Would people be interested if I were to scan the villager cards from the board game? The art is SO pretty and I can’t find it anywhere online, I’d be happy to get pics/scan them in if anyone wants. There’s all sorts of other cards/tokens too, could probably get pics of those in groups if anyone cares.

Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful Feast of the Winter Star. Here’s to the new year.

The Magnates
So called because I couldn’t just title this “Misc.” Getting back into the groove.
   The Governor - Many Things
Mayor Lewis always put so much emphasis on the Luau, due to the Governor’s presence. It made sense, given how much he dictated, but the townspeople always found it gave a stressful air to the otherwise fun event. With all the chaos happening throughout town, most advocated to cancel the Luau, but Lewis wouldn’t hear of it. Those afflicted with changes tried to keep out of sight of the Governor (easy, given his poor eyesight and lack of glasses), all except the farmer, who had to be introduced to him. He didn’t pay any heed to their strange, hulking form, and when asked, he simply said that it would help out with the heavy work. Lewis looked like he was about to explode when the Governor tasted the potluck and ended up with fur, but the man just chuckled merrily. No one has heard any complaints yet, but his wife did send a letter to the farmer to thank them, since her husband has never been more agreeable.
   Grandpa - Ghost
It was pretty shocking when he first showed up, but most people are used to it by now. Once part of the valley, always part of the valley, according to him. No one really expected this to last past his death, but hey, Evelyn and Lewis don’t seem upset one bit.
   Morris - Vampire
Morris has risen through the ranks of Joja through his hard work, persistence, and grit. Of course, it’s a lot easier to work hard when you revel in suffering, you don’t need to sleep, and promotions are a cinch when you can just suck the blood of any of your competitors (he claims he’s only done it once). Leave it to a company like Joja to make capitalist vampires a literal and metaphorical reality. He doesn’t seem to have many vampiric friends, though; they’re here to cause suffering for humanity, not ruin them entirely. Plus he’s totally a sellout.
Another short one; there should be some longer posts coming up. As soon as I can come up with stuff for a few of the moms and dads I’ll get those out. Also I may be a little bitter about Morris, judging by the current state of the world, but I’m not against giving him personality outside of being a Joja tyrant.
Until next time!
tl;dr The Governor changes into a new thing every summer at the Luau, and doesn’t mind. Grandpa’s spirit is tied to the valley, so he can’t leave. Morris is a vampire.

Denizens of Calico Desert
The desert is home to two kinds of people: those with the endurance to outlast the heat, and those with something to hide. The shining pink walls of the Oasis greet visitors as the bus stops on its way through. The wares there are less expensive than one might assume; some claim that whatever goes on in the back room has something to do with it.
I’ll save the rest of the details on the setting itself for another time; this post is focused on the people of the desert. Short but not unimportant post today as this has one of my favorite characters! Take a wild guess at which one. :V
  Bouncer - Kangaroo
Bossman was known for his eccentricities; frankly, he wasn’t even the weirdest boss the bouncer had ever had. Really, though, was this whole getup necessary? “To fit in with the locals,” Qi had said. The bouncer’s foot tapped on the ground, the only sign of their displeasure. What kind of locals did this place even have, if being a kangaroo made them fit in?
  Mr. Qi - ???
No one is sure where he’s gone. The farmer expected to find him at the end of a valley-wide scavenger hunt, but nope; the casino patrons said he hadn’t been seen in days. A cryptic note leading towards the Skull Mine might be the only hint anyone has of his whereabouts…
  Sandy - Sand Dragon
The bones gleamed in the sun, scorched clean by dry heat. Everyone who passed through saw the skeleton; it was basically a heritage site. No one claimed it was a dragon, but everyone knew it. The majestic sweep of the head couldn’t be anything else. Sandy did her due diligence in taking care of it; as one of the only stationary denizens of the desert, she thought of it as something of a duty. One should be careful when interacting with anything draconic, though, as their spirits tend to linger long beyond what’s reasonable. A prick on the sharp tooth of a skull can have ill consequences for the person involved, as Sandy very quickly found out. Fortunately, despite being the new incarnation of an ancient draconic spirit, she can still fit in the doors of the Oasis. The voices in her head do get her a bit snappy sometimes, though.
