ive always found the season 3 finale battle to be incredibly underwhelming and anticlimactic. i understand why it happened the way it did, but it still does not stop me from wishing for a world where we saw luz and belos have a showdown that not only feels and looks cool, but one that callbacks to their previous fights in the season 1 and 2 finales. where in those fights she was not even standing a chance, here they'd fight on the same ground. what i wouldnt give to see them clash staffs as if though they are swords. so for a while now ive been working on and off on an animation to bear ghost's funkle phil where belos adorns his own "titan form" and him and luz have a proper duel. this is the reference i made for myself of belos' form. obviously inspired by both his emperor and day of unity outfits, as well as luz's own titan form.

concepting a transfem sasaki

hey everybody. kiri here. to the question of, "what do you mean by this?" I don't quite know either, since I started thinking about this just last night. the idea appeared in my head and I just started thinking: what would sasaki to miyano look like, if sasaki shuumei wanted to be a girl? so this is less "headcanon I'm evidencing" and more "reimagining"

sasaki's relationship with force and violence are pretty interesting--I've touched on it here (beginning) and here. I think there's something really fun to play with in this idea of sasaki thinking something along the lines of, I don’t want to be a man (dangerous), but I can’t be a woman (because I am dangerous). obviously this is pretty, yknow, gender essentialism, but to me that's what makes it interesting? like, having to parse through these personal feelings, of how this sasaki might understand her relationship to force, her understanding of gender, and getting into the complications of that and trying to find what feels true to herself... all really, really fun things to explore. for me.

even within the bounds of canon, though sasaki seems semi-ambivalent about fashion (gets a lot of his clothing from his older sister's boyfriend) he's not... entirely without taste. he's got piercing preferences, and then there is, of course, his hair. in the sasaki and miyano: first years light novel, I've always been fascinated by the interlude: where the calico draws the line bit. sasaki has a bad dye job and is like, so miserable about it the whole time, because people will be Looking at it, and he's kind of miserable about everything, but he's annoyed enough about this that he re-dyes his hair as soon as he can and even goes so far as to use his sister's hair treatment. it's really... fussy? and it made me think like... wow, sasaki is really concsious about how he presents himself and how he's perceived. the famous ch 23 "is he... changing how he speaks to me...?" realization from miyano and all that.

speaking of miyano, writing a transfem sasaki means there's new and interesting things to consider now with sasaki's relationship to miyano. we begin in much the same way: sasaki steps into kuresawa's fight, and takes the hits. this, no matter how you swing it, is one of sasaki's positive associations with his/her own strength, even as it reinforces the idea that she/he is meant for taking damage.

here, though, miyano's not just a cute guy with the kind of joie de vivre that sasaki doesn't have. miyano is a guy who could be a girl. it would be so easy for him. it's not so easy for sasaki. but even though it's easy, miyano doesn't want it. how could you not want it? sasaki thinks. what does it mean, if it's not for the guy who it should be so easy. if he loves being a guy in a way that you've never loved it.

so then, of course, there's the crossdressing contest. sasaki, in canon, gets this really intense moment of jealousy. here, jealous, sasaki will certainly get. but of what?
