final thoughts on battle for the pridelands

my liveblogging was… chaotic, to say the least, but I wanted to really gather my thoughts on this episode because its a big, big one. figuratively AND literally lol.

first things first the new designs straight up shook me in a /neu way, it’s not that I don’t like them but I just wasn’t ready to let go of the old designs yet, y’know? I kind of dislike how Fuli’s design feels like a completely different character, but otherwise it’s eh. I think seeing the guard grow up just made me emotional, haha. I wish Janja, Cheezi, Chungu and Jasiri got new designs tho, since I hc them to be roughly around the same age as the rest of the guard. I understand that making new designs for a whole bunch of characters (characters that wouldn’t be appearing much later, too) would be a lot of work but it just felt kind of odd to see Jasiri unchanged next to Teen Kion or whatever. Maybe at least change some tiny details, if not the entire design.

I like that they delved more into Kion worrying this time. it really puts into perspective that.. yea, these guys are child soldiers. thats. gonna come with a lot of emotional load. seeing Fuli and the others worry about Kion was a nice touch too, honestly. definitely opens up for thoughts about just HOW much these guys are affected by the whole child soldier thing. hearing all five of them sing again was wonderful <3 especially Ono, since he doesn’t get to sing a lot.

Scar’s betrayal of Janja was expected, lol. I actually REALLY like the way the show carried out Janja’s redemption, and WOW his song slaps. the guard + Janja’s clan getting stuck in the Lair while it was on fire was also really interesting to me, and I wish they hadn’t taken the route of them just.. escaping through Beshte’s pool. it was like.. what was the point of putting them there then? I’ll probably put more stakes in my maybe-going-to-exist rewrite, but lets see how I go with that.

oookay, the stuff that went down at the volcano was WHEW. Scar’s song with this Strange Lion guy was like wow ok so . introducing new lore to explain why you’ll give Kion his scar and then completely forget abt it (or at least I think they do, I still haven’t watched the rest of the season), nice! buuut also creative, dare I say. song’s not bad!

ANGST. Scar singing the song Sisi Ni Sawa, the show’s most popular song, to Kion and LITERALLY MEANING IT. this is one of the few(?) times the show outright parallels Scar and Kion, and god I actually loved it. the fanfic writer side of me is leaning forward in my chair because there is no way Kion’s not going to forget that thought. Scar’s last words to Kion were literally “Sisi Ni Sawa”. Kion is the Direct Successor of Scar in terms of Lion Guard leader. THE POTENTIAL. THE ANGST. (cough) okay, but apart from that yahoo more delving into Kion’s character.

Bunga diving in to save Kion from Ushari and then promptly falling into the lava gave me a fricking heart attack. call me dramatic but started getting emotional on the spot. ONO FLYING INTO THE LAVA TO SAVE HIM did NOT help, and someone save my poor boy I feel so bad for him agh 😭

The outlanders reaction to Scar being gone felt kind of bland, but then again I’m not really sure what else it COULD have been. I’m sure some of you do, though, so feel free to share your thoughts:].

there’s.. a lot of things I would have changed, but thats because I dislike how childish the show can get sometimes. call me out, I deserve it, the show is meant for kids, but it has potential!!! While Bakara is a 20~yo, freshly graduated, alcoholic nepo-baby.

Let it be known I don't like Julith. She is a fun character to watch, but... I feel like the fandom treats her as someone who's done no wrong, despite all the evidence we are given to believe that she is a horrible person.

She was framed, and she did love Jahash, but that doesn't take away from anything else. She beat the shit out of Bakara here, even though she could have restrained her much more gently, — she dug into Bakara's insecurities and called her a poor little fool too.

I really doubt Jahash would have liked that. (Same for her plans of killing a thousand people though, so, I really doubt she gives a shit about his wishes at this point.)

She does THIS SHIT. Jesus christ! Maybe, just maybe, she would know of your feelings, because she loves him just as much? Maybe that's why she wants to kill you as much as you want to kill everyone in Bonta? Have you thought about that, you hot topic customer-looking edgelord?

Besides her hypocrisy, she was known for her ruthlessness, even before the war. There's a reason they still call her a butcher. Which is why I kinda dislike how often this stuff is swept under the rug by fans making cute content.