Short list, but an important one! Frankly if I design any characters from this AU in a fully visual sense, Sandy is going to be one of them. As a dragon myself I’m quite fond of my version of her! Also reminder that dragons are literally just canon in Stardew, not enough people talk about that.
tl;dr The Bouncer is a kangaroo (har har). Mr. Qi is currently unknown. Sandy is a reincarnated humanoid desert dragon.

The Small Folk
AKA I didn’t want to have too many categories so I put all the short people together. This one is going to be Vincent, Jas, Dwarf, and Krobus. Not including Leo because I’ll put him with the other Ginger Island characters.
   Dwarf
Dwarf is an odd case where I’m actually just changing part of his base design, rather than inflicting some sort of transformation on him. He’s got a star-nosed mole nose now! Also, instead of being trapped behind a rock, he digs around in the mines using a gigantic pair of mechanical claws he built. No more sitting around idly all day, there’s work to be done!
   Jas - Moonlight Jelly
She’d always wanted to see one of the rare green jellies that Marnie talked about. So, when the Dance of the Moonlight Jellies rolled around and her aunt said that she could go out on the pier herself, Jas made a mad dash out to the edge to try and spot one. No one could stop the rocketing little girl from tumbling right off the edge. Willy helped fish her out, and Marnie gave her quite the scolding. Something about the water must have done something to her, though; the little girl’s skin is always giving off a ghostly green light, just barely visible, and her clothes ripple as if they’re underwater, even when there’s no wind.
   Krobus - Buggy
Living in a sewer was a lot nicer than you might think, really. It got a bit lonely, but all things considered it really wasn’t a bad place to be. The only thing that Krobus didn’t like was the tunnels full of strange bugs and tepid water. The bugs didn’t attack them, but they had to beat back the nests to make sure they didn’t infest and clog up the rest of the sewer. They call it the mutant bug lair for a reason, though; you might notice a flicker of translucent wings behind Krobus’s back every once in a while, and when they eat a pair of mandibles poke out of the shadow person’s mouth.
   Vincent - Bug King
As soon as Miss Penny opened up the arcane section of the library, Vincent was trying to sneak into it. Books were usually boring, but dangerous and forbidden books? Now THAT was interesting. He had to get in there. Finally, he managed to slip in when the gargoyle wasn’t watching and immediately dashed along the shelves, watching for a specific set of numbers. He didn’t understand the dewey decimal system, but he did know that 595.7 meant books with pictures of bugs in them. He pulled one or two at random as soon as he found the number on the shelf and started reading. Getting grounded and having extra homework was totally worth it, after that. Not only could he talk to the bugs, they actually listened to him now! The antennae were kinda weird, and the shell was awkward sometimes, but mostly he wasn’t mad. Plus, the bugs would help him clean the mud off his shoes when he got home so that Mom wouldn’t get mad, so it was all worth it.
Shorter one today! A few of these are some of the oldest ideas for this AU, so it’s fun to share them. Not sure what’s coming next, but stay tuned!
tl;dr Dwarf has a slight design change to be more like a star-nosed mole, but that’s all. Jas is a magical girl jellyfish. Krobus is buggy (wings and mandibles). Vincent is also buggy, and has control over bugs.

A Note On Gender And Sexuality In Starfall
Starfall Valley is a break from the canon of Stardew. In the game, every marriage candidate is, ostensibly, queer to some degree.
Great news: Everyone Is Still Queer
In other words, in most cases, I won’t be explicitly stating most of the characters’ genders or sexualities! At the very least not until things start getting more written out. My brain is far too small at the moment to decide on things like that, so apologies in advance. In the meantime, feel free to speculate and form any headcanons you want of the cast, though!
Basically, I just wanted to post this because of how the lore posts have been sorted so far (bachelors & bachelorettes). It’s mostly so that I can keep things straight in my brain and not miss a character; it may not reflect every individual’s actual gender status within this AU. The sorting may change in the future but the current status of the project is “get everything out of my brain” so I need to make it easy or I’ll never get it done. We’ll see what the future holds!

