Oh oh story prompt!
"After a rather long day, two very tired hedgehogs find out they've been sharing a secret resting place"? Hope that makes sense, just two hedgehogs being like "oi this is my isolated sleepy spot-" LMAO
Sonic was bone-tired.
Eggman had really pulled out all the stops today. Droves upon droves of badniks, all powered by a chaos emerald that the doctor had somehow managed to get his mitts on. Then, if that weren't bad enough, he'd even brought Metal Sonic along with him, if only to add insult to injury.
It was all over now, at least: with the help of his friends - Tails' smarts, Amy's perseverance, Knuckles' strength, and Rouge's cunning, the doctor's evil plot had been sufficiently brought to an end, one destroyed badnik at a time.
"Wasn't expecting you to join the party, Rouge," Sonic had told the bat, smiling at her as she dusted off her immaculate clothes.
"Well, let's just say I happened to be in the area." Rouge's replies always seemed to be intentionally cryptic, Sonic noticed. "And besides, any chance I have to knock that rotten doctor down a peg, I'll take. He's a nuisance for all of us."
"Hah! Can't argue with that." Sonic rubbed his arm, and then reached out a hand just as Rouge was about to fly off. "Wait! I - can I ask you something?"
"Sure, Big Blue." There was a twinkle in the bat's eye, one that Sonic only usually saw when Shadow was nearby. Speaking of which…
"How come Shadow wasn't with you? Is he… on a mission?"
"That's right." Rouge's eyes seemed to glitter even more, as though she could sense his disappointment. "Very important business. I'm sure you understand."
Sonic offered a smile. "Yeah."
"Why, were you hoping to see him?"
"What - I - no! I was just curious! You two are friends, aren't you?"
Rouge's hand found a place on her hip, pinning Sonic in place with a gaze that seemed to be able to find anything it ever searched for. She had always been so incredibly perceptive - especially when it came to Sonic's little… crush.
"Of course," she said, her voice smooth and nonchalant. It made his fur stand on end. "Don't sweat it, hon. I'm sure you'll get to see him soon."
Before Sonic could babble out a flustered reply, Rouge took off at last, disappearing into the darkening sky.
Wow, was it that late already? Despite his frazzled nerves, Sonic found himself feeling tired, mouth stretching open into a generous yawn. Well, since Eggman had been taken care of, surely it couldn't hurt to grab some shut-eye.
Luckily for him, he knew a nice little spot. Somewhere quiet and undisturbed. And it wasn't too far from here - at least, not at the speed he was capable of.
And so, with a final wave goodbye to his friends, Sonic vanished up the mountain in a cobalt blue streak.
---
Someone was in his spot.
Even from up on the bank, Sonic couldn't miss the orange glow coming from the cabin windows, nor the smoke billowing from the chimney. It was getting darker still, and somebody had stumbled upon this place and made it their own.
But who?
This old cabin had been left, seemingly abandoned, up on a mountain. Surely nobody could find it under normal means. Sonic himself only found the cabin because he'd decided to take a detour from his usual running path, winding up the mountain until he was pushing open the door to look inside.
It was a nice little cabin, too. Nobody came back to claim it so Sonic decided to… well, make it his own little place, so to speak. He didn't have any qualms sleeping outside, but sometimes curling up in front of a warm fire was nice too. So what if he wanted to indulge himself from time to time? He thought he'd earned that at least, saving the world as often as he did, and as he continued to do.
So to discover that someone else had snuck in while he'd been distracted made him a little annoyed.
He didn't want to just barge in the front door - after all, if they were capable of scaling the mountain, Sonic couldn't underestimate whoever was inside. Was it Eggman? Had he found the cabin somehow? Had he followed Sonic there and set up a trap?
Whatever the case, Sonic had to be ready for a fight.
He approached as quietly as he could; stealth was never his forte, but if he wanted the upper hand, then he needed to be delicate. After all, he'd hate for his beloved cabin to get destroyed in an altercation. Maybe he could take down the intruder swiftly, or find some way to lure them out before they fought. Keeping the cabin intact was his main priority.
Sonic went to peek through the window, but he grit his teeth with some irritation to find that the curtains had been pulled shut. Damn. What now? The front door lacked any windows or mail slot. How could he get inside without being noticed?
He saw it then. On the second floor. An open window.
Hah! Had the intruder completely forgotten to close it? Sonic took a couple steps back and gauged the distance - he could probably climb up. A running jump would be too noisy. So, giving himself a moment to stretch, he braced himself against the bricks and began to ascend.
His fingers hurt, digging deep in the crevices between each brick, but he pushed on. The window was inches away now. He pushed himself up, brushing the windowsill with his fingertips and hoisting his body up. Slowly, silently, Sonic climbed through and into the bathroom.
It was dark. But it was also empty. A good sign. That meant he hadn't been caught yet. He closed the bathroom window behind him before he tried the door handle, opening it as carefully as he could to avoid making any sound. It was so uncharacteristic of Sonic to move this slowly, but he tried his best, because his favourite sleeping spot was in jeopardy.
He tiptoed along the carpet at the top of the stairs and peeked down over the railing to see if he could spot anything. The glow was brighter from here and he realised it was coming from the hearth in the living room. Someone was using up all the firewood! Oh, the nerve. If they weren't dangerous, maybe Sonic could convince them to leave.
The first step creaked under his weight and Sonic froze, expecting alarm bells to sound off, expecting a trap to spring, expecting badniks to swarm him. Anything. Instead, nothing happened. The fire crackled. The peace continued on.
OK, well, he wasn't in trouble yet. He still had time to figure out who the intruder was. Taking a deep breath, Sonic made his way down the rest of the stairs. He was standing near the doorway now. The living room was just around the corner. He could see the shadows of a figure dancing on the opposite wall; whoever they were, they'd made themselves pretty comfortable on the sofa.
Sonic squinted his eyes. As he focused harder, he realised that the silhouette looked vaguely familiar. They weren't moving - were they asleep? - but he couldn't deny that the stranger seemed to have quills that turned upwards at the end in a way that was so distinct, so unnatural for a hedgehog to have.
He inhaled again, and he caught the unmistakable scent of lavender in his nose.
It couldn't be.
He turned the corner at last.
"You!"
Shadow jolted upright, the book he'd apparently been engrossed in falling from his lap and thudding against the floor. His red eyes met Sonic's, burning brightly against the glow of the fire.
"What the hell are you doing here?" Shadow asked.
"What am I - what are you?" Sonic cried, incredulous. "This is my cabin!"
Shadow removed the green woollen blanket from his legs to stand up. "Don't be ridiculous. I found this cabin months ago."
Sonic balked. That couldn't be right. He found the cabin. He'd been coming here regularly for weeks - months, even!
"I don't understand. This is my favourite sleeping spot. I didn't think anyone else knew about this place…"
Shadow retrieved his book from the floor, dog-earing the page he was on and sitting back down. "That makes two of us."
"So, spill. How often do you come here?"
"Couple times a month. When I have a moment."
"So do I." Sonic stepped closer. "Listen, I had to deal with Eggman today. Rouge was there. Where were you?"
"Elsewhere," was all Shadow answered.
Sonic clenched his fists. He was always happy to see Shadow, although he'd never admit it, but he wasn't happy about this new discovery.
"Alright, well. I'm pretty tired, and I wanted to rest here tonight…"
Shadow stared at him. "So?"
"So!" Sonic fumbled, gesturing vaguely to the door. "Leave! So I can relax."
Instead of leaving, Shadow tilted his head to the side. "Why don't we both just stay here? I'm willing to tolerate it, if it's all the same to you."
Sonic's mouth snapped shut. His face was warm, and not because of the fire. Absolutely not. There's no way he could relax with Shadow, of all people, around. Especially not in such a… comfortable, domestic setting. It was too much for him. He'd rather run a hundred laps through a blizzard than cope with his stupid feelings.
A hand patted the empty spot on the sofa, breaking Sonic from his thoughts.
"Sit. I want to finish this chapter."
