I got that same message, word for word, from Pluto about one of my fics that I wrote a couple of years ago. I haven't posted any fics or new chapters since then!

Scam alert

In recent weeks, I've received a number of PMs to my FFN with flattering messages and offers to 'collaborate' to create fan art. I had never interacted with these suppose readers before, but several things raised my suspicions:

Three different users making the same offer within a short span of time

Generic language about how much they liked my story (mentioning a chapter but not a specific scene or moment or character or anything concrete at all)

Accounts with no bookmarks for stories, let alone in the fandom I write for

Directions to follow them outside of FFN on sites like Discord and Instagram, rather than continuing the conversation on FFN where we were already connected

Poor grammar (not always a sign of a scammer, mind you; I have a lot of readers whose first language is not English, and I love hearing from them. But scammers are notoriously bad at English grammar)

I looked up the name of one of the users, which took me to this Reddit thread. Apparently, this has been going on for some months now, but it boils down to supposed artists who want to create fan art for money (rather missing the point of fanworks, imho). Those who have fallen for it get something AI generated in return.

All I'm saying is this: beware of unspecific flattery and vague offers to provide a service. Real fans of your work won't ask for a commission to create art for it. Fandom is a special place. We fic writers don't write for money. Fic artists don't art for money. This is a commercial-free space, and we're all better and happier for it.

So take care of yourselves out there! Be safe, be creative, be kind.

I'm confused on what the genre is supposed to be for "When the Phone Rings" kdrama. The teaser and trailer gave mystery/thriller vibes but so far the episodes had some rom com moments lol.
