The drunken delight kiss: Jaeyoung and Sangwoo in Semantic Error

Thank you for delivering, drunk Sangwoo. Semantic Error is one of my all time favourite shows - cinematography, script, pacing, everything ffs - and they even got kissing right.

The beautifully heated beach kiss involving several fingers: Tongrak and Mahasamut in Love Sea

That was fucking hot. All the kissing scenes in Love sea are fucking hot. You show them how it's done, Fort and Peat (and Mame and the directors of Mame's shows, because stiff sad kissing is one hundred percent the fault of producers and directors, it's a directorial choice).

(This spot in the poll could have been the reunion kiss in Pornographer: Playback, by the way, but do you have any idea how difficult it is to search for a gif with those words? Anyway, same level of screaming)

The threesome that sadly didn't happen: Boeing, Sand and Ray in Only Friends

The poly kissing scene in Deep Night is lovely, but it made me coo, not scream. This made me scream (the word "yes!", to be specific, quickly followed by "no!" when they didn't go through with it). It was glorious while it lasted. Good god what a magnificent bastard Boeing is, Ray is mad as hell and Sand would just like to know what's going on (and possibly fuck kiss Boeing some more).

The only underwater kiss I approve of: Isak Valtersen and Even Bech Nesheim in SKAM

I don't like underwater kisses. I've kissed underwater myself and it was awful, and that was actually in nice proper seawater and not half water, half chlorine like most pools are. However, Isak and Even's kiss is so beautifully filmed that I can't help but love it, and the entire scene with them breaking into the indoor pool and bickering until they push/pull each other into the water, eventually getting caught by a small child, is genius.

The somewhat dubious consent: Gao Shi De and Zhou Shu Yi in We Best Love - Fighting Mr. 2nd

Fuck me UP. Shi De tossing Shu Yi's bag aside and Shu Yi onto the divan. Shi De's hands holding Shu Yi so carefully up and especially roaming Shu Yi's face. This is hands down the best on-screen kiss in the history of on-screen kisses to me, and number 2 on the list doesn't even come close. Sam Lin does an amazing job here - Yu too, by all means, but it's Sam Lin's masterpiece of acting.

Also please note that Sam is lying fully down on Yu. I often get annoyed with scenes where there's half a metre between the actors' torsos when one is supposed to be sort of lying on the other. Get close.

Bonus: the scene ends with a cut to Gao Shi De's underwater scream and that's something that beats all silly chlorinated underwater kisses (except one) to me.

Okay, this is not a scene per se, but here goes: Isak and Eva's friendship in If I should fall behind. I love how you write them together, how well they know each other. ❤️

From season 1 of SKAM, Eva's and Isak's friendship has always fascinated me. It's obvious that she knows more about his backstory than any of their friends (except for Jonas, of course)—and I'd like to think, that after he's apologized for the shitty things he did to her at the end of s3, they'd find their way back to one another.

For If I Should Fall Behind, I imagined them as older, in their late twenties, and back to being best friends. Found family, even. Both of them with a complicated relationship to sometimes absent parents, both compassionate and intelligent persons who can read the other with one look only. And both of them knowing what it costs to lose the other, knowing that they won't lose them another time. Knowing that the other will always have their back.

...and now I kind of want to write them together again. I just löv them both so much.

A festival a couple of hours drive from Oslo, just the two of them. There’s always people around them, in kollektivet, at Even’s place and Even has longed for this - to have Isak to himself. To spoil him a little. Isak got the tickets for his birthday, accompanied by a hand-drawn card. No need for parallel universes; it was just one, big square with the two of them, in front of a stage.

Isak turns around all the way and he’s such a sight like this. On his knees, face tilted down, eyes half-lidded and seductive. He’s still wearing that snapback he wore the first time Even saw him, and Even’s resigned by now to how that still makes him hot all over.

“Me,” Isak breathes.

I’m not hugely into comedy tbh. I watched Nanette recently and loved it, so Hannah Gadsby is the first one that comes to mind. I enjoy Jonas Gardell’s books and I think I’d enjoy his stand-up, too. Aaand… would you consider Victoria Pile a comedian? Or a comedy writer? She created Green Wing and Smack the Pony, both shows I used to like once upon a time. Some of the actors in those shows are pretty stellar. Oh, Matt Lucas and David Walliams. (Says the person who’s not into comedy).

He doesn’t hook up with friends, or the friends of friends. He sticks to Grindr and people he doesn't know—he’s not looking for anything more than something quick, temporary, for one night. That sweet release that comes with sex, with two bodies moving together.

When he meets Even, he breaks that rule. It's so easy with him, and besides, neither of them wants anything more. They don’t even specify why; they don’t have to. They have no obligations to do that, and that’s good. That suits Isak perfectly right now.

(Thanks to @modestytreehouse for checking that I haven’t insulted anyone too much [apart from Sean Connery, sorry not sorry] - and to point out that I need to put a bit of a spoiler warning for some of Ghostcat’s fics. Consider yourself warned...)

“Yeah, and then there’s one where you’re a robot.”

Isak pushed himself up on his elbow and gave Even an offended look.

“Excuse me, where I’m a what?”

“A robot. Or a pleasurebot, if you want to get technical about it.” Even hesitated before continuing, “Well, if you want to get really technical about it you’re not really a robot. Or, well, you kind of are? That is, you you have built a robot you. And I fall in love with… well, both of you, I guess?”