Sonic frowned, willing his heart to stop racing. He eased himself onto the sofa next to Shadow, staring straight ahead. For some reason he was afraid to look. Shadow was much too close.
"Rouge recommended this book to me." Shadow's voice was soft and deep and it all but made Sonic nearly jump out of his pelt. "I'm about halfway through now. She expects to hear my thoughts on it."
"Oh?" Sonic dared to look, then, if only because Shadow's attention was directed down at the book in his hands. He scooted closer, just a fraction, to see what the writing was like. The scent of lavender was much stronger now. "Is it good?"
"I'm enjoying it," Shadow admitted. Sonic caught the ghost of a smile on Shadow's face and decided that he liked it, and would very much like to see Shadow smile more often.
"Good," was all Sonic could say, quite hopelessly, as he willed himself to relax into the sofa cushion. His eyes drifted closed for just a moment, exhaustion setting in as he basked in the soothing warmth.
"Let's agree that this cabin is off-limits for fighting," Shadow said. His eyes didn't leave the book, but Sonic wasn't so sure he was actually reading anymore. "It's too nice to ruin."
Sonic's mouth suddenly felt dry, but he worked hard to get his voice back. "Y-yeah," he stammered out, feeling like an idiot. "I don't think either of us will wanna give it up, right?"
Shadow hummed in agreement. "We'll just have to compromise. That means sharing."
"Sharing," Sonic confirmed. Despite himself, he found himself smiling at the idea.
Basked in the firelight, he snuggled just a bit closer to Shadow, whose body was as warm as the fire. He could probably get used to this, he reckoned.
Before he knew it, Sonic fell asleep to the scent of lavender and an arm around his waist.

a litte headcanon i thought a few munites ago
sonic is the ulitmate photobomber, there has been millions of photos across the planet with blue streak behind them and there no way to plan for it, he is fast enough to pose for the picture and be gone before you even turn around, there a ton of then
Imagine Sonic and eggman beating the life outta of each other in background of your family photo
he will never apologize for this
Vdrgghghbghb YES! This is so real I love this headcanon
I think I made a HC like this one with Sonic Wachowski in some other post but yes Love me Sonic who photobombs every picture
Remember that Sonic X episode where Sam challenged him to a race and it appeared to be a tie so they checked the slowed recording frame by frame? Yeah, he does stuff like that on the regular. This is what happens when a silly teenager who loves having fun is given super speed
He'll infiltrate Eggman's base and make faces at every security camera while running past them. They're a little secret 'gift' if Eggman or Metal ever reviews any footage
He'll be like a little cryptid ghost urban legend in places where he never frequents but shows up in the group photos of teams like them unsolved mystery pics where a person who's supposed to be dead is in picture taken after their death kinda deal but like, more cool than scary.
What is Sonic the hedgehog doing at our wedding? Why is he amongst the graduates? Etc. Most of the people don't mind getting photo bombed by Sonic, they are instead excited.
The people who'd actually be most annoyed are his closest friends because his bombs in such pictures are so hilarious and half the time his expressions are those of a little menace enjoying causing them misery. (He's reclining over the Master Emerald in the picture Knuckles had asked Tails to be taken for commemoration and record. He's grinning evilly from behind with mints in hand as Tails captured some images for his video's thumbnails. He's blowing a raspberry at Abraham Tower in the official picture of Team Dark receiving some award. He's playing dead in the background of his friends' selfies, he's moonwalking on Tails' live stream and disappears before Tails reaches the lounge, he teams up with Charmy to ruin Espio's timer photos of cool ninja poses, he shows up in one of the images of Amy's picnic with half the deserts gone and stuffed mouth while giving a deer in headlights look at the camera, she turns around after checking the photo and nothing is there but half the deserts are gone. )

Bitter Blood [A HungryHero.EXE fanfic]
Tumblr media
“I can't wait to gut you out.”
(CW: descriptions of blood, gore, violence, bad language, and death)
A day used to feel short. Days that, even if it were cloudy and dull, would feel as cheery and sunny as always. Short days. Hours that felt like seconds. Today those hours felt agonizing. The cloudy sky was cold. The air, suffocating. Even a minute now felt like weeks. These emerald hills, this world, it didnt feel the same anymore. Not without him.
Why…. Why was he there? Why was he right there? Right there in the line of fire! He didn’t need to be here! Why was he there? Was it because of him? Because hes a canibal? Maybe he thought that he needed to help protect his image and thats why he came. Oh god. No. No it could’nt have been his fault! No! No No its not his fault! Its not his fault! Its- .... Shadow... Its Shadow’s fault. Its all his fucking fault!
That god damn dark and brooding prick! He couldn’t keep his mouth shut. He had to say something. Had to open his fucking mouth! He made him doubt. Doubt everything that he had thought about him. Made him think that he wasnt the best older brother hes ever had. But, Tails was always independent, even if at times he had to rely on his friends. It was expected, he was a kid. But out of everything, everything that that little fox had went through... It wasn't him, he wasn't thinking clearly, that fucking mutant made him confused. Whatever he said to him, it didn't matter, he implanted that stupid little thought in his head! And now he's gone... Because of him.
“.... I think its time to pay ol’ dark and handsome a visit”
———————
A black hedgehog stood atop one of the many loops of green hills. The naturally generated loops ironically always seemed just the slightest bit unnatural. Even so, they made great viewpoints when sat atop their grassy caps. Shadow, of course, knew this, he would always take advantage of their beautiful viewpoints when he wasn’t in the cities. It, accompanied by the quietness of the stripped fields and checkered soil, waved a calmness over the hedgehog. He wished Maria could see this place the most...
His thick fur shot up, a feeling of dread overwhelmed his body. He was not alone. Something was coming for him. His eyes darted around the area, his ears scanning the area for any noticable sound. His own breath and heartbeat felll silent to his ears. All that was around him was the sound of the wind and.... The dark hedgehog moved to the side just enough for a blurry blue streak to whizz by, barely grazing his nose. It created a sizable crater in the ground once it landed. The force it must've had to create that would have killed him almost instantly if they had collided.
Shadow watched as a blue hedgehog lifted itself from the rubble, coming out with no more than a few scratches and missaligned quills. It was Sonic. The hedgehog’s green eyes starred daggers into his own. A silver object glistened from him through the dust of the crater, A weapon. He waisted no time, Shadow dashed away, over the green hills, as fast as his air shoes could take him. He had no issue with matching or even surpassing Sonic’s speed at times, but something about that stare, how much velocity he needed to hite the ground with that much force…
Shadow ducked as the blue hedgehog came from his path with the intent to kill, narrowly missing his skin. He was in front of him? How was that possible? How fast was this hedgehog? Shadow watched as Sonic skidded and pivoted on a dime, using his momentum to come right towards him. He was always more skilled at his pacing than he was. A wobbly misstep threw Shadow off ballance, and sent the two hedgehogs crashing into each other, sent spinning and tumbling down the barred hills. At the bottom, the black hedgehog kicked the blue killer off forcefully, throwing him to the ground a few feet ahead. The two were quick to hop to their feet and back into battle. Shadow took a fighting stance.
“Enough! Stop this, Sonic!” Shadow shouted “Nothing good will come out of anything that you are trying to do!”
“Yeah, that’s where your wrong, Shadow” Sonic said “something good will come out of this… for me!” The hedgehog pulled out the decently sized blade he had kept hidden. He stared at Shadow, holding it with the intent to kill
“You plan to kill me? Have you forgotten who I am?” Shadow raised his fists at the blue hedgehog before him, he barred his sharp fangs “I AM the Ultimate Lifeform! I was built to be an ultimate weapon, but chose to protect others instead! I AM made of love! I AM the true hero of mobius! And I am not afraid to kill you to protect the world i voued fifty years ago, Sonic the Hedgehog!”
Admittedly Sonic was hurt by shadows comment, but it didn’t break him. He rolled his eyes “yeah, but i think it’s gonna be a lot harder without this thing” he outheald a green gem that glistened the same colour as his eyes. It was a chaos emerald.
Shadow patted his sides “what? How did you-!”
