Hello all, my name is Stephanie Taylor. I have an undergraduate B.A. degree in International Business from Truman State and I am currently a student in Full Sail University’s M.S. Entertainment Business program. I have started this Tumblr as a way to keep track of my mastery journey throughout the year and to keep track of my goals. Think of it as a professional dream board, if you will. Upon graduation, I intend to move to a new city and pursue a career in the Marketing/Management side of the Entertainment Industry.

During this month’s course, we used two main books to learn more about Leadership. The first was Robert Greene’s “The 48 Laws of Power.” The second book was John C. Maxwell’s “Developing the Leader Within You.” Of the two books, I connected more to Robert Greene’s book.
At the beginning of the course our instructor explained the main differences between the two leadership styles within the book and I really thought I would connect more to Maxwell’s book but I was surprised how much I really, really enjoyed Greene’s book. After reflecting for a bit, I realized I absolutely loved the structure and straightforwardness of Greene’s leadership style guide.
With laws such as “Learn to Keep People Dependent on You” and “Plan All the Way to the End,” it was obvious to me I would be using Greene’s laws both in my professional and personal life. Professionally I could approach any job with humility, caution, and efficiency if I abided by laws such as law number thirty, “Make Your Accomplishments Seem Effortless” and law nine, “Win Through Your Actions, Never Through Argument.” These laws would aid me in absorbing lessons as I enter the entertainment business industry. If I entered an entry-level position without humility, as Greene’s first law suggests I do, I am sure my superiors would not be too keen to keep me around.
My most important lesson that I have learned and hope to pass to you is that no one has all the answers. Apart from the great tips I learned from Greene’s book, the main takeaway is that there is no simple guide to being a leader. Instead, we must absorb as much advice as we can and put our personal twist on it. For example, in my personal life, some of these laws, such as number twenty “Do Not Commit to Anyone” could be a little drastic for me. However, I believe to be a good leader, one must practice what they preach in real life as well as in their professional life. I could however see myself abiding by the general idea of laws like number twenty-five “Re-Create Yourself” that simply encourage me to be the best that I can be.
These books have been a nice base building block in my journey to mastery and leadership and I really hope you check them out for yourselves. There is no limit to which industry you could learn from these for. If you’re looking to share your art, you could use Greene’s twenty-eighth law “Enter Action with Boldness” to get your foot in the door. If you’re starting a business, follow Greene’s twenty-ninth law “Plan All the Way to the End.” If you’re having a child you could also use that law! The choices of how you could use these laws are as endless as I hope your dreams are!
