Personal & Career Goal setting
A very interesting fact to consider:
“People who explicitly make New Year's resolutions are 10 times more likely to attain their goals than people who don't explicitly make resolutions, according to the grim statistics on resolutions from Statistic Brain.”
Tumblr media
How to achieve your Goals
First, focus on goals rather than resolutions.
Resolutions rely on will power, and will power is usually more effective at the beginning of change, which is more of a marathon than a sprint. Instead: setting goals, creating an action plan, neutralizing the fear and resulting negativity that often accompany change, getting support, and setting up structures like tracking your progress will help you go the distance.
Why set Goals?
Goals give clarity to your vision.
Goals make what you want.
Goals helps you focus your daily energy towards making your wishes and dreams reality.
A respected and effective method for setting goals and tracking your progress is the S.M.A.R.T. model by setting goals that are:
S - Specific
M - Measurable
A - Attainable
R - Relevant
T - Time Bound
Ask these questions to yourself while determining your Goals:
What were your finest moments over the past year?
What were your biggest disappointments?
What did you learn?
How are you getting in your own way?
What are your personal values?
What do you want your legacy to be? What impact do you want to make in the rest of your life?
Which area(s) of your life will be your major focus?
What’s next?
PERSONAL GOAL SETTING
When you set personal Goals to improve your life,it gives you a direction in life, it gives meaning to your daily life. You have a reason to wake-up in the morning, you have a path to follow and some work to do. That helps you to be satisfied with yourself and feel good at the end of the day. It’s a much better way of living than purposelessly wandering through life and complaining about not succeeding in anything. Personal Goal also turn you into a more responsible individual.
Personal Goals that can Improve you Life
1.  Start getting things done.
Productivity is one of the most important skills you can build. Firstly stop yourself keeping busy in pointless activities and do meaningful tasks. This can be done by carefully examining how you currently spend time and then remove the tasks which are not closer to your goal.
2.   Embrace mindfulness.
Setting such a life goal will make you enjoy every minute of every day.
Here are some idea:
Meditate
Count your blessings
Manage your time better in order not to be in a rush. Use the extra minutes here and there to take a few deep breaths and just notice what’s around you.
Don’t be a perfectionist and accept anything you are, get or see as the best for this moment. That’s how you’ll find yourself living in abundance soon.
When socializing, be fully there. Don’t expect the person to behave in a certain way, don’t bring back stuff from the past, don’t interrupt. Practice active listening and thus form a deeper relationship.
3.  Travel Solo
The most challenging things also turn out to be the best decisions we take in life.  So it is with personal goals like this. Traveling is a tool for self-improvement, for spiritual development, for building discipline, meeting fantastic individuals, gaining confidence, and seeing things from another perspective. If you decide to do it solo, even better.
4.  Starting Exercise
You might have heard that one before, but this time consider it because of this. For a start, making exercise a permanent part of your life means starting something new, taking up a new hobby and developing a new habit. All these are fantastic examples of personal goals and they are all a result of getting more active.
Expect clear focus, getting in shape, increased strength, nicer looks, toned muscles, energy throughout the whole day, better sleep, and more.
5. Get Rid of Toxic People
Are there people in your life that are draining your energy, instead of boosting it? Do you often communicate with complainers, negative individuals who judge anything you do or even discourage you from trying new things? They shouldn’t be a big part of your life anymore. Such personal goals require tough choices, but for a good cause. It might mean ending a relationship if it’s going nowhere.
The people you’re surrounded with, if chosen wisely, can help you reach all your goals in life and make the process easier.
“Change happens slowly, but that’s how it remains permanent.”
CAREER GOAL SETTING
What is Career Goal?
A career goal is a well-defined statement explaining the profession that an individual intends to pursue throughout his career. It is important for every employee or job seeker to define their career goals clearly. It helps them to come up with effective action plans.