“You see, here’s the thing Shad. Of the whole time we’ve known eachother, i want you to know… I was holding back!”
Instantly the speedy hedgehog was gone, and just as quickly Shadow’s guard was up. If Sonic really wanted to kill him, he needed to be close. It didn’t seem like he was using chaos control, if he was then he could pick up on his chaos signature. Given enough foccus and it would be easy to track him. No, He could just faintly hear his footsteps, smell that sickly sweet iron smell that accompanied him. He was fast, faster than anything shadow had witnessed. he seemed as fast as super sonic. But he hasnt used the chaos emeralds. Has he really been holding back this whole-
A knife held sloppily, but with enough force could kill, grazed Shadows cheek as he narrowly doged another one of the blue hedgehogs attacks. “He’s to fast!” Shadow panicked eternally. He barely dodged another quick strike from the blade, it grazed off a few hairs of his fur. “I need chaos control if I can get a chance to-“
Shadow was spun like a corkscrew in the air and slammed hard into the grassy ground with a deafening thud. His ears rang from the force, he could have sworn he had a cuncussion. The blade plunged into his side and dragged across his stomach. A loud and horrid scream came out of him as Sonics eyes carefully watched the blade glide across his dark body, now stained with his green blood. He tried to move his foot up to push the hedgehog away, but it was quickly slammed back down to the ground with enough force that it should’ve broken it.
“FUCK!” Shadow yelped at his injuries. He bared his teeth and cursed at Sonic. “You’re fucking derranged-!”
Sonic grabbed him by his chin and brought him close to his own face “AND YOU’RE A FUCKING MURDERER!” He screamed.
“I didn’t do anything!”
“THEN WHY IS MY BROTHER DEAD, SHADOW? EXPLAIN THAT!”
“I-it was his choice! He could have left at any time! He could have not been there at all! But he came and he stayed because HE WANTED TO STOP YOU!”
A blade pierced through shadows hand. “DONT TALK TO ME LIKE YOU KNOW HOW HE IS! YOU WERENT THE ONE TO RAISE HIM!”
“AND YOU DO? YOU JUST CANT ADMIT THAT HE WOULD EVER BETRAY YOU-“ shadow screamed again, the knife turned in his palm.
“I’VE BEEN WITH HIM HIS WHOLE LIFE! SINCE HE WAS THREE GOD DAMN YEARS OLD! I HAVE BEEN THERE EVERY TIME HES NEEDED ME! I HAVE DONE MORE FOR HIM THAN YOU COULD EVER DO!” Sonics grip tightened on shadows face. His sharp fangs barred, all to the back hedgehog. “AND YOU! YOU JUST COULDNT KEEP YOUR STUPID PRETTY FACE QUIET LIKE USUAL, YOU HAD TO SAY SOMETHING! HAD TO MAKE HIM DOUBT ME!”
Shadow whimpered. He glowered at the cannibal “And so what if I did? None of this would have happened if you had just learned some self control! All of it... It’s all your fau- AUGH!”
Sonic plunged the knife into shadows shoulder, digging it in all the way to the handle “WHO WAS THE ONE WHO IMPLANTED THAT THOUGHT OF DOUBT IN HIM? WHO WAS THE ONE WHO USED CHAOS SPEAR? WHO WAS THE ONE WHO CAUSED THAT SCAFFOLDING TO FALL OVER? TELL ME SHADOW! TELL ME!”
Shadow shut his eyes and inhaled. The throbbing pain in his hand, his foot, his shoulder, his stomach, it all made him want to throw up. He shook as he glared at Sonic. “He was there because of you…”
—————-
The cannibal on top of him stared, stared directly into his eyes. His expression looked almost deprived of any emotion, but he was furrious. furrious and oh, so hungry. He craved for this black hegdehog since the day they met again in that cave. The blade slowly pulled out of the hedgehogs shoulder, dropping to his side. He leaned in close, close enough for Shadow to see his enlarged pupils and smell that scent that was sickenly sweet and iron-like from those who were his last meal.
“I can’t wait to gut you out.” The words came out of him were bone chillingly calm. Not even a cent of attitude or emotion that usually accompanied his tone. He was calm, those words were calm, but they were drenched in crazed anger.
He slowly raised the knife, preparing to strike one last time. Shadow needed to act now if he wanted to survive. A hit in the right place, with enough force, it will kill him. He didn’t have much chaos energy to use, and the adrenaline was waring off faster… fuck it. In a flash, the black hedgehog teleported away. Not far though, he could only make it a couple of miles. He gasped and clutched his gaping wound. Luckily the cut didn’t go to far deep, but still, he was pouring out blood. He held as tight as he could to lessen the bloodflow.
His vision was unfocused, he was becoming lightheaded from the blood loss, he needed help, but he needed to recharge his energy, and with his injuries it would take him longer than ever. Still, hes going to keep going. Shadow clutched his wound tighter as he slowly made his way across the hills that were now stained with his blood, whining as every step with his foot felt like needles shooting into his skin. Before, they could have beat eachother to a stand still, now... He looked back to see if Sonic knew where he went, chaos snap was not the best at hiding a signature. And perhaps, maybe Sonic did, as shadow saw that blue cannibal stare in his direction. or maybe at him.
“I’ll see you later, Shadow the Hedgehog” his voice echoed through the hills.
Shadow panted, a knot appeared in his throat. He gritted his teeth. “Go to hell, bastard.”

Could you elaborate a bit more on how Shadow & Maria's first meeting with Sonic went? And what would be, say, the first time Shadow left Maria's side to do his own thing? (Possibly with Sonic????? 👀👀) I'd imagine that would give him lots of trouble if Gerald is still around which I doubt but I digress—
The Au is super cute and I love the concept! Also your art is just lovely and so good 💖
Hi there!!
So Sonic meets them when he sees Shadow out in public one day, and unfortunately for Shadow his back is facing a wall, so Sonic can’t read it and immediately strikes up a conversation, startling him.
He’s waiting outside a public bathroom for Maria, just has arms crossed and staring ahead and Sonic walks up and starts talking to him and he’s pulled out of his zoning out, and initially he’s immediately resistant, because distractions.
“I haven’t seen you around these parts before. I’m Sonic! What’s your—“
“You’re distracting me. Please don’t talk to me.”
“Huh? It doesn’t look like you’re doing anything.”
“I’m working. She’ll be back soon, so scram.”
“Who’s—“
And then Maria comes skipping out and looking shocked between the two bc Shadow doesn’t ever address others like “Omg who is this?”
And Shadow just scowls and grabs her hand. “Nobody. The Professor won’t appreciate tardiness.” And then, nodding at Sonic. “Sonic. This will be the last time we see each other. Come, Maria.”
And he pulls her away and Sonic is just as confused as he is charmed BDNDNSKDNFN. Maria allows Shadow to pull her along, shooting an apologetic little smile back at the strange blue hedgehog. She’s like, “Aw come on, don’t you want to make a friend?” and Shadow is just immediately like “No.”
Sonic ‘conveniently’ runs into them a second time while they’re out and about another day, and Maria has the wonderful idea to suggest Sonic joining them. Shadow is cold and standoffish at first, but only Maria can tell he’s…slightly interested. He can tell Sonic has something of an ‘otherness’ about him like himself. It helps Sonic doesn’t condescend him about his work as a service Mobian, and is kinda fascinated by them instead.
That’s how Sonic worms his way into their lives initially, and when he shows off his speed to Shadow, Shadow’s interest is Fully Piqued. He’s never gotten to test his own limits in that way, with something as superfluous and meaninglessly fun as a race. And the fact that Sonic immediately hits it off with Maria is basically brownie points from someone like Shadow.
The first time they hang out alone: Sonic and Maria convince Shadow to go just him and Sonic to an arcade; Maria is just across the street, Shadow, she’ll be fine! And it’s the first time Shadow’s ever been alone with someone besides Maria since he was a baby, so it’s very anxiety inducing, and Shadow relies on Sonic to navigate him through most social situations and cues that fly over Shadow’s head. But he’s…having fun. Sonic brings out a competitive streak in himself he never knew existed. For all intents and purposes, it’s like a date, but neither of them intend it to be, nor does Shadow have the emotional wherewithal to interpret it as a date at this point.