...I do support women's rights, but I also support women's wrongs, and Julith has a lot of those. She's tragic, but also evil.

Unlike someone like Nox, she makes no effort to empathize or connect with people who oppose her, and knows no mercy. At the very least, Nox had a twisted sense of morals, and could whip out an epic "you're just like me fr...." during a battle.

Batman vs Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles liveblog reaction

Just a little over a minute into the movie and Barbara Gordon stops some shuriken with nothing more than a filing folder. Awesome.

Not going to lie, when I first saw a clip from this movie on Youtube, I had no idea that Batman was being played by Troy Baker and not the late Kevin Conroy. I'm looking forward to how he plays The Joker in this movie.

These heavily stylized intro credits, man. Absolutely in love. The music also fucking slaps.

Is it bad that I genuinely like Leonardo carrying his katana on his belt rather than his back like in most iterations? I know it makes him look more samurai than ninja, but it looks so badass.

I love that the Penguin is only mildly perturbed at discovering he's being attacked by mutant turtles.

here is the playlist i use with all the seasons in order

so you really dont need any prior knowledge to get started. season one was very much new and a learning process for everyone. as you may know ordem paranormal is a tabletop roleplaying game so you roll dice and roleplay throughout. ordem paranormal uses its own system with mechanics and rules so it’s new to everyone when you start watching. there is 4 main seasons and 3 spinoffs. in total its 7 campaigns. however not all of it is captioned so you dont have to worry about watching it all.

the first season is A Ordem Paranormal (A Paranormal Order in english) it is 3 episodes and fully captioned in english by a team of volunteers called Equipe T. so the captions are not auto generated do not worry. this team works on all the seasons and they have an official twitter where they post updates on their progress and such.

the second season is called O Segredo na Floresta (The Secret in the Forest in english) this season is also fully captioned in english and has 16 episodes. this season is probably one of the more popular ones and nostalgic ones for people who watched it live.

the third season is called Desconjuração (which is Deconjuration in english. which funnily enough i dont think is an actual word in english but thats what it’d translate to.) this season is the one Equipe T is currently working on. they recently actually like a few days ago released the captions for episode 5 and 6 so if you’re interested you can watch episodes 1-6 fully captioned in english. they work very hard when i started watching desconjuração only episode 1 was captioned!

then the latest spinoff Ordem Paranormal: Quarentena is also fully captioned in english because that was the season where the qsmp members got to play ordem paranormal. it is only two episodes!

the seasons between then are not captioned so Calamidade, O Segredo na Ilha, and Sinais do Outro Lado.

also dont feel pressured or overwhelmed by the episode lengths or how many seasons there are. if you do end up watching it go at your own pace. you dont need to finish an episode in one whole sitting you know? its a long ass series that started in 2020. take your time with it and enjoy it! i highly suggest liveblogging it since its fun to save ur reactions to events and characters and i know a lot of people love seeing others watch it for the first time. also if you dont enjoy it thats cool too dont feel obligated to keep watching for whatever reason. have fun with it<33

OK, some disjointed Why We Fight thoughts because the last half of the episode is not meant for snarky liveblogging.

This is the first time we see Dick at a loss for words. Even in Day of Days, acting as CO and leading a handful of guys into battle, and he's collected. But in the camp, he's taking longer to respond, speaking in a quieter, hoarse voice, and stammering a bit. Please give all the awards to Damian Lewis.

Dick asks Christenson — played by German speaker Michael Fassbender, — if any of his guys speak German. (Ultimately Liebgott comes to translate.)

Speaking of German, guess Web forgot how? His character is all over the place.

Does this show do too many flashbacks? Is it a narrative crutch? I can't decide.

Like others, I wish we'd gotten a different Nix episode and this focused on Liebgott. Maybe move all the Liebgott/Webster antagonism to WWF and have TLP be Nix's episode? Just spitballing. He's pretty disillusioned in TLP too, and at this point in the show, the writers are messing with the timeline more, so it wouldn't really matter if, say, Cathy's divorce letter came a month earlier or he was demoted then either.

There's something very odd about the documentary vet interviews being "this German could have been my friend" and then the conclusion of the episode being "all these townspeople definitely knew what was going on, and no response/resistance is acceptance of this horror." It's too late for me to articulate my thoughts well.