The Bachelors
Took me a while to get these all nailed down, still unsure on a few of them. Not my strongest ideas overall but I’m making it work. One or two may get retconned in the future; the aquatic concentration is especially high with this group. I gotta settle for now to meet my deadline, though. So without further ado, here they are!
  Alex - Shark Dude
Weights clanged against the ground, the last reps finished for the day. Alex wiped the sweat from his brow, heaving. He’d gotten a new personal best every day for the past week; he was on fire. Maybe working out this much wasn’t too healthy, but hey, it took his mind off things. George had gotten a cold earlier in the spring, and… well, lifting was meditative. Plus, this new aqua-protein diet thing seemed to be working out great. Nothing like fresh salmon. He may be looking a little gray around the gills, but that was supposed to be normal. The fins, maybe less so, but he wasn’t about to stop now. Maaaybe if the tail got big enough to throw off his lifts.
  Elliot - Merman
Inspiration. Such a fickle thing. He thought the Gem Sea would provide, but she was a cruel mistress, and the only thing he received from her was the swirling beauty of shells. So when the local farmer announced a trip out to one of the nearby Fern Islands, he leapt on the opportunity to sail into the great unknown! An adventure surely would draw out the inspiration he truly desired! Or maybe he’d just end up vacationing in a slightly damper and windier shack than the one back in the valley. Truly, what a predicament he’d landed himself in! Despair, dismay, it was all quite dramatic, truly, just ask him. As soon as he’d given up hope, walking across a rainy beach, a sight struck him: a mermaid, resting upon a stone out in the sea. Inspiration! He dove into the sea, fighting the pounding surf to reach it! He didn’t really expect to make it that far; he also didn’t expect the fish tail he ended up with. But hey, inspiration is inspiration, and his new opera is coming along quite well.
  Harvey - Bio-Clockwork Kirin
Ever the optimist, Harvey hasn’t quite given up on his dreams of flight, despite their impossibility. He’s managed to get a real pilot on his radio once or twice, even. It must have been aging poorly, though; whenever he tuned it past a specific point, there was always a faint… click. So strange. He couldn’t find the source, even when he tried for hours on end, and the radio itself seemed perfectly fine. But it felt so loud, sometimes, so close. If only he could just find the right frequency…No one’s quite sure what happened, least of all him, but Harvey emerged from his room days later, frazzled, tormented, quite a bit more equine, and letting off a faint tick of his own. Despite the somewhat horrific appearance, he’s got just as much medical expertise as before, it seems. Just don’t listen to his heartbeat for too long.
  Sam - Satyr
Sam knew good music when he heard it, and this was good music. Ephemeral, unknowable; an absolute bop. He had to find whoever was playing it. Was that a… pan flute? What a weird choice, but it worked! He hadn’t really planned what to do when he found the musician, but he also hadn’t planned on ending up at the base of one of the town’s cliffs with the tide coming in, so a lot of things had gone wrong, really. He got himself back up eventually, after removing his shoes and finding some goat hooves; those things could stand on anything. His mom was gonna be furious about all the mud he tracked inside, though.
  Sebastian - Just Kinda Fishy
The best frogs came out during spring rainstorms. Those were the ones who sang with a glee that Sebastian couldn’t understand, but loved to hear. His family acted like he was uninterested in science, like his dad and Maru; that was entirely untrue. He just wasn’t interested in their science. Frogs were way cooler. So when he saw just about the biggest frog ever chasing after some tadpoles, he knew he had to catch and identify it. Mist is a tricky force, though, and that “frog” turned out to be the biggest fish ever. Also, that log he wanted to jump on didn’t exist, so there was that. Robin let out quite the shriek when her son flopped through the door with fins and slime, but seeing as there wasn’t much to do at that point, she just sent him off to his room with some desiccants. He still likes to hang out with the frogs, but now he gets to lead the chorus, too. He and Alex seem to be getting along quite well, these days.