(Things go south when Maria’s energy unexpectedly dips and she collapses when she comes into the arcade to come fetch him. Shadow’s fun goes out the window, and he’s immediately pulling her into his arms, trying desperately not to panic. Maria hasn’t collapsed like this since she was a child, and he was a baby, and he blames himself for his negligence. There’s a brief falling out between him and Sonic after; he’s angry, but it’s mostly at himself. He allowed himself to be distracted and Maria suffered for it. It doesn’t matter that Maria reassures him it was just a freak thing, it shouldn’t stop Shadow from pursuing a friendship, and she feels terrible that it drives a wedge between the hedgehogs. It won’t last long, though. Sonic will come back around, and Shadow can’t so easily push him away again now that he’s known the warmth of Sonic’s presence.)
If you’re wondering how Gerald feels about this— they don’t tell him. Gerald would definitely NOT approve of Sonic or his involvement, for exactly the reason described above. Thankfully no more freak accidents happen like that again, and it takes a long time for Shadow to be comfortable parting from her for any amount of time. One thing does give him peace of mind however! And that’s when Maria convinces Gerald to buy Shadow his own cell phone <3 Perfect for keeping in contact with Gerald, Maria, and 1 other contact in it, heheh.
Anyway thank you so much for this ask! I have a little wip of this initial scene for you guys.

Is that blue streak actually sonic running? He DOES have super speed? So does the rest of the cast have their regular powers too? Or is it just ...cyber-city stuff?
The blue streak is Sonic running, yes! The other cast - Shamdow, at least - do not have powers.

Sonadow Moments in Sonic Cyber Revolution (The Ultimate Lifeform Arc)
Tumblr media
[...]
Shadow was standing on the top of the arch-like structure over Cosmo Bridge, arms folded on his chest, the roadway below him being littered with the beaten and flickering bodies of the Irregular Hunters that had found him, most of them near deletion and unable to call for back-up. It was surprising just how fast and easy it was to take all of them out, which spoke a lot about Shadow's power… or the Irregular Hunters' incompetence. Admittedly, Shadow didn't even know that there were ARNavs who were hunting down the Irregulars. Not that it mattered in the long run.
I will get my revenge.
His eyes narrowed when he saw a blue streak of light appearing on the bridge and skidding to a halt, revealing itself to be a blue hedgehog ARNav. The two hedgehogs locked eyes with each other for a moment, with the blue one calling someone before turning back to Shadow.
''So, you're the one who beat up the Hunters, you fake hedgehog,'' Sonic said, clenching his fist. Shadow leapt off the structure he was standing on, doing a frontflip and using his air shoes to cushion his fall as he landed in front of Sonic, his arms folded on his chest. Sonic rolled his eyes, looking unimpressed as he muttered, ''Show-off.''
''It is their own fault that they couldn't put up a decent battle,'' Shadow replied, taking a battle stance. He had figured that the blue hedgehog was just another challenger he could easily take down. ''You shall join them.''
''We'll see!'' Sonic leapt backwards when Shadow dashed towards him, then quickly used his super speed to charge at his opponent. However, the black-furred hedgehog vanished suddenly, appearing right behind Sonic and kicking him away. Sonic hit the ground hard, shaking his head and getting up. ''Okay, not bad. I see you've got a couple of tricks up in your glove, but you're not the only one,'' he said as he turned towards his foe. Shadow braced himself for Sonic's next attack. Sonic dashed towards his opponent, with the black-furred hedgehog anticipating the attack and using his air shoes to dash towards Sonic. However, in the last moment, Sonic dodged the attack, curling up into a ball and spin-dashing at Shadow, knocking him down. As Sonic landed back on his feet, Shadow frowned, observing his foe as he got up.
''Hmph,'' he said, an amused smirk on his expression. ''I thought I would take you down in one hit, but it seems like you're more resilient than I thought. What is your name?''
''I'm Sonic the Hedgehog,'' Sonic replied. ''You?''
''Shadow the Hedgehog,'' Shadow responded, clenching his fist as he glared at his opponent. ''I am the Ultimate Life Form!''
''Ultimate Life Form or not, you're going down, pal!'' Sonic ran towards Shadow, performing another spin dash. Unfortunately for him, Shadow decided to counter him with the same move, with the two hedgehogs ending up clashing in a race across the bridge several times, each trying to knock the other away. Sonic leapt back, with Shadow ramming into him, knocking him away. He then suddenly teleported away, kicking Sonic in the back, sending him flying. Then, he teleported again, punching him, with Sonic landing on the ground hard.
''Is that really everything you've got?'' Shadow asked, his eyes narrowing as he observed Sonic trying to get up. ''Pathetic.''
Without answering, Sonic suddenly got up and rammed him, knocking Shadow away. However, Shadow kept his balance thanks to his air shoes, only to get spin-dashed from the back, with Sonic then going for another attack from the side. However, Shadow teleported again, appearing above Sonic and knocking him down. Despite being badly bruised, Sonic slowly got up, gazing at Shadow, who was standing on the guardrail and looking down at Sonic, a smug smirk on his expression.
''Sonic!'' Sonic perked up, turning around and seeing Lucas joining him at the battlefield. ''Are you okay?''
''I'll be fine,'' Sonic replied, glancing back at Shadow. ''I'm not beaten yet!''
Shadow remained silent, his eyes narrowing as he observed the two. The reason why he was at Neos City was because he had a mission to complete, but he got distracted by the Irregular Hunters and decided to dispatch of those who stood in his way. So far, only Sonic had actually proved to be a challenge, even he couldn't match him in raw power. Shadow figured that he could just end the blue hedgehog right there and then, but then decided against it.
''I don't have time for these games; farewell!''
Sonic and Lucas stared at the spot from which Shadow had vanished, with Sonic breathing heavily as he muttered, ''Shadow… what is he?'' He turned to Lucas, who gave him a troubled look, as if wanting to answer but knowing that the answer would not help them much. Sonic's ears then twitched as he heard sirens in the distance. ''These guys really have bad timing.''
[...]
With that said, he ran off towards CyExLabs, having reached the place in a few seconds. However, even those seconds didn't matter, as Shadow had already defeated the Irregular Hunters, skating down the street, away from the CyExLabs. Sonic knew that, if Shadow teleported now, they would lose him for good. As for how he'd get Shadow to follow him, he wasn't completely sure.
Okay, this is what I'll do. Step one: Light taunting. Step two: I have no idea. Sonic hoped that this would work, preparing for the worst as he called out, ''Hey!''
Shadow turned around, visibly surprised to see Sonic here. ''You again…''
''I've found you, Faker!'' Sonic walked up to Shadow, pleased that he got the latter's attention.
''Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here,'' Shadow replied. Admittedly, he was both annoyed and intrigued by Sonic's sudden appearance. ''You're comparing yourself to me? Ha! You're not even good enough to be my fake!''
''I'll make you eat those words!''
Sonic achieved exactly what he wanted, grinning when he saw Shadow charging at him. Instead of attacking back, he ran off towards the meeting spot he and Lucas had agreed on.
''Coward!'' Sonic heard Shadow yell behind him, but ignored it. It would take him just a few seconds until they arrived at a secure spot. He then entered a narrow street, dashing from wall to wall and jumping over a fence. Fortunately, Shadow was still following him without question.
''I thought you'd be able to keep up with me, Faker!'' Sonic taunted him. ''Looks like you're not as fast as I thought.''
''I'll show you…'' Shadow frowned, not even registering that Sonic had slowed down when they reached an underpass at an area devoid of people. He passed Sonic, then stopped, turning towards the blue hedgehog. His eyes narrowed. ''What is the meaning of this?''
''I want to talk to you,'' Sonic said in a calm tone. Shadow stepped back, glaring at the latter. ''You've been causing trouble among the Hunters, but I figured that you were just defending yourself, since you're an Irregular and all that. So, why are you here?''
