not everything he comes up with needs to go to print.

Unrelated anon but I remember Nightcrawler's Inferno (those were good times) and how Margali went after him not only for Stefan's death but also because she thought he was responsible for the crimes Stefan committed which got a few expansions as part of the backstory years later : To sum those up, Margali thought Nightcrawler killed his brother... And a bunch of children he at first kidnapped from their homes

So for Margali to be character assassinated to the extent of unironically turning her into the very kind of person she was accusing Nightcrawler of being (Child-kidnapper+ Family killer + Betrayer + Murderer) in her very first X-Men story who wanted him to face justice for them even if it's by her hand is a bunch of ballooney

The "Margali kept Nightcrawler away from his parents this entire time as she took him from them and would have never given him back" take the retcon has also makes very little sense since Margali let Nightcrawler have friends at every village and town the circus stopped by, let him use a different name that's unrelated to hers in every way possibly connected to his biological family, let him become the big star of said circus as a child known for being a fantastic acrobat who wears a realistic demon costume and can appear and disappear, let him have posters and merch at his image sold at every village, let him leave the circus to find himself, took a pretty long time to even find Nightcrawler after Stefan's death since he was in America back then, never hid Nightcrawler's appearance under a spell, let him stay with the X-Men away from her, allowed him to consider them as much of a family as the Szardos, ... Margali sounds like the most incompetent and counterproductive child kidnapper ever fr

I had a friend describe things as "It's like Margali did her very best to make Nightcrawler very easy to find if any of his parents were looking for him, at least his mother since she knew Azazel wouldn't bother. The fact they never did means they were either dead or didn't care/want him". A child kidnapper wouldn't do any of the things she did because all of that is how you make a specific someone easy to locate and contact.

Mystique not finding Nightcrawler after being retconned into now wanting him this bad and having looked for him everywhere to no avail only works if she never tried, was very stupid, which says something since she's the real Sherlock Holmes, and very incompetent : Nightcrawler had posters of his mutant face in plenty of towns across Europe advertising him for his appearance.... If we include the freak show part of his backstory, he was literally known across Europe as a real demon boy before he even reached his teenage years.

And yes, the retcon of making Margalia this evil woman reeks racism towards a roma character. Mystique could have found Kurt any time...she didn't want to, same for Destiny who had kids and grandkids.

I hate his retcon and even more how people celebrate this retcon that hurt the characters. "But they are gay so...who cares?"

Again, if they wanted a lesbian couple so badly...why it had to be Mystique and Raven? ok, evil people can love fine...but why make this convoluted retcon that helps no one?
