When I printed out my portfolio and laid everything out on the table, I was disappointed. I knew the colours would all be off given that physical print would never match what I had on the screen in front of me, but I was still quite irked by just how badly the paper was off compared to all the colours and effects I had on screen. I didn't even bother trying to bind it nicely, because what was the point with such poor quality paper/print?
I fought with solving the impossible question of "how do I get the paper to look as vivid as what is on my screen?" I wsn't exactly keen on paying for printing again if it was just going to turn out poorly, and I didn't want to waste time restarting. The answer to my question? "You don't!"
I'm a motion artist, and I have more than enough skill to make a video portfolio in after effects. So I figured, why not just make one to show on my laptop alongside the print portfolio during the grad show? That way, people in a rush can flip through the paper one I had sitting next to the laptop, and those who had a little more time to hang around and watch could do so. That also solved my issue of how to properly portray all the hard work I put into my motion design projects this semester, as still images just weren't cutting it for me. Just have them play on the laptop instead!
The video reel, unfortunately, will not be included in this post (as I don't like the idea of posting something that talks about my location so many times,) but has been submitted directly to my instructor for grading. I have included a couple still images rendered from the video comp here though!

Layout of my printed portfolio pages for Applied 2
I have the title cards last because they were originally part of an idea I had where the motion design stills would fold out accordion-style, sort of like a flip book when people opened my portfolio? If that makes sense.
When put into practice however, I was quite unhappy with the quality and ended up tossing it before I remembered to take pictures. Later, I had an even better idea that will be posted separately.

Here's the wireframe for today's critique! It's a little messy looking but it's organized in a way that I know what's going on so it works.

The first step of getting started in figma o7
It looks like nothing right now, but I'm just going slow trying to figure out how components work first. I think I'm starting to get the hang of it, so the next step is drawing some logos and working on the type choices and colour palette!

Headshots and Footshots
Feb 28 2025
Today was chaotic. Bright Eyed and not so-bushy tailed the media and ass-team came to the studio early to set up two separate spaces for shooting.

Pictured: sneak peak of the headshot setup. Thank you Jayden for the plant, Doug for the rug (i might steal it), Kenny for the backdrop, and Liew's collection of mugs for some MHC product placement lol
After some test shots and briefing, the gang was ready to pose! We worked on an introduction video and photos for media. This took all day, with everyone being allotted 15 minutes for their headshots. This allowed everyone to customise the set, and have a few options to pick from.
Stay tuned on IG: @ gradshowmhc to see our pretty faces
If you're still reading, you must be curious about what the rest of the teams did between their photoshoots.
Media
- photos, video, cool shit - the video is the cutest thing i have maybe ever seen. huge s/o to Josh and Brayten for shooting and editing all in one day, and doing an awesome job at that
Fundraising
- we learned something new today: we have to be registered as a school club to host a bake sale apparently. - with all the hoops we have to jump through.. we might start up a workout class. Artful hula hooping, anyone? - sent out some emails and inquiries to sponsors and local businesses
Illustration
- march 2nd: keep an eye out on our socials for a taste of some sweet illustrations - finishing up social media pfp and banners - worked on web illustrations - merch designs in progress!
Design
- working on a more comprehensive, detailed brand guide - invitation concepts decided on and now we're getting started and experimenting. yay!
Web
- finshed wireframes. woohoo! - starting to collab with illustration to spruce up the space with official concepts - starting to collect information to use for website
Assistant Management (me n my chocolate starfishes)
- polishing project proposal and getting final approval before presenting - prepping for our meeting with the Dean w slideshows and speaking notes - assistance in merch design and photo editing

Wireframe WIP
What I have so far for my wireframe. In-progress critique tomorrow, hoping I can get some good feedback because as it turns out, creating a wireframe is harder than I thought it would be. I got about this far over the weekend before realizing I'm actually not sure what should go next.
#student#student artist#I should clarify for those who filled out my survey#This is NOT a real app in development#I had some responses there asking if they could help with development#And that is very nice but I would fail my assignment haha#tags for my prof ->#applied496#A-proj.2#AppliedWip

Tags navigation:
Welcome! If you're here, you're probably one of my professors, but whether you are or aren't, here's a brief guide in navigating common tags (related to my classwork) on my blog!
APPLIED:
The list of tags that will be on all my work related to my "Applied496" classes.
"Applied496" - will be on all posts related to this class
"A-proj.2" - work related to the second project of the semester
"A-proj.3" - work related to the third project of the semester
"AppliedWip" - unfinished work related to this class
"AppliedFinal" - completed work related to this class
MOTION:
The list of tags that will be on all work related to my "Motion438" classes.
"Motion438" - will be on all posts related to this class
"M-proj.1-4" - tags that will be related to the corresponding projects of the semester.
"MotionWip" - unfinished work related to this class
"MotionFinal" - completed works related to this class
SCULPTURE:
The list of tags that will be on all my work related to my "Sculpture408" classes.
"Sculpture408" - will be on all posts related to this class.
"S-project.1-3" tags that will be related to the corresponding projects of this semester.
"SculptureWip" - unfinished work related to this class
"SculptureFinal" - completed work related to this class
GRAD:
In our program, the graduating class will host their own art show at the end of the winter semester! These tags will feature work related to that project.
"GradWork" - work related to my graduation art show pieces
"GradWip" - posts related to works in progress for the grad show
"GradProcess" - posts specifically related to the process between myself or other classmates (with permission)
"Living:Room2025" - On most posts related to grad show stuff
PREVIOUS:
Works that are related to previous classes I've had while studying in my program. I don't want to make a tag system for every class I've ever taken, so all my "previous" works that didn't come from my last semester will be sorted here, with a tag that mentions which class specifically it comes from.
"PreviousClasswork" - will be on all posts related to this category
"PreviousWip" - wip shots of previous work, if I can still find any of them and decide they're worth posting

TTRPG Survey
Hello all!
I've made a short survey for all who enjoy playing ttrpg games in person or online. It's for a project in class, so I'd appreciate any time anyone can give to responses! (All I ask is that you take the survey seriously.)
Although it is intended for Canadian participants, I encourage anyone who wants to share their input to do so! It should take about 10-20 minutes to complete, but if I've done it right autosave should be on so don't stress about leaving and coming back later!
Thanks in advance!
#survey#ttrpg community#ttrpg#tabletop#pathfinder#dungeons and dragons#dnd#I probably missed a thousand ttrpg tags for this post feel free to lmk if I should add more!#student#college student#Tags for my prof ->#Applied496#AppliedWip

Hey Hey!
My name is Soren, I'm a Canadian artist in the final year of an applied bachelors degree in the arts. I love concept/character art, animation/motion graphics, and illustration, but I'm fairly well-rounded and enjoy working with a variety of materials.
This blog was created as a record of processes and finished artworks for an assignment in one of my classes - but stick around! There'll be more to see even after I've finished my classes and moved on to other things. Here is a post detailing tags that will be on my classwork posts to make things easier for my profs to find.
Wanna see what the grad class is up to? Go check out @living-room2025! We have lots of cool projects on the go, and even cooler students behind the scenes!
#intro post#introduction#pinned post#long post#Check out our grad work!!!#If you see a gentleman with curly brown hair and squareish shaped glasses that would be yours truly :)#In my element and thriving on the illustration team