''That is none of your business,'' Shadow responded curtly.
''It is if you are going to continue causing trouble for me, my friends and everyone else in Neos City,'' Sonic replied.
''Hmph, Neos City will soon be no more,'' Shadow responded. Sonic's smile vanished and he frowned as he observed Shadow.
''What are you talking about?'' he asked. ''I don't understand. Is Neos City in danger?''
''Neos City… All of the humans…'' Shadow started, slowly opening and closing his fist. His tone was calm, almost devoid of any emotion. ''I'll be the judge of their sins.''
Sonic felt a chill flowing down his spine as he saw Shadow's demeanor changing. ''What… are you…?''
''So, don't get in my way!'' Shadow yelled, summoning an orange and crimson bolt of energy, throwing it at Sonic.
''Wha-?!'' Sonic dodged Shadow's attack, with Shadow suddenly charging at him. Sonic crouched, managing to throw Shadow backwards, but the black-furred hedgehog landed on his feet, his air shoes keeping him in balance.
''Sonic!'' Both Sonic and Shadow looked up to the top of the underpass, with Lucas flying down on his hoverboard, stopping next to his partner. He and Sonic exchanged a nod, both turning towards Shadow, with Lucas adding, ''I had hoped that Sonic would be able to talk to you, but if you refuse to explain anything to us, then we'll have to fight you.''
''I will welcome any challenge,'' Shadow responded. Lucas turned to Sonic.
''Ready?''
''Yeah! Let's do it!''
Both extended their hands, with Sonic sensing Lucas' BioEnergy. They didn't even make any physical contact this time, yet a blue orb of energy appeared between them, with both exclaiming, ''Chaos Surge!''
To Shadow's shock, both absorbed the energy orb, both gaining an aura, with electric sparks surrounding their bodies. His eyes narrowed and he gritted his teeth as he realized what was going on, his voice only a whisper, ''How… dare you…?''
''Time for Round 2, Shadow!'' Sonic said, clenching his fists and taking a battle stance. Lucas stepped away, despite the overflowing energy he felt. He still couldn't control his super speed properly and he felt that it would be better to leave this one to Sonic. Not to mention, if he exhausted himself, then Sonic would lose power as well.
''Why… are you… using that…?'' Shadow continued, suddenly overwhelmed by a memory of the past. He could hear Touka screaming in fear; he could remember absorbing her BioEnergy; he could see her lying on the ground, motionless. Shadow felt a tranquil fury surging through his body, the sense of rage overwhelming him. He clenched his fist, summoning another bolt of energy. ''Unforgivable!''
Sonic dodged the bolt of energy Shadow had fired, stunning the latter with his increased speed. He suddenly appeared right in front of Shadow, kicking the latter into the gut. Shadow fell on one knee, blue sparks of electricity enveloping his body and paralyzing his limbs. Sonic stepped in front of him.
''Why are you so upset?'' Sonic asked. ''If we could just talk– agh!''
Sonic managed to dodge another bolt of energy, but Shadow suddenly teleported behind him, kicking him in the back of the head, his attack boosted by his air shoes. Sonic flew, hitting the pavement hard, but then got up again, just in time to dodge another bolt of energy.
''How dare you to utilize BioEnergy this way? Do you have a death wish?!'' Shadow yelled at both Sonic and Lucas.
''Wait, so you know about this?'' Lucas asked. Shadow gritted his teeth, feeling that he revealed a bit too much. After all, no one was supposed to know what BioEnergy could really do, especially in the hands of an Irregular.
''It doesn't matter,'' Shadow told the two. ''None of it will matter once I'm done with Neos City and everyone inhabiting it.''
''Wait!'' Lucas yelled, but it was too late. Shadow had already teleported away.
''What should we do now? He's gone!'' Sonic said, feeling the Chaos Surge power-up fading away. ''It sounded like he wants to take revenge on Neos City or something like that.''
[...]
Sonic ran through the facility, searching for Shadow. He knew that Lucas was right and that their priority was to find the black hedgehog and learn what exactly he was up to. He thought about his earlier encounter with Shadow, remembering how upset the latter was after he saw him and Lucas performing Chaos Surge. He had to wonder what exactly Shadow had experienced to make him react like that. Sonic knew that something happened, something really bad, and that Shadow needed help rather than a fight. Still, if the latter chose violence as a response, Sonic wasn't afraid to fight back.
Now, where might a black hedgehog with a cryptic reasoning for his actions be? Sonic eventually skidded to a halt in a hallway, looking at the doors. He crackled his knuckles. Okay, we shall do it the old-fashioned way, aka relying on pure luck. Sure, speed may be one of my best qualities, along with my handsomeness and charm, but as Lucas had told me once, I miss things if I don't slow down. So, let's see if my gut feeling is going to help me. Sonic walked down the hallway, randomly opening doors in hopes of finding Shadow in one of the many rooms. So far, he hadn't much luck with the first few, his ears lowering in disappointment when he opened another one that was empty.
Sonic then stepped back into the hallway, taking a deep breath and trying to figure out which door he should open next. What if Shadow wasn't here? Maybe they had missed him, or he didn't return yet. Sonic kept walking, looking from one door to another, until he eventually came across one that, at least to him, looked important. Com'n, luck! Don't disappoint me again!
His eyes widened in surprise as he entered the room, finding himself surrounded by computers. At one of them was Shadow, too focused on the monitor before him to notice Sonic's presence. Sonic, on the other hand, was relieved that he had finally found him.
''Shadow!''
Shadow suddenly turned around when he heard Sonic calling his name. His eyes widened in shock, his quills bristled, questioning how in the world Sonic had managed to find him, let alone figure out which room he was in. Did he place a tracker on him? No, that wasn't possible.
''What are you doing here, Hedgehog? How did you find me?'' Shadow asked in a demanding tone.
''Well, you know how they say; persistence pays off,'' Sonic replied, shrugging. ''You weren't easy to track down, especially once you teleported away, but I am glad that I had found you. We still haven't finished our conversation, and I have a bunch of new questions for you.''
''If you know what is good for you, you would leave me alone,'' Shadow replied, briefly glancing back at the monitor. He was almost done with the program that would turn Neos City to ashes, but Sonic had just arrived before he could type in the final code. However, when he looked back at the blue hedgehog, it appeared that he had no clue what Shadow was up to.
''Unfortunately for you, this is just how I roll. You still owe me an explanation,'' Sonic said, observing Shadow as the latter sat back at the computer, typing something on the keyboard, now a little calmer. ''What was that talk about how you'll be the one to judge Neos City, and why did you freak out when Lucas and I had used Chaos Surge? Have you seen it before?''
When Shadow didn't answer, Sonic started to tap impatiently with his foot, his arms folded across his chest. He was about to approach Shadow, when the latter slammed his hands against the desk suddenly, getting up. It appeared that he was done with whatever he was working on.
''You're really getting on my nerves, Hedgehog,'' Shadow told Sonic. To his surprise, Sonic just grinned.
''Yeeeah, that's what a lot of people tell me. So, what's your deal?'' Sonic asked nonchalantly.
''Since you made the effort to find me at this place, I will give you a choice,'' Shadow replied, with Sonic's carefree attitude vanishing as he listened carefully to the former. ''You can either perish at my hand, or you can observe Neos City, including this part of Starpoint Area, be consumed in a massive explosion, you and everyone within the radius meeting their creator.''
''What?'' Sonic stared at Shadow for a moment, shocked. He felt cold chills running down his spine as he processed what Shadow had just told me. ''What are you talking about? D-Do you want to nuke Neos City?''
''I guess you could describe it that way,'' Shadow replied, folding his arms across his chest. A sinister smirk spread across his lips, showing his fangs. ''What I'm offering you is an act of mercy. Even if you're an ARNav, I'm certain that you wouldn't want to go down in such an awful way.''
''You're trying to tell me that you're going to kill off everyone in Neos City and that I should be happy to die at your hand, did I get that right?'' Sonic asked, his eyes narrowing. Shadow just glared at him, not even responding. ''Oh, no, pal, I'm not going to do that. Now, here's what is going to happen. You'll stop this explosion and we'll have- agh!''
