Wille is never still. Simon has realised this after a year of fidgety homework dates, a long leg bouncing next to his in class, and restless nights where Wille reaches for him in his sleep, brow furrowed in concern, making sure he’s still there.

Today they’re lying on the grass by the lake, and Wille’s fiddling. With what, Simon’s not really sure. He’s stretched out on his back, arms behind his head, eyes closed to the mid spring sunshine. They’re probably supposed to be somewhere, but it’s hard to care.

Wille’s head rests on his shoulder, body tucked in close to Simon’s side. Soon he finds the strings on Simon’s hoodie and starts playing, tracing shapes and patterns on Simon’s chest with the knotted ends, idly doodling without ink.

Simon can feel him smiling through the soft fabric. He cracks open an eye, squinting down at Wille’s face.

Wille nuzzles him. One arm slides up to rest around his waist, “I made you a heart.”
