“Kamurai, please watch out!” You sputter out as the anomaly charges towards the two of you. Jin roughly grabs you and pulls you aside. He takes out his sword and pushes the anomaly back away. He wouldn’t want it anywhere near you. 

Jin tears a portal in front of him and signals you over. You quickly rush over to him. This anomaly was too violent to start asking questions first. 

He holds your upper arm, firm but still gentle. The same familiar grasp he uses when he drags you places. You both enter the light as the anomaly makes a final rush, but it was a step behind. As they all were, looking up at Jin Kamurai. 

The light shines in and fades out, blinding throughout. It attacks your eyes, no matter how many times this happens. Considering Jin escapes off with you near weekly, it’s a surprise you haven’t gone blind. When your eyes adjust, you notice you’re back at Darkwick.

“Wait, Kamurai! You put us somewhere else. We have to go back-” You start to turn to go back into the portal.

But you were stopped. 

Jin’s grip on your arm hasn’t left for the whole time, latched onto you. Never far apart. “It’s not a good idea.”

“Huh?” You blink twice. Jin always said cryptic things, it’s almost impossible to piece his thoughts together with the little he let on.

“I won’t be able to avoid harming the anomaly with how it's acting. We put a plan, and by the look of you, you don’t have one.”

You grin sheepishly, taking a step closer to him. What’s a foot towards him when he never lets go? “Well… but wait. Avoid harming the anomaly? Aww, does Jin have a soft spot?”

“We need it alive to get a chance to break your curse. Might as well keep it in one piece.” Jin looks away, avoiding your gaze.

You’ve encountered anomalies on every mission you took. Most ended up destroyed in the heat of battle or due to apathy. Truthfully, it feels like many put your goal behind their feelings. You can’t get too mad, as most people would do the same. But you wish…

You wished for a soul like Jin to enter your life.

“Thank you, Jin.” 

He doesn’t want to ruin the moment, the way he seemed to manage by accident. His grip tightens. So he nodded, hoping you’d understand everything he couldn’t say.

Shared Kiss - Rui x Reader

Synopsis: Rui wants to protect you, so, so badly. But will he hurt you more?

Rui passed you a drink, the liquid nearly spilling over. It never did though, no matter how many times he slid glasses.

You grab the cocktail– mocktail for today. You didn’t feel well today, and you didn’t know if you’d feel better. Only a few months remained before the curse overtook you and turned you into a mindless beast. The stress caught up to you today, and Rui could tell.

He could always tell.

“For you, it’s on the house!” It’s always on the house for you, but he never had that part out loud. It showed through anytime you came to the bar. Anytime you needed help. Anytime you needed him.

Swirling the drink, then taking a sip. It was made to your tastes, suited just for you. “It’s really good, thank you.”

“I could tell you needed a pick me up.” He leans on the counter in front of you with a smile. And frankly, he was right. Going on cases takes its toll, and you look ragged.

You sigh and bury your head into your arms. “Good to know.” You grumble. From the corner of your eye, you could see Rui reach out to you.

You’ve seen him nearly touch you several times. When you run into danger for Lyca, his hand instinctively reaches out to you. He wants nothing more than to protect you, who he holds dear.

But he knows he’ll hurt you more than he can protect you. His blood turns cold, which makes him freeze every time. In an attempt to protect you, what if he accidentally touches you?

“Don’t worry MC, you always look as pretty as can be!” His hand retreats like a wounded soldier. Rather him than you, he thinks.

You raised your head to really look at him. He looked slightly haggard himself, though poorly disguised. What a hypocrite!

You point a finger at him and purse your dry lips. “What about you? You also look exhausted…”

He raised both hands in admission and a sheepish laugh, “Haha caught me there! The bar’s been so busy lately, I’ve barely had a moment to take a break. Until you came, cutie!”

You snort a laugh and push the drink over to him. “Sounds like you need this just as much as me then.”

He hesitantly took the cup and drank from it. Would this technically be his first kiss? It was elementary school logic to consider something like sharing a kiss, but… it was everything Rui could hope for. He looked at you, a smile playing on your lips.

Oh, you had realized the same silly notion.

Rui took a slow long sip, enjoying every moment.