Before Sonic could even finish his sentence, Shadow had formed a bolt of orange energy and fired it at Sonic, who managed to dodge it in the last second. The bolt of energy hit the door behind him, leaving a black mark, a scent of burnt metal and plastic filling the air. Sonic looked at the door, then back at Shadow.
''Fine, have it your way!'' Sonic charged at Shadow, who dodged the latter's attack and, using his air shoes, matched Sonic in speed. The two became a pair of blue and orange and black blurs as they fought, eventually crashing into the hallway, where they were found by a bewildered Lucas.
Sonic didn't even have the time to acknowledge Lucas' presence, as Shadow rammed into him, causing him to almost smash into the wall. Sonic then charged at Shadow, who skated down the hallway to a more open area. Sonic could feel sparks of energy crackling through his body as he glared at Shadow. He knew that he could just ask Lucas to perform Chaos Surge and take down Shadow that way, but he decided to save it in case they had no other way of defeating the black hedgehog.
''Why are you doing this Shadow? Why are you trying to kill everyone?'' Sonic asked, his ears twitching as he heard Lucas running into the room. Lucas, who was right behind Sonic, stared at Shadow in pure shock after hearing Sonic's questions. What were the two talking about?
''Why should I tell you anything?'' Shadow replied, clenching his fists as he took a combat stance. He had set off the program that would overload the energy cores. Now, all he needed to do was to stall for time.
''Well, it looks like the world is ending and you're hellbent on killing me. If this were a movie, this would be the moment where the villain reveals their motives for what they're doing,'' Sonic replied.
''Wh-What?''
Sonic couldn't help but smirk at Shadow's bewildered look. Either the black hedgehog had never seen a movie, or he didn't believe himself to be the villain of this story. He then used this moment of distraction to run up to Shadow and clock him straight across the face, sending him flying. Shadow hit the ground hard, but managed to get up in a crouching position, rubbing his bruised cheek with the back of his hand and baring his fangs.
''Why do you hate everyone so much?'' Sonic continued, preparing himself for Shadow's retaliation. It came faster than he expected, with Shadow charging at him for a punch. Sonic dodged it, but ended up with a kick to his chest.
''Because this is what they deserve!'' Shadow growled, hitting Sonic's shoulder when the latter failed to dodge his attack. Sonic had no idea what had gotten into Shadow, but it looked like the black hedgehog had enough. ''You keep asking why…'' Sonic gasped as he hit the wall, moving his head just in time to avoid Shadow's next punch, which left a crack in it. He then looked back at the enraged black hedgehog, his crimson eyes glowing as he breathed heavily, ignoring the pain in his hand. ''Humans are nothing but selfish, greedy beings with no compassion for those who suffer. They keep experimenting with life callously, showing no remorse for their actions. Even senseless death won't stop them from their cruelty towards others.''
''I know that people can be cruel and selfish…'' Sonic said, using his super speed to get away from being pinned by Shadow against the wall and appear right behind him, ''...but that still doesn't give you the right to act like a genocidal maniac!''
Shadow charged at Sonic, with the latter managing to dodge his fist, only for Shadow to suddenly vanish and Sonic feel pain in his back. He flew, landing on the ground face-first, with Shadow then appearing before him. Sonic lifted his head, glaring at the black hedgehog, who returned an aloof gaze. Sonic was surprised that the latter didn't gloat, but the feeling of surprise was quickly replaced by a sense of curiosity.
''You haven't told me everything…'' He slowly got up, bruised. ''Am I right?''
Shadow didn't respond. He had to admit, Sonic was quite determined to get a direct answer out of him, even if it cost him his life, and he had to admire that resolve.
''Why do you insist on learning why I'm doing this? Why are you so persistent?'' Shadow finally asked, hoping that the blue hedgehog would finally shut up and focus on the fight.
''Because, I believe that you wouldn't be saying any of this if there wasn't some personal tragedy involved,'' Sonic replied.
Shadow stared at Sonic in stunned silence, wondering how the blue hedgehog came to that conclusion. Was he that easy to read? Does it even matter anymore?
''If you really insist…'' Shadow took a deep breath, carefully observing his opponent. They would all be gone soon, and the secret would die along with them. There was nothing they could do to stop the inevitable. Shadow's gaze wandered from Sonic to Lucas. ''I assume that this human is important to you.''
''Of course he is! Lucas is my best buddy,'' Sonic said, with Lucas smiling in response. He was worried about his partner, but he didn't interfere, hoping that Sonic would be to deal with this situation.
''I also had someone who was important to me, someone I was close to,'' Shadow continued, clenching his fists, feeling the rage growing inside him. ''However, she had been taken away from me. The humans who worked here were responsible for her death, and I had promised to myself that I would avenge her.'' Shadow's quiet tone grew louder, filled with raw hatred. ''They treated Touka like a guinea pig, never telling her why she had been here, and she payed with her life. We had both been trapped here for all of our lives, and all she wanted was to step outside this building, but that wish died with her.'' Shadow gritted his teeth, baring his fangs. He felt as if someone put a stone in his chest, as if someone grabbed him by the neck and was choking him. ''Those humans never cared for her! They just let her die, never bothering to even lift a finger to help her when she needed them!''
Sonic and Lucas exchanged glances of astonishment, which was quickly replaced by knowing looks. Despite his head still being a mess from the storm of emotions he felt, Shadow had to admit that he was a little surprised by their reaction. It seemed as if they knew something he didn't. Sonic then stepped up, trying to look serious, but the corner of his mouth twitched as a tiny grin formed on his lips.
''Shadow, you said that this person's name is Touka, right?'' Sonic asked. Shadow frowned, glaring at the blue hedgehog.
''Was,'' he responded.
''Uh, I don't know how to tell you this but… I think that someone had lied to you,'' Sonic continued.
''What are you talking about?'' Shadow asked, now feeling irritated.
''That's because Sonic and I know Touka, and the last time we saw her, which was the other day, she was alive,'' Lucas replied, hoping that they were all talking about the same person. Ferra had been telling them the truth so far and he hoped that the part with Touka was correct as well. ''As a matter of fact, we were told that she had entered this building and didn't come out. She may still be somewhere-''
''You're lying!'' Sonic and Lucas both almost jumped out of their skin when Shadow screamed at them. His crimson eyes were glowing, his fists clenched as he stared at them, completely enraged. His voice, normally calm and steady, was filled with raw fury. ''She is dead! I watched her die!'' Shadow continued, the fury in his voice fading into anguish. ''She is gone and nothing will bring her back!''
''Shadow…'' Sonic could see tears forming in the corners of Shadow's eyes, with black hedgehog finally giving into his grief. He felt pity for Shadow, for him losing the person he cared about the most, but at the same time, he knew that there was hope. ''Shadow, please, listen to me. Touka is still here, and she actually went searching for you-!''
''SHUT UP!''
Filled with rage, Shadow fired a bolt of energy at Sonic, but before the blue hedgehog could dodge it, cyan energy appeared around the bolt, directing it away from Sonic and into a nearby wall. Sonic, Lucas and Shadow heard steps behind them, with Silver and Makoto, followed by Warren, Tails, Lily, Knuckles, Minami and Amy emerging from the hallway.
''I hope we're not too late,'' Silver told Sonic, his palms lined with cyan energy. Sonic just shook his head in response.
''Ha, the cavalry always arrives in time,'' Knuckles commented, keeping an eye on Shadow. ''You're outnumbered, Black Hedgehog. Surrender now and we might spare you.''
Shadow didn't respond, instead observing the group of humans and Irregulars. He will not let them stop him in carrying out his last wish. He would make sure that humanity would perish at his hands.
''No,'' Shadow replied, his voice now calm and collected, chilling Sonic to the core when he heard him. He sounded focused, yet… empty. Sonic knew that Shadow had crossed the line of no return, that he felt that there was nothing he had to live for. There was only one thing that remained, and he was going to fight for it until the bitter end. Shadow focused on the blue hedgehog, as if reading his mind, his crimson eyes narrowing. ''This battle has just begun.''