  Shane - Raptor
Blue chickens. No one had quite seen anything like it. They were fierce, protective, sharp-beaked, but around Shane all the birds became loving little balls of fluff. He just had a way with them. Even their eggs carried a slight blue tinge, with an extra savoury tang in an omelette. One of his prized birds seemed to have gotten her claws on a weird, speckled egg; Shane left it for a while, but kept a close eye on her, unsure if it was a cuckoo or not. Fortunately for him, it wasn’t; unfortunately for him, it was a dinosaur egg instead, and during the… ranch incident, it made quite a mess of things. He came out unscathed, but now that he’s lower on the evolutionary ladder than his flock, they never let him hear the end of it. At the end of the day, he’s the one with the feed, though, so they know better than to tug at his feathers or scratch up his scales.
And there’s the bachelors! Again, not quite sure on these, but it’ll do. Next up I’ll probably do the kids; after that will be the rest of the adults, split into two or three posts. At that point I’ll see about making a master post and get that pinned with links to everything. Until next time!
tl;dr Alex is an unapologetically furry anthro shark. Elliot is a merman (and first thus far to have changed on Ginger Island). Harvey is a partially-clockwork kirin. Sam is a satyr. Sebastian is just kinda fishy. Also quite slimy. Not his fault. Shane is a mix of bird-raptor and dinosaur-raptor.

The Bachelorettes
I’ll be doing overviews of groups of the villagers at a time. My goal is to eventually get a post up for each individual, along with a short blurb or story; got a long way to go for that, though. First two groups will be the marriage candidates, so let’s get right into it! I’ll put a tl;dr at the bottom of each post. Also the tags for these are going to be a mess because I’m going to try to properly tag everything (since I eventually want to make a masterpost with links and stuff, let’s hope I get that far).
  Abigail - Demon
Interested in the occult, Abigail has more than just a oujia board, but she kept it all well hidden. Despite her mother’s warnings, she continued to practice late into the night. Of course, in a place so rife with magic, one is bound to attract attention after that much ritual. Abigail found herself face to face with a demon and threats of death, destruction, and eternal damnation. Not one to be intimidated, she reminded the demon that she was in charge. Unfortunately, due to the power of the being and the ritual she’d used, deals had to be made, and Abigail is quite a bit more infernal now. Perhaps she should have listened to Caroline, but... well, we’ll get to that.
  Emily - Dryad
Emily has always been considered a strange one, even by her sister, Haley, but she’s never an unwelcome face. She may be a bit more liberal than the rest of the town, but no one has ever held issue with that (save for maybe George and Jodi). Lifestyles do tend to catch up to you, though. She picked up a particularly strong strain of “relaxation herbs” from the traveling merchant, and next time Haley found her, she was more connected to nature than ever, having been granted the form of a dryad. Chill as ever, Emily keeps up her job at the saloon, much to the delight of the townsfolk who reap the benefits of her extensive herbal knowledge in their drinks. Her new horns are made of sage, and one is frequently smoking, providing a calming effect for those around her (except for Sam, who can’t get near her during the summer due to his allergies).
  Haley - Hulder (modified)
At the behest of her sister, Haley has been begrudgingly branching out and trying to form connections with the other townsfolk. Surprisingly, she starts to hang out around Marnie, Jas, and Shane, and especially around Marnie’s cattle herd. Emily’s change was made easier on her due to her sister’s innate calming abilities; however, the proximity to so much magical energy from Emily, combined with being present at the... incident at the ranch, has left her quite changed. If you saw her from the front, you might mistake her for part of the herd, but look at her back and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between Haley and a mossy boulder!
(Unfortunately I can’t find much about hulders, although I’m planning on doing more research. Haley is a bit of a different take on them; imagine a humanoid cow, with her whole back covered in mosses and plant growth.)
  Leah - Ursataur
Leah knows everything that goes on in Cindersap Forest. Living just outside of its boughs, that’s where she spends her time, admiring the trees and searching for wood she can work with. It’s also, unfortunately for her, where she sources most of her food. After the farmer opened up a path to the deep woods, she began exploring on her own, where the flora grow wild among marble ruins and secluded ponds, and the fauna even wilder. A berry salad made from deep woods forage, while delicious, has quite the effect on the one who dared to steal from the deep woods. Leah ended up stuck in her cottage for almost two full days after growing too large to fit through the door, far more ursine than when she’d fallen asleep, and with an extra pair of legs to boot. Fortunately, she kept her hands, and bear claws are shockingly good at carving fine details, so she’s not too upset.