There's also something off-putting about Easy's role in the camp being fictionalized (ie, they didn't discover it, but rather helped there for a day before moving out). While BOB isn't a documentary, it has documentary pieces (the vet interviews) and is touted for it's historical accuracy. However, it's ultimately a TV show that needs to provide entertainment, not a history text book. There's something jarring about fictionalizing a bit of the Holocaust, when so many people deny or trivialize it, plus it seems to dishonor the actual unit that liberated the camp (who I can't remember off the top of my head, sorry). In some big picture ways, it doesn't matter. The broad general strokes are there. But I think you need to be so careful about these types of stories.

I'm obsessed with watching reaction videos and found one by some Serbian young women who understood what the prisoner who's carrying the (near) corpse said. It's in Serbian and it's essentially "help him, he's still alive." Absolutely gut-wrenching to watch their reaction.

Speaking of, everyone I've ever watched this with or seen reaction videos of focuses on Nix losing his dog — and not his kid. Sorry, son.

Forgot to say this is the only time we see Speirs shake, too.

Honestly I think it might just be a me thing. I was informed the sound mixing studios changed so I'm currently crediting the off-sounds to that. But i spend like a lot of time listening to the sound effects in monkie kid while I make my amvs since i don't just mute the sound. I use the impacts and sound effects as part of the beat of the songs for most of my amvs. I even end up timing the rhythm of the voices to match the music cause I can hear when it clashes or when its off. I've spent hours and hours and hours and hours listening to voice clips and getting familiar with tone and beat and delivery and cadence of the voice actors so when things sound even a little off, I think for me it sounds REALLY off, even if its not noticeable for other people.

Bakara really thinks that Joris is stupid enough to go with her, while Joris employs the classical battle tactic of lying, by approaching her until she let go of Lilotte and saying "im going to kill you or hurt you in some way [giggle]" immediately after.

But as Bakara has shown repeatedly, even in this scene alone, she doesn't think highly of Joris. Even if she tried really hard to pretend that she did.

Well, she doesn't think of anyone highly, actually. Including herself.

While watching this movie, I always go between different extremes, when thinking about Joris and Bakara's relationship in the future. Would it become worse? Would they be close? Would they hate each other?

Every time I have a different answer, which is probably an answer in on itself.

My current take is that whether Joris and Bakara consider one another a friend probably varies from year to year. I can see it clearly: her telling him stories of Jahash. Her helping him around the home. Her criticizing him harshly for being a failure of a huppermage (it's as unacceptable for him to be that, as it is for her). Her stopping talking to him after he leaves the academy. Beginning to talk to him again after a few years, when he has a very close call to death while adventuring, — angry at him, because don't you dare die on me while we're in one of our "I don't talk to you" argument phases. Rinse and repeat.

I think it's funny. Atcham's greatest wish, besides hair, has always been "I want someone in my family to care about me," while Bakara...

Whike Bakara, as an heir of a Bontarian hero, would probably fear being in the wrong, — an evildoer, — the very most.

No wonder they're so shocked.

Both of them are experiencing some entirely new emotions, thanks to Joris.

It's not really about Bonta. It's about revenge. And it's about her feeling inadequate. And it's about her feeling like a failure.

As far as she's concerned, even a dofus doesn't want her, with how broken she is. He wants some weird, off-putting, Julith-related 10yo instead.

One has to wonder, if it is a genuine plea, or if she is manipulating Bakara by revealing the truth. Because she doesn't want to be blown to pieces by a dofus.

It's a bit hard to analyse this part of the movie because I'll be real, there's so much occuring all at the same time. Like bro. Imagine being Joris here.

The woman who killed your dads is now like "I am going to bring one of them back", and also another one came back 5 minutes ago, but also things are exploding and fire is everywhere, and also your aunt just tried to kill your uncle?? And also stole your dragon egg magical nuke.

Even if everything Julith said was true, — her cold, cold reaction to a fireball hitting her son, the way she looks at Bakara like at dirt, and the way she says "quit fooling around", point so, so heavily towards her revelation of this information being a tactical way to manipulate Bakara.