[...]
Sonic and Shadow spin-dashed into each other, too fast for Knuckles and Silver to follow. While Knuckles could punch the living daylights out of Shadow and Silver could use his psychokinesis to prevent him from moving at all, there was one issue with this plan – they had to have a clear target so they didn't hit Sonic on accident.
''This is bad,'' Silver muttered as Sonic and Shadow charged once again at each other, both seemingly equal in power and speed. ''We won't be able to do much unless they slow down.''
''Stay alert, Grey Hedgehog,'' Knuckles told him, keeping an eye on Shadow. ''The moment we have the opportunity, we attack.''
Shadow suddenly teleported behind Sonic, but the latter anticipated this move, spin-dashing into the darker hedgehog. Shadow hit the wall behind, but managed to get up, forming an bolt of energy and firing it at Sonic. However, before it could hit his opponent, it stopped mid-air, surrounded by cyan energy once again.
''Thanks, Silv!'' Sonic replied, with Silver grinning, and dashed back at Shadow. The two suddenly started to grapple with each other, neither being able to push the other away. Sonic's eyes narrowed as he locked eyes with Shadow. ''You're making a grave mistake.''
''I don't care.'' Shadow attempted to punch Sonic, but the latter dodged the attack, stepping back, only for Knuckles to suddenly charge between them, punching Shadow square in the chest. The dark hedgehog stumbled back, having to admit that Knuckles' attack actually did quite some damage. Knuckles attempted to punch Shadow once again, but the latter used his air shoes to skate backwards, dodging every single punch.
''Stop moving!'' Knuckles yelled furiously, swing after swing missing due to Shadow's superior speed. Suddenly, Shadow teleported away, leaving Knuckles puzzled for a moment, then appearing right behind the echidna and firing an energy bolt at point-blank range.
''Knux!'' Sonic and Silver cried out in worry as the energy bolt took the echidna out. Still, despite being on the ground, Knuckles was trying to get up. He rammed his fists, spikes first, into the nearby wall in an attempt to lift himself up, but Shadow suddenly spin-dashed into him. Or at least, he would've done so if his entire body hadn't been paralyzed by a cyan aura. He forced his head to move, realizing that it was Silver who kept him from attacking.
''The battle's over,'' Silver told him, his palms lined with cyan energy. Sonic and Knuckles had joined him, both badly bruised and a little out of breath, but otherwise fine. Shadow tried to move, but Silver's kept him in place. Shadow knew that, if he wanted to continue this fight, he would have to take the grey hedgehog out first.
[...]
Silver hovered Shadow a bit closer to him, Sonic and Knuckles, still making sure that there was a reasonable distance between them in case Shadow tried something. There was no way that he would let the darker hedgehog escape.
''Give up Shadow,'' Sonic said. ''As Silver said, it's over.''
''You were a powerful opponent, but even the toughest of warriors know when it is time to surrender,'' Knuckles added.
Shadow remained silent, observing the three. He tried to move, but Silver was holding him tight in place. Still, despite that, he wasn't down for the count yet. He hadn't battled Knuckles and Silver before, so he didn't know what they were capable of, resulting in underestimating the two. He lowered his head.
''I refuse. I will never give up,'' he said, tapping into his energy reserves, hoping that his plan would work. ''Chaos Control!''
Much to Sonic, Knuckles and, especially, Silver's shock, Shadow teleported out of the cyan aura that kept him in place. He then appeared before the three, an energy bolt forming in his hands. ''Chaos Spear!''
Fortunately, Silver managed to raise a cyan barrier to block the attack. ''Take this!'' Silver then pushed the cyan barrier at Shadow in an attempt to pin him against the wall. However, Shadow used his air skates to push back against the cyan barrier, refusing to let the grey hedgehog return him to an immobile state once again. Unfortunately for him, Silver's psychokinesis was more powerful.
''Knux, fastball special, now!'' Sonic turned to Knuckles, who nodded. He then curled into a ball and Knuckles grabbed him, hurling him straight into Shadow, with Silver lifting the barrier away in the last second.
Sonic spin-dashed into Shadow, finally knocking the black hedgehog off his feet. However, despite being on the ground, Shadow was still trying to get up, showing baffling persistence. Sonic knew that they were running out of time and that there was nothing that there would convince Shadow to stop this explosion from happening. He was too consumed by grief and rage to listen to anyone, to the point that Sonic had to wonder whether Shadow was even concerned with his own survival.
Shadow had finally managed to get up, stepping towards them. He was breathing heavily, his expression showing nothing but pure fury. Sonic stepped back, joining Knuckles and Silver as they anticipated Shadow's next move, only to be stunned when Shadow's body suddenly started to glow, a red aura surrounding him as he charged up energy. The red aura formed a sphere around Shadow as he crossed his arms, hovering in the air for a brief moment, only to unfold them, releasing a massive wave of energy.
''Chaos Blast!''
The energy blast resulted in a massive explosion, blowing up the entire area and taking Sonic, Knuckles and Silver down. Shadow landed on the ground, winded from the attack that had been fueled by his anger, hatred and pain. He still felt the adrenaline rushing through his body as he approached Sonic, standing right in front of the fallen blue hedgehog.
''I told you, I refuse to give up, Hedgehog'' he said.
''Wh-Why don't you leave?'' Sonic asked, trying to lift his head, locking eyes with Shadow. ''Y-You'll die a-as well…''
This question left Shadow stunned momentarily. As much as he had to admire Sonic's tenacity and ability to keep up with him, he couldn't understand why he was determined to talk to him, to learn more about him. Why was Sonic showing so much concern regarding his emotional and mental state? They were enemies, nothing more and nothing less. Shadow had already shown that he didn't care for him or any of his friends and was willing to kill all of them in order to fulfill his own goals.
''Do you really have nothing to live for?'' Sonic asked as he got up, pressing his hand against his shoulder and looking unsafe on his feet. Despite the beating he took, he was still smiling, baffling Shadow. How could Sonic still be willing to talk to him like this? Sonic then sighed, shaking his head. ''I guess that is what makes you so dangerous. You believe that you have nothing left to lose.''
''I agree, I have nothing left to lose,'' Shadow said, well aware that there is nothing Sonic could do. What he didn't expect was for Sonic to suddenly sucker punch him, causing him to stumble back. Shadow was shocked, rubbing his bruised cheek.
''Well, I disagree!'' Sonic told him firmly, with Knuckles and Silver standing up behind him, both still willing to continue the fight. ''Even if that's that path you have chosen, I won't give up. I will continue to fight for my friends, for Neos City, and for you as well. You might believe that I'm lying, but there is someone waiting for you.''
Knuckles and Silver stared at Sonic. While they may not have had access to the full story behind this fight, as everything happened to fast and not much had been explained, they still trusted Sonic with whatever plan he had. However, before either of them could even continue with the battle, Lucas' team suddenly ran into the area, followed by a cry that shook Shadow to his very core.
''Shadow, please, stop this!''
Shadow stared in shock at the very person he believed to be dead for so long. His crimson eyes were wide and his body was paralyzed, his heart racing as a storm of emotions hit him with full force. ''N-No… It can't be… This- This isn't possible…''
It felt like a dream. The person he cared about the most, the one he fought for and the one who wanted to avenge was standing right in front of him, alive and well.
[...]
''I don't think you should sacrifice your own life either.'' Shadow turned around, surprised to see Sonic behind him. Silver was also there, just standing awkwardly with the energy cores floating around him. ''I told you before, you still have something to live for.''
''I don't disagree with you,'' Shadow said in a regretful tone, with Sonic tilting his head, his arms folded across his chest. ''However, there is no other option.''
''What about using Chaos Surge? You are an Irregular and you can manipulate BioEnergy,'' Sonic suggested, ignoring Shadow's furious glare. ''From what I understood, all you need is a power boost, or am I wrong?''
''I refuse to use BioEnergy for this,'' Shadow responded angrily.