“What’s a pleasu… no, don’t tell me, I really don’t want to know,” Isak decided with a quick headshake. He flopped back onto Even’s chest - causing Even to let out a pained huff - and wriggled into a more comfortable position, nuzzling his nose into the opening of Even’s bathrobe before tilting his head reflectively as an idea hit him. “Although do you think I could borrow one of those robot things to do the Graham Norton interview next week? Sana booked us on the early morning flight again, because she’s a horrible, horrible person who enjoys my pain way too much.”

Even scrunched up his nose and moved the obstinate curl that was tickling his chin out of the way before dropping a kiss to the top of Isak’s head. 

“Sana is the nicest person we know,” he tried to argue before meeting Isak’s scandalised look and wisely abandoning the subject. “Anyway, probably not. But you could always leave the bot here so I won’t get lonely while you’re gone?” This suggestion was met with an indignant huff and a retaliatory poke to his stomach, but Even decided it had still been worth it. “Anyway, in another of her stories you’re in a school play.”

Isak stared at Even with the expression of a person who knows he’s about to ask a question he really doesn’t want to know the answer to.

“Ooookay…?” he prodded cautiously.

“Yeah. Romeo and Juliet. Magnus made you audition with him.”

Isak groaned, because… 

“Of course Mags will fuck up my life in every universe, even the fictional ones.”

“So you play Juliet-”

“With you as my Romeo, I take it?”

“Uh uh. Some guy called Bille is your Romeo. I am the director.”

“Of course you are.” Even didn’t even have to check to know that the words were accompanied by an elaborated eye roll. “Let me guess, it’s a modern take of a classic play, very hipster-y with Baz whatshisname vibes, all saturated colours and moody music.”

Even twisted his neck into an uncomfortable angle to be able to give Isak an affronted glare.

“There is more to me than Baz Luhrmann, I’ll have you know,” he pouted. Isak just gave him an unimpressed look in return and Even accepted the inevitable. “Fine, so there might have been some allusions to Baz, but you’re way off on the colours.

To Even’s disappointment, Isak didn’t seem to take the implied “so there” to heart if his sniggers were anything to go by.

“Hipster-y, Baz, Romeo and Juliet? Ooooh, she knows you. And with a more monochromatic colour scale, then? Does that mean she’s another of your black and white movie nerd mutuals?”

“Mutuals? Really? Look at you all down with the tumblr lingo,” Even teased and Isak raised his eyebrows in pretended offense. “And yes, she might reblog the occasional classic movie gif, what about it?”

Even received a quick kiss to his torso as a reward for his honesty.

“Of course she does. Oh my god, you’re such a nerd,” Isak mumbled with an affectionate pat to Even’s chest.

“Anyway, you liked Psycho, does that make you one of my ‘black and white movie nerd mutuals’ too?” Even asked, combing his fingers through Isak’s hair and enjoying the affronted grumble at the question.

“Of course I liked Psycho, the actor who plays that Bates guy is hot. Definitely wouldn’t kick him out of my bed despite all the mummy issues.”

“Anthony.”

“Huh?”

“The actor’s name, it’s Anthony. Perkins.”

“What the fuck? He played the creepy guy in Silence of the Lambs too?”

Even gave Isak a resigned look and another quick kiss to his temple.

“That was Anthony Hopkins, my hopeless little fountain of completely inaccurate pop culture trivia.”

“It was? I thought Anthony Hopkins was the guy who played Bond?”

Even just stared at him for a moment, too aghast to even contemplate a reply.

“Please for the love of god tell me you’re joking,” he finally managed.

“What? Anthony Hopkins, he’s the old, Scottish guy with fucked up views on women, right?”

Even closed his eyes and shook his head.

“That’s Sean Connery, you cultural black hole.”

“Is it really? I thought Sean Connery was-”

“No,” Even interrupted him, putting a hand over his mouth. “Whatever you’re going to say will make me lose all respect for humanity forever. Please don’t ever speak again. Ever.”

Isak giggled as he rolled over and freed himself from the impromptu muzzle, blinking innocently at Even’s unamused expression.

“Come on, of course I know who Sean Connery is. He’s the lesser Bond and the guy who got outacted by Nicolas Cage in The Rock. Great film, by the way. Michael Bay, baby. And it’s in colour.”

“Oh, god…” Even moaned, trying to push Isak off of him. “You come into my house, you disrespect the name of Connery-“

“Two words. Daniel. Craig,” Isak replied confidently as he octopussy-ed himself around Even in an effort to remain on top of him. Even couldn’t really blame Isak for his triumphant expression, because as arguments go? That one was a good one. Admitting defeat, he returned to the previous subject.

“Whatever. What I was saying before you started being annoying was that it’s Ghostcat’s birthday today and you should wish her a happy birthday.”

“Right. Your movie nerd friend.”

“Hey. She also reblog cats. You like cats.”

Isak made a sound that could possibly be described as agreement. Possibly...

“I want to know more about those pleasurebots, though,” he demanded instead. “Show me.”

Had Isak looked up from where he was using his index finger to draw patterns on the part of Even’s chest left bare by the bathrobe, he might have changed his mind - because Even’s grin? Practically diabolical.

“As you wish,” he agreed as he reached for his ipad, tapped on the Safari icon and opened his bookmarks. “As you wish…”

SKAM season 3 talkback series: episode 1, “Lykke til Isak”

The SKAM season 3 talkback series was done in conjunction with a first-time 2019 watch for a small group of newbies. I spoke with a cross-section of fans about each episode so our new-to-SKAM folks could get a varied taste of what the fandom was about. Some of these interviews have visits from other fans and folks from the watch.

Ghostcat: This is a talk show of sorts...a hood talk show.

treehouse: Haha, great!

Ghostcat: Imagine you're in my living room and that a marching band is playing outside. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IS HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN MY NYC NEIGHