Submissions are due in 3 days!!!!
I actually got my sh!t together and am opening submissions for Transvestia Issue 18: Body Mods as Transformation!
This issue’s theme was given to me by a customer at the Rare Books Fair back in February! I’m super excited to finally do this theme as it’s also pretty personal to me. Body mods have been so important to me feeling at home in my trans body, and I have so many friends who feel similarly.
You can find the submission form linked here: link, and below - it also goes into more detail about the types of submissions accepted! The deadline for submissions is May 31st, 2025.
I’m aiming to publish by July 1st, 2025, but we’ll see how that goes with my track record lol
Please share around with your trans body modded zine and artist and writer and sculptor and musician friends!!

people assume that being physically disabled makes you more empathetic to the pain of others, but that’s not always the case.
for me, it feels unfair when others are in pain and don’t feel the need to hide that fact, because i have internalized the idea that i’m not allowed to talk about my own. it annoys me that, while most are typically understanding if a non disabled person doesn’t operate at their full capacity due to sickness or injury, disabled people are expected to function normally as if that isn’t our every day. as much as i want to feel solidarity towards a suffering person, it feels impossible not to be envious when their illness or ailment is temporary, but i will never, ever get a break from mine.
for obvious reasons i would never say any of directly to someone, because my pain doesn’t make theirs any less valid or real. still, i can’t help but feel that my disability has made me bitter and unkind, because i can’t help but compare my own experiences with theirs.
this is the reality of disability- it does not create perfect people. many of us are broken and struggle to connect with others because of our conditions, and that does not mean we are evil people

Taking care of the disabled and injured is human nature actually. We have evidence of our ancestors caring for folks with disabilities. We're a cooperative species that takes care of their own. If our starving, weary, and hunted ancestors could care for the disabled members of their tribe, in this era of modern medicine and abundant resources we absolutely can afford to do the same.

it is possible for someone to be 'more disabled' than you, and that's okay. all it means is that they have higher support needs and their disability disables them more than yours does.
that is not an attack on your validity as a disabled person.
that does not mean that you are not disabled.
someone else's disability has no impact on your own. there will always be someone more disabled than you. that is completely okay.

Making this post again but on a new account. I don’t care about cis women’s feelings related to gender neutral language in medical care. Trans men not dying from being refused medical care is more important.
Medical insurance will try to use any reasoning possible to try to deny people coverage, and removing gendered terms when discussing and classifying care makes it harder for them to deny life saving treatment for trans people.
I’m sorry you get all pissy about the terms people who can get pregnant, people with a uterus, people with breasts, and pregnant people. But you need to grow up and stop getting your fee fees hurt by terms that make it easier for others to access life saving care.

Me rn after taking my dog on a day trip to a large dog park for some active name recall training, socialization, and wheelchair walking (she’s never been out walking with just me in my chair, usually my leg-user boyfriend holds the leash). I forgot that it was a huge trip and workout for me, esp in the sudden heat!
But hey, my dog is cool w wheelchairs, just treats me the same which means running in circles around me and tangling me up lol
ready to be done being in pain now please

I hate it when a disabled person is on telly and it's so obvious that talking about their disability is upsetting but they "push through" and tell their story to "inspire us" all. I can't think of any time i've seen a disabled person on telly who was just able to say, "i'm disabled" with minimal detail and not have to delve into a part of their life that's clearly personal and upsetting to them

Omg! Did u see? It only took me over two years to bring this zine into reality!
Honestly, I’m so relieved I finally did finish this and released it. I’m looking forward to moving on to the next issue and a new project. I’m tired! But I’m proud I finished it and didn’t scrap it or give up on the series.
I’m constantly needing to remind myself that I’m disabled, and I’m living in a world where quite literally *everything* is more difficult for me because of that. There have been no spoons in my drawer for a long time, but I scraped together what I could to publish this issue. If that’s not very on topic, I don’t know what is lol
Both the PDF and physical listings are up on my site now! And an announcement will follow soon(ish) for open submissions for issue 18: Body Mods as Transformation.

I would dearly love for more people to be capable of differentiating between public risk and personal risk.
Examples: drinking is a personal risk. Drinking and driving is a public risk. Going scuba diving is a personal risk. Running a scuba shop with faulty equipment is a public risk. Riding a bicycle without a helmet is a personal risk. Not maintaining public transport safety standards is a public risk. Foraging for mushrooms is a personal risk. Advertising a mushroom identification app that uses shoddy AI is a public risk. Elective surgery is a personal risk. Not wearing a mask in a doctor's waiting room when you are sick with a contagious illness is a public risk.
I could go on just about forever here. But it's a really important distinction and it drives me nuts when they get conflated, and it's so common.

Free Superstition Zine!! (When All Else Fails)
Hey everyone! I made a zine for one of my classes and it was really fun. I compiled a bunch of superstitions and their origins, so if you find that stuff interesting, or just want a free zine to print out, here you go!

not that anyone asked me in particular, but since theres worry about tumblrs lifespan, i think itd be cool if people made zines of their favorite posts and such. Even if things end up all good, you could have a little book of your favorite ones for when you're bored or cant get online or something. Just a random idea :]

“Normal” test results are not the relief people think they are. When you wake up in pain and continue to be in pain for hours every day and your tests come back normal you don’t stop being in pain.