''Why?'' Silver asked, picking the energy core out of the panel once Touka was done disconnecting it. ''Sure, it is risky, but we could show you how to use it properly.''
''I'm also fully willing to go along with this plan,'' Touka added. Shadow clenched his fists, shaking. He knew that the three were right, that there would be a chance for him to make it out alive if he absorbed Touka's BioEnergy. However, the moment they suggested it, his mind flashed back to his battle with the rogue Irregular, the memory of Touka dying resurfacing. He had hoped that this memory would perish when he too perished, but he now understood that he couldn't keep it no longer a secret.
''I was the reason why you almost lost your life,'' Shadow said, surprising everyone. ''I was a complete fool, having resorted to use your BioEnergy in the fight against that Irregular, and when it was over, I was told you were dead.'' He shook his head, his voice shaking. ''I'm not going to repeat the same mistake again!''
''Shadow…'' Touka muttered, feeling sorry for him. Despite all of his hatred towards the humans that betrayed him, he still blamed himself for what had happened to her. She exchanged quiet glances with Sonic and Silver, the latter leaving to quickly pick up the remaining energy cores after Lucas waved him over. She clenched her fists, a determined look forming on her expression. ''I know you won't repeat your mistake, and that is why I want us to try out Chaos Surge.''
''What?'' Shadow was stunned, while Sonic just grinned.
''If Lucas and Sonic could do it without suffering the any of the harsher consequences, then I'm sure we can do it too,'' Touka added.
''Now that's the spirit!'' Sonic cheered, while Shadow gave both of them a dubious look.

''Stack them up in the middle,'' he said, pointing at the ground. Silver did as he was told and, after giving them one last gaze, he quickly followed the rest of the group. Lucas and Sonic turned to Touka and Shadow, with Sonic crackling his knuckles.
''Okay, ready to learn how to use Chaos Surge?'' Sonic asked. Shadow nodded, being ready to finally confront his fears and the pain that came with it. He looked at Touka, giving her a look of pure determination.
''I will hold on to our promise,'' he said, with Touka smiling, happy to see him overcome his doubts. The two then looked at Sonic and Lucas.
''All that you have to do is activate the BioEnergy. Once it is active, don't absorb it, but let it float. You both need to feel it,'' Sonic explained.
''Once you do, then you both need to absorb it. Don't be afraid of going for it and stay focused,'' Lucas continued, him and Sonic stretching out their arms, blue energy crackling between them. Both could feel the BioEnergy transforming into something far more powerful.
''Chaos Surge!''
Touka and Shadow watched the two as they absorbed the energy, leading the two to become enveloped in a blue aura, with electricity sparking around them, both Lucas and Sonic giving the two a confident look. Touka then looked at Shadow, extending her hand, with Shadow grabbing it without any hesitance. He could sense her BioEnergy, calling for him to absorb it, to become stronger. However, he rejected this power. It wasn't just for him, but for both of them.
''Chaos Surge!''
A bright dark red and orange orb of energy appeared between the two, sparks of electricity enveloping them as they both absorbed it, now empowered. Shadow's eyes were now glowing in an orange and red colour as he and Touka turned towards the energy cores, which were now burning in a hot red.
''Ready?'' Touka asked as she stepped on one side of the energy cores, extending her hands before them as she felt the Chaos energy surging through her body.
''I am,'' Shadow mirrored her actions, focusing on the Chaos energy inside his body. It was far stronger than anything else he had experience and he was going to use every drop of it to save this world.
Both of their eyes glowed red as they were enveloped by a blue field of energy, determined to carry out this mission to the bitter end.
''CHAOS CONTROL!''
[...]
Shadow looked hesitant for a moment, but then did as Tails instructed him, placing the goggles on his forehead and carefully placing the band between his quills. Touka placed her hands on her back, bowing over slightly as she grinned.
''The goggles look really great on you,'' she said, with Shadow smiling in response. His smile then quickly faded into a frown when he saw Sonic run up to them, grinning.
''You know, you may not want to be friends with us, but that still doesn't mean that we can't hang out,'' Sonic said. ''Despite all the craziness and battles, we did have some fun, didn't we?''
''While I appreciate your help, Blue Hedgehog, I'm not interested in being in your company longer than necessary,'' Shadow responded, turning around. ''This is a farewell.''
He and Touka then walked away, only for Shadow to suddenly flinch, feeling exasperated when he heard Sonic's response.
''See ya later, Shad!'' Sonic yelled for everyone to hear, waving Shadow and Touka goodbye. The two didn't respond, despite their obvious reaction, vanishing into the forest. Sonic smirked in satisfaction, glancing at Tails as he placed a hand on his hip. ''The two will come around eventually.''
Tails laughed, ''I had figured you wouldn't give up on them.''
''I believe that all they need is a simple nudge in the right direction. Shadow isn't a bad guy and I'm looking forward to running into him again,'' Sonic responded, with the rest of the group approaching them. ''Now, com'n, let's go home!''

Blue Streak
speeds by!
Sonic the Hedgehog!
Today marks the 30th anniversary of the premiere of ABC's "Sonic the Hedgehog" animated series, affectionately known by its fans as SatAM Sonic. Those who know me know I've always had a very special place in my heart for it, and as such I decided to revisit one of my oldest art projects in celebration of the occasion. Way back in my deviantART days, I did a bunch of loose remakes of key scenes from SatAM's awesome intro sequence, and, starting here, I'll be giving those scenes another go, with a sharper eye on recapturing the look and feel of the original series. There's more to come, so watch this space, and keep it cool!

Protean, Ricretillo

[Where I live, it's going to get 20 degrees Fahrenheit hotter in the next 48 hours. It definitely feels like chaotic creatures are messing with the weather around here. As a reminder, the names of all of these proteans are anagrams for people who are thematically linked. Someone important in the history of meteorology has a name that can be rearranged into "ricretillo". Can you guess who?]
Protean, Ricretillo CR 12 CN Outsider (extraplanar) This serpentine creature has gray scaled skin, shot through with luminous streaks of blue. Its head is stout, with a heavy lower jaw and frilly ears and gills. Small fins grow from its arms and along its back. The wind whips around it constantly.
It is said that when a butterfly flaps its wings in one part of the world, it can cause a hurricane in another. This is especially true if ricretillos are involved. A ricretillo is the protean of weather, and they are as capricious as the wind and as unpredictable as the waves. They are as comfortable in the water as in the air, and often swim back and forth between them, going without touching land for years or decades at a time. It is ricretillos that help to stir the Cerulean Sea of the Maelstrom, and they are responsible for making sure that weather patterns are never fully predictable.
A ricretillo spends most of its time camouflaged as a cloud or as the sea itself; they are rarely seen unless they want to be seen. They fight primarily in order to defend a weather pattern they enjoy; they will attack druids and clerics in the middle of casting a control weather spell, or may fight to defend them if they are attacked by others and the protean wills it. Ricretillos usually fight on the run, hurling spells and bolts of thunder or lightning. With their freedom of movement, a ricretillo can move effortlessly in hurricane winds or torrential floods, and they take full advantage of this. When they close into melee, they go for a grapple, charging their powerful tails with elemental forces and keeping grappled victims stunned and helpless until killed.
Even by the standards of a protean, ricretillos have capricious moods. Their emotions or behavior can turn on a dime, making them somewhat hazardous to deal with. Clerics of elemental gods sometimes summon them with greater planar ally spells, but they are fickle allies even then unless magically controlled or called by a cleric of a protean lord. Their colors shift from white to grey to black with their moods, like a cloud, unless they consciously make an effort to control their pigment.

The save DC is Charisma based. Camouflage (Ex) A ricretillo gains a +10 racial bonus to Stealth checks, and can make Stealth checks without cover or concealment. Change Shape (Su) An ricretillo can change shape at will, but does not gain any healing from reverting to its normal shape, as is typical for proteans. It can only assume the form of elementals with the air or water subtypes. Stormsight (Ex) A ricretillo’s vision is not impaired by magical or mundane weather.