Set Career Goal
When setting career goals, an individual should ensure that they meet the following criteria:
1. SPECIFIC
When setting goals, an individual shouldn’t just focus on being successful. Instead, he should define what success means to him. Ultimate success for one person may just be a milestone to achieving bigger goals for a different person. For one individual, success may be becoming the chief executive officer for a company. For another, success can be attaining financial freedom.
2. MEASURABLE
As one sets his career goals, he should ensure that he also comes up with a way to measure their outcome. This can be done by setting a time frame, such as “complete MBA degree within three years”. Once the individual is able to attain the short-term goals within the time frame he sets, then he’s on the right path to achieving his ultimate goal.
3. AVOID NEGATIVITY
A goal must be something that an individual wants rather than a factor he wants to avoid. So, instead of focusing on leaving a particular job or position within the next five years, the employee should aim at where he wants to be and think about what they can do to move toward getting there.
4. REALISTIC
More than anything, an individual’s career goals must be realistic. It wouldn’t make sense for an individual to set a goal of winning a Grammy award if he’s never performed or played an instrument. On the other hand, the individual setting goals shouldn’t keep things too simple. A career road-map should be a challenge, not a walk in the park. If the individual’s goals don’t make him a little bit uncomfortable, then he should probably set higher limits.
5. TIE ACTIONS TO EACH GOAL
For each set goal, a person needs to take certain measures to achieve it. Listing the different activities that are needed to achieve a goal makes the whole process easier.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Business Analyst
Tumblr media
If you aren’t a millennial working in IT, it is quite possible that you may not be familiar with the term, “Business Analyst."
But there are plenty of reasons why you should be.
Business analysis has emerged as a core business practice since the dawn of the 21st century. Although every business domain has some business analyst jobs; IT especially has witnessed an explosion of career opportunities for business analyst profiles.
So, why has BA swiftly rose to prominence, and why are they being offered such lucrative salary packages?
This is primarily because they serve as a vital link between a firm's information technology capabilities and their business objectives. Skilled business analysts directly contribute to the profitability of companies, large or small.
Now, before delving into the roles and responsibilities, and what it takes to become a Business Analyst, let’s dig a little deeper into what precisely does a Business Analyst do.
What is the Role of a Business Analyst?
In today’s complex business environment, an organization’s adaptability, agility, and ability to manage constant disruption through innovation can be an important element to ensure success. Traditional approaches may no longer suffice in reaching objectives when economic conditions are unfavorable.
That’s where business analysis comes in. Businesses achieve goals through projects that translate customer needs into new products, services, and profits. Business analysts can make that happen rather efficiently & effectively.
A business analyst's primary objective is helping businesses cost-effectively implement technology solutions by precisely determining the requirements of a project or a program, and communicating them clearly to the key stakeholders.
Business analysts usually collect and interpret data from many areas within an organization, simultaneously improving the business processes and finding solutions to business problems with all that gathered data.
Pre-Requisites
BAs typically require knowledge of statistics, and statistical softwares such as R. Companies prefer a BA who also possesses relevant SQL skills.
The education and training requirements, although, may vary for business by - employer, specific role, and industry.
It is possible to enter into the field with just a two-year degree and relevant work experience, but most employers would require at least a bachelor's degree.
Business analysts should be able to create solutions to problems for the business as a whole, and accordingly must effectively be able to communicate with a variety of business areas. Thus communication     skills are another major prerequisite.
BAs should be able to understand the business needs of customers and should be able to translate them into the application and operational requirements with the help of solid analytical and product management skills.
NOTE: As mentioned, SQL knowledge is a much sought-after skill for business analysts. SQL is a key language utilized for managing data held in RDBMS or relational database systems. Business analysts might not require the same level of SQL knowledge as, say, an analyst would, but a basic understanding of its concept, capabilities and basic functions is essential.
The Duties of a Business Analyst:
Documenting and translating customer business functions     and processes.
Warranting the system design is perfect as per the     needs of the customer.
Participating in functionality testing and user     acceptance testing of the new system
Helping technically in training and coaching     professional and technical staff.
Developing a training programme and conducting formal     training sessions covering designated systems module.