  Maru - Cyborg
“My greatest invention.” That’s what she’s been claiming to be working on for ages, now. Demetrius and Robin have no clue what it might be; even that robot in her room only seems to be part of it. Maru is quite the intelligent person, everyone can see that, but she’s been so secretive about it all that no one knows what to think... until she calls everyone to the town square to reveal her greatest invention ever: herself. Fortunately, after the ensuing fiasco, things calmed down, but Robin might need some help from the other moms in town to figure out how to be a good parent to her half-robot daughter.
  Penny - Gargoyle
The museum always felt like her real home. The fireplace burned all winter, and the books were constant companions. Penny didn’t have to feel alone there; she didn’t get into arguments, or clean up after anyone (except for Vincent and Jas, but that was different). For all the time she spent there, you’d think she would have noticed the small door at the back of the library. Considering it opened into a space far too large to fit into the floor plan of the building, though, perhaps there was a reason she hadn’t seen it. The thought was exciting—she spent so much time engrossed in story, maybe this was her chance to make it real. One should never let yourself get too carried away, however, or you might just find yourself trespassing forbidden ground. Picking up the wrong book, Penny was struck with a petrifying curse that twisted her form into something awful; but with the arcane section opened, it needed a guardian, too, and who better than her? Penny spends even more time around the museum these days; during rainstorms, you can see her perched above the entryway, wings blocking the rain as she reads.
And those are the bachelorettes! Feels good to get a first post written out. Expect more soon! Some may be blank where I don’t yet have good ideas (this is all a wip after all). Shouldn’t be toooo many of those though.
tl;dr Abigail summoned a demon and got turned into one. Emily blazed it too hard and became a dryad. Haley is a mossy cow due to overlapping magical exposure. Leah forged too deep in the woods and ended up an ursataur (with her upper body ursine as well). Maru made herself into a cyborg. Penny opened an ancient section of the library and was cursed to be its guardian gargoyle.

“A strange sound was heard during the night…”
Stardew Valley. An emerald paradise, caressed by the Gem Sea and nestled into a sleepy corner of the Ferngill Republic. The soil is rich, blessed by mineral-rich meteorites from long ago. Pelican Town rests in the crook of the mountain and sea, insulated from the world.
“There’s something fleshy bobbing around in the fluid…”
A newcomer moves to town, following the footsteps of their grandfather years ago. Something is off about them, but they are welcomed to the town nonetheless, even with their strange ability to know what every single person in town likes. Things settle back into their quiet rhythm.
“Part of the glass is shattered.”
The farmer is awoken with a start. Another gift from the stars has arrived on their farm, and it’s about to cause a whole lot of trouble…
      Welcome to Starfall Valley!
Starfall Valley is a project I’ve had brewing for quite a while now. Stardew is one of my favorite games, and on a recent playthrough, I got a Strange Capsule on my farm—a rare event that releases a strange alien into the town. I wondered: what might happen if that alien were a little less passive? What if it broke out of its capsule to search for a new host, instead? And what if a particular farmer happened to be around at the time? That’s where Starfall begins. Pelican Town just got a lot weirder.
This AU is a combination of my own personal interests and musings about the world of Stardew. Imagine it as something akin to Monster Falls (for anyone who’s heard of that). I’ll be going through and writing up as much as I can about how the denizens of the valley and beyond react to their new reality.
A few notes: I’ll most likely end up changing characters around from their canon appearances (let’s face it, Stardew is not the most diverse game out there). I will happily take ideas/suggestions on this part. This includes Ginger Island. People far more intelligent than I have already expressed why this particular section of the game needs some serious work; I will do my best to ensure that I don’t fall into the same kind of neo-colonial mess that the game does. I am not an expert, unfortunately, so I may end up unsuccessful in that regard. I’m working on it!
Also, this is my first time actually running any sort of blog! It will probably be pretty simple and quite messy. It’s an experiment; we’ll see how it goes!
Lastly, this AU contains a lot of themes of transformation, magic, and probably many furries. It will also be very queer.
With all that out of the way, welcome once more. I hope you enjoy your stay. And do keep out of the back room of the library.