Acting as a team-lead on assigned projects and     assignments; and providing work direction to the developers and other     project stakeholders.
 Responsibilities Of A Business Analyst
Let's take a look at the responsibilities based on different project phase.
1. Understanding the Requirements of the Business
Understanding the intricacies of a project is very crucial for BAs. A fundamental responsibility of a Business Analyst is to work in accordance with relevant project stakeholders to understand their requirements and translate them into details, which the developers can comprehend.
The key skill set required for this part of the process is the capability of the Analysts to filter the different messages as well as the requirements of the project stakeholders or consumers into a consistent, but, - single vision.
Thus, a business analyst devotes a large chunk of time, asking questions. They may even need to conduct interviews, read, observe and align the developers with their target goal.
They also need to carry out analysis and look for solutions for both, the organization, as well as the customer.
2. Analyzing Information
The analysis phase is the stage during which a BA reviews the elements in detail, asserting clearly and unambiguously as what the business needs to do in order achieve its objective.
During this stage, the BA will also require to interact with the development team and the technical architects, to design the layout and define accurately what the solution should look like.
A Business Analyst then plots the scope and initial requirement of the project. The fundamental goal for any BA is to obtain the project concentrated early by converting the initial high-level goal into a tangible realistic one.
3. Communicating With a Broad Range Of People
For Businesses, it is of paramount importance to create, as well as deliver quality presentations on topics like business requirements, application designs, as well as project status. Good Business Analysts needs to dedicate countless hours actively communicating back and forth. More than just speaking, they need to listen and recognize verbal and non-verbal information.
Generally, people watching the presentation of Business Analysts are senior executives of the organization, as well as key management people of IT. Building an open conversation, validating that you understand what you have heard, and communicating what you have gathered to the stakeholders is extremely important to keep the vehicle operating efficiently.
Therefore, Business Analysts are expected to impress the stakeholders and other authority with their presentations, which in turn would have a notable effect on the growth of the business.
4. Documenting the Findings
This is where a BA gets into evaluating the needs and ensuring that the implementation team has gathered comprehensive details they require for creating and implementing the process. This phase involves collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders and consumers across the company to guarantee their needs, as well as knowledge, are combined into a detailed document about what they will actually build.
An effective document is the one which clearly states options for solving particular difficulties and then helps select the best one. There are oftentimes situations where a BA might miss out on a few requirements from the document.
Consequently, the developers won't be aware of the same which in turn would lead to a considerable loss of time and efforts, as they would be required to redesign the product, this time including the missed part.
Hence, it is extremely critical for any BA to effectively document the findings where each requirement of the client is efficiently mentioned, and nothing is left amiss.
The favored solution is then estimated throughout the layout and planning - to assure that it meets the business requirements.
5. Evaluating and Implementing the Finest Solution
Ensuring that the systems’ design is up to the mark, as per the needs of the customer is the next decisive step. Business Analyst spends time identifying options for solving particular difficulties and then help pick the best one. The preferred solution is then assessed throughout the layout and planning to assure that it meets the business requirements.
The implementation phase, although, is not the final stage for Business Analysts. In fact, it could turn out to be the riskiest time for things to go awry and for objectives to be overlooked. It is during this step that a BA should be aware of how clients are utilizing the framework.
Do they clearly see the benefits envisaged in the business case?
In essence, Business Analysts are the navigators, responsible for reaching the end destination, which implies a satisfying resolution of a business problem.
The BA must always be aware of what the end-game is, how to get there and should be competent enough of handling course adjustments as they occur.

Few years ago, one of my best friends, took to a 24-hour flight to visit me. He had (still has, I should say) a brilliant career as a shoes designer. We always spend quality time together and he is one of those fiends who keeps your brain stimulated. I love that. One night, after a lovely dinner and some good wine, we started to speak about regrets. He said this:"I really enjoy what I'm doing. However, my biggest regret is not having a degree."In my head that sounded like one of those massive gongs going off in a Buddhist temple. Back in the days, I studied accounting. When I finished, I started a degree in Psychology, did a bunch of exams but never completed it. Time goes by, I started a career and most importantly a family. In this scenario, most of the people assume that going back to Uni is impossible. Days are so full on! When you get home at night you just feel like watching a movie on the couch. With a nice glass of Pinot Noir, obviously. ;- ) That was me.Anyway, a couple of weeks after that night, the gong was still echoing inside my head. I was exactly in my friend's position. I was enjoying what I was doing but regretting the fact that I did not fully completed a degree. I could not let it go for some reasons. In my private and professional life, I always have been a curious person. I enjoy understanding the reason behind words and facts. Professionally, I always felt I wanted to broaden my knowledge in the marketing and management fields. I used to read books, watching videos and ultimately, subscribing to Udemy courses. But it was not enough. Having a degree does not make you smarter or more successful, but it definitely gives you a deep understanding about a specific topic. Not to mention the satisfaction of saying "YES, I made it!".I then started to look around and make some enquiries to various universities. Fees and compulsory attendance were the first road blocks. Way too much money and restrictions. Luckily, sometimes ... I can be stubborn. I kept researching, researching and researching. One day I bump into this friend of mine and I tell her about my idea of starting to study again. After a while she goes like "You should speak to my friend Helen, she is a student counsellor. She might be able to give you a suggestion."Hence, I did speak to her. And guess what? 20 exams later with 4 to go, I still cannot believe I have made it so far.How I did itAs I said, time and costs were the main constraints to me. With a full time job, I knew for sure that I was not able to go to class. The only way to do it, was to have something flexible that I could adapt to my schedule. Helen recommended me to check out a website. I did not have any clue about the existence of it and it was exactly what I was looking for.The site I am talking about is Open University Australia (OUA).OUA was founded in 1993 as an online platform to offer quality education accessible to as many students as possible. In other words, OUA is an organization that has agreements with Australian leading universities. They help you making a bridge between the subjects, or the degree you want to complete, with the right University. Once you have picked the right path, you can graduate from the Uni offering that particular degree. The cool thing is that everything is done online. Pretty straight forward. The great benefits OUA offer are:1. They collaborate with all the major Universities in Australia offering a great variety of degrees;2. They give students total freedom of studying at their own pace;3. They offer 100% online content with exams venues spread out in an incredible number of countries;4. The fees are lower than a traditional University;5. The degree has exactly the same value of a "standard" Uni degree.6. The student service is incredibly professional and quick. To me, points 2 and 3 were no-brainers to give it a go.My tips to combine work-private life with studyingAs I mentioned before, studying while juggling all the aspects of life (particularly when working full time), can be overwhelming. It requires mental strengths, commitment and a lot of discipline. Imagine yourself coming back home after a 8/9 hours shift. You need to do some chores, dinner, talk to your partner, perhaps playing with the kids or taking out the dog for a walk... and after all of this, starting to work on a 5,000 words assignment. :-0 The question is, can you do it?The answer is YES!!! If I made it so far, everybody can do it. When you subscribe to Facebook groups or other student forums, you actually realize that you are not that special. Indeed, there are mothers of 3 or 4 kids out there, doing 2/3 subjects per study period (1SP = 3 months)! In France, they say "Chapeau" which means "respect". My total respect to these monsters. Here are my tips to nail it:1. Pick a subject that you really like.It does not matter what your age is. You need to study something that can bring value to your life. It can be personal, professional or just as a hobby, but you really need to enjoy it. Otherwise, you will not be able to study when you are stressed and tired.2. Pick the right provider. There are various organizations/universities offering online studies. What is the subject you want to study? Do your homework by selecting the best provider according to your needs. To me flexibility was my non-negotiable clause. What is your one? What are you willing to forgo?3. Stay focused on the final result.Once you start, the first couple of subjects are the toughest ones; particularly for people that are starting after a long break from study. Do not get frustrated if you do not have a clear idea of what is going on. You will find your own pace and a study system. Subscribe to Facebook pages or to the unit student forum. There are hundreds of students in your situation. The community can help you to overcome fear and give you great tips. One of the first things to do is to read thoroughly the unit outline and the assessments due dates. Every Unit is different not just in terms of content but also and moreover in terms of how it is structured by the convenor. You will soon experience yourself that not all the units are 100% student-friendly.4. Plan your schedule wisely. Some units require lots of reading. It is not uncommon going reading a 6/700 pages textbook. When do you go through that "brick-book"? Very often there are classes that are video recorded. I find them extremely useful. You need to allocate time to watch them. I can bet that, whatever the lecturer is explaining, it will be part of an assignment or the final exam. Participate to all the collaborative sessions with lecturer and other students. If you cannot attend, download the recording and watch it. During collaborative sessions you can gather hints for your assessments.5. Do not fall behind with the workload.Every spare time during the day is useful to keep yourself up to date with the unit. Which means: are you commuting with a public transport? Great time to read the textbook. Are you having 1 hour lunch break? Perfect to eat and watch the lecturer's video. Are you going for a run? Amazing, you can listen to the last collaborative session. You see? Now more than ever, time is precious.6. Tackle the assessments 1 by 1, section by section. What do I mean by this? Throughout the study period you will usually have 2 or 3 assessments to test your progression with the unit. The assessments will contribute to the final grade which is made of 50/60% assessments and 40/50% exam result. Hence, if you work hard with assessments, you will take off pressure the exam day. My main rule is to bring home as many marks as possible during the study period. Knowing that I need just 10 marks to get a pass in the exam, gives me a more relaxed state of mind. It makes me perform better. The second part of this tip is the "section by section" approach. I can guarantee you that every time I read the words report or essay with 3-5000 word count +/- 10% ..., I shiver. The next thought is "I'm never gonna finish it". The greatest trick ever here, is to make a skeleton of the project/essay and give yourself a time frame to complete section by section. For example, you do Introduction, History, Current situation, etc. and you then would say, "ok, tonight I need to do the introduction". Done. Next day you say, "ok, this weekend I need to do the history" and so forth. Start filling in the paper and keep going until the end. Once you submitted it, you would not believe you have done it all on your own. The satisfaction is great.7. Stay healthy. Some days you will be pretty exhausted. You get home and there is no way you are going to read a single page of the textbook. That is fine. You need to understand where your limit is. That night is probably better to have a light meal and go straight to bed. Regenerating yourself is critical to keep your brain functioning. You achieve this by eating healthy, doing exercise and have regular sleep. Do not underestimate this.8. Reward yourself.Rewarding yourself after an assessment is submitted or an exam is done, injects new fuel in the engine. It gives you a boost to keep going and look forward to the next reward. Trust me, from now on, you will never take for granted any new TV series on Netflix! This means, that when you will reward yourself with a week off from the books to watch the new show, it will be a whole new world! In conclusion, yes, studying while working full time is hard. But you are not the only one. I know tens of people doing this successfully. There is no age limit. It is amazing to sit an exam, watch around you and realize how diverse the class is. Still today after 20 exams, I am surprised every time. The morale of the storyStudying, whether towards a degree or a simple course, does not make you a successful entrepreneur. But, for sure, it gives you the foundation to jump into the trenches and get your hands dirty. If you have doubts about starting to study again, now is the right time. Today's technology offers countless tools to be successful in your studies. Money cannot buy the final reward.I know already what I will do next, and you?Ah, one more last thing. Do not hesitate to reach out if you need further details or suggestions. I would be extremely happy to help you.DisclaimerI am not paid or will receive any commission from OUA. This post is purely based on my experience with them. I sincerely hope that it will help you to take the leap of faith and to challenge yourself to improve you life.

Week 5
For this week’s workshop, we performed a card sort on statements from Alumni. We were given two sets of statements to sort.
The first set were responses to “What I would say to a Keele student graduating in my course or subject”. We sorted them into categories based on their general focus:
“Your modules are important”
D - I hope you've been programming whilst you've been studying, and if  not, think of an application you'd like to exist, and get coding. Also, SQL queries work completely differently to languages like C and Pascal.  It's all about getting rid of as many records as possible out of your query  as quickly as possible.
I - Study subjects specialisms that you have an interest in. You will  learn something that will come in handy when you are problem solving in later  life.
K - Pay attention because you'll be surprised what turns out to be useful,  and don't worry if it doesn't seem like your career doesn't seem linear  afterwards.
U -  Don't look down upon the theoretical modules.
“You’ll be great”
M - Don't underestimate your value to future employers
Q - Don't think what you know will help you in your career, but how you  think.
V - I would tell them the sky is the limit.
General Negativity
R - Good luck you are competing against thousands of pakistanis who will work for half your wages.
“You’ll be able to do lots of different jobs”
B - Graduating in Computing opened up work opportunities in the IT or ICT oriented companies, as well as other industries as Information Management is required in most companies for managing their data and documentation. In most companies, there is an established career paths in IT or ICT.
E - Go into IT, even if you didn't do computer science. There are so many different jobs to do, there's always vacancies and the promotion ladder is based on knowledge gained, so it's automatic over time.
J -  You have a great all-round knowledge, so be brave enough to apply for any job in computing.
L - The combination of international politics and computer science, is day  by day, becoming increasingly more important and relevant. A fascinating area  of study and a great combination of social science and technology.
O - If you are good, then look me up, I may be able to offer you a job!
P - If you have no ties to an areas join the biggest company you can, get the most out of it (use them) in those years without dependents. Then join a company that will support your work life balance.
S - There are many different types of jobs out there for computer scientists, make sure you think hard before just going into programming. Technical Sales, Technical Support, Enterprise Architecture, DB admin all are careers in their own right, with their own promotion ladders. You don’t have to worry straight away, just get a job, and then plan where you want to be. Make sure you see where you want to get to 3-4 years down the line, and then again 15-20 years down the line. Although it is difficult it really helps to have a game plan.
T - If you struggle in the job market don't worry about it, the best thing you can do is go it alone and learn and work for yourself, as much as you can until some company has the good sense to take a chance on you.
“You need to have skills outside of your degree”
A - Employers want people who can actually do something. If you can show that you've actually created a proper piece of software you're already in the top 20%. I heard an interview the other day which I thought was great. The guy said "Find something that you enjoy doing so much that you'd be willing to do it for nothing and you'll never need to WORK a day in your life". That's how I feel about software development.
C - Well, that depends on the path that they want to take. If you're going on to a development or creative career, don't just rely on your degree to get you a job - build yourself a portfolio of work too. People don't want to just see that you are educated to a certain standard, they want to see you can actually do the jobs at hand.
F - The world is your oyster computer science and anything else will really help distinguish you from other graduates. Don't give up if you don't get the first few jobs you apply for as someone out there is desperately looking for your skill set!
G - Dual honours will put you above the rest. Make the most of your skills and follow your passion.
H - Try and get some summertime internship experience between years 1/2 and 2/3 - as this will broaden your understanding. Don't take what you are taught as defacto - Mainframes and other computers still exist. Consider looking at problems through different aspects and personas.
N - Computer Science - work on a project you're interested in and has a real world application. This way when you move into the world of work, you have a great starting point. Law - get your work experience early!
The second set were responses to “What do you think is the best way to prepare yourself for a job interview?”. We sorted them into categories based on their general focus:
Presenting yourself during the interview
1 - Be able to talk passionately and enthusiastically about software and the stuff you've done. Read web sites like theregister.co.uk or slashdot.org. Also, highly recommend the essays from paulgraham.com.
2 - In my opinion, you need 3 things:  - Knowledgeable about the subject matter on the degree you acquired;  - Prepare a reasonable and precise CV;  - Be confident, and enhance your presentation skill, for example, look in the  eye of the interviewer when you speak;
11 - Go through what you said in the application form and the skills that they require. Be prepared to discuss it. More importantly: Relax, smile, talk to them like human beings.
22 - Be well dressed, and speak fluently.
Practice interviews
8 - Practice interviews. Find out as much as possible about the company and the particular area you're applying to work in. Find out what they're looking for if you can.
14 - Practice, practice, practice. Make a list of 10 experiences in your life that you can use to describe different skills (and list the skills alongside them). Then rehearse explaining these situations and linking to specific skills.
17 - Experience, apply for every job and do the interviews to gain experience and confidence.
Research the company
4 - Find out a bit about the company and what they do (although you should do this before even applying for a job), then just relax, and be yourself. I'd rather employ someone with a slight lack of skill than any lack of honesty.
6 - Read up a little bit about the company, just to show you've made an effort, but they'll be more interested in how willing you are to learn and what effort you've put in beforehand to prepare yourself for the role. People who are willing to learn are more useful to companies than drones who know how to do the minimum but don't have the will to learn.
7 - Research the company and the key contacts. Understand what they do - and how you might add value or improve. Don't focus on financial reward - its more valueable to have a job you genuinely enjoy.
9 - Relax, read about the company and how the job fits into what they do. Be professional but be yourself.
10 - Research the company and its markets, products and services. Research the people who will be interviewing you and other important people in the organisation.
12 - Learn as much as you can about the company you are going to be interviewed for and the work that they do, do a practice interview, and have a portfolio to hand.
15 - Read up on the company as much as possible.
16 - Research the company, understand what the role entails and ensure you have relevant questions for the interviewer about the role and the company.
19 - Research the company, know why you think you want to work there and go in with the questions that confirm if you do want to work there. It may not seem like it but the company is far more selling itself to you than you have to sell yourself to them. Interview them, be sure you want to work there.
20 - Learn everything about the company but most importantly, learn about the interviewer. It will give you a massive confidence boost when you are sat in the room with them and it will also trick your mind into thinking you already know them :)
21 - Be yourself. Make sure you at least have some understanding to what  the company do that you're interviewing at. As somebody who now interviews  it's disheartening (and off-putting) if a candidate turns up and has no  knowledge of the company they're looking to work for.
“Make sure you have knowledge outside of your degree”
5 - Research around the area you're applying to and make sure you have a good breadth of knowledge.
13 - Many employers like to ask situational questions (ones that start "what would you do if...") as well as find out more about what you have put on your CV. Be prepared to answer both and also ensure you can clearly articulate what is different about you.
Information about what will be in the interview
3 - Again, this depends on your career choice! I can only give my advice from my career in Web Development. If you're just starting out as a junior - remember that's what you are applying for. It is not expected that junior developers know everything when they first join the team, they will be given suitable guidance and help in order to develop into the role - so don't panic if you don't feel that you know absolutely everything, nobody does. All of the interviews I have been to have been nothing more than a 30-60 minute chat, generally demonstrating what I can do and perhaps sometimes answering a few technical questions. People always expect that it's going to be this really horrible, formal thing but in actual fact its just a guage to see if you can do the job on some level and if you'll fit in with the team dynamics. Just be aware that some programming roles will offer some kind of "test" or programming challenge to assess your current programming ability. Most of which can be completed in your own time - just don't spend longer than necessary :)
18 - Bring some personality. Read some online guides for how-to interview well. Prepare some intelligent questions of your own. Use Linked-In if possible to look up the people interviewing you, and the senior management team, and check out the company website and have a basic understanding of their products and the marketing around them. If you’re diligent also check out any forums to see the feedback and general perception of their services/products. Don’t post a question on the same forums asking about the company however, assume they will do the same to you. In which case make sure your social media pages are appropriate or hidden. It doesn’t hurt to start a blog in a specific area if you have a specific interest in working for/with a company/technology. Lastly, you can image the types of questions that are going to be asked from your own background and interests, so prepare something ahead of time, also google standard interview questions….a number of interviews will try some pretty standard pop-psychology questions just to see how you react under pressure.
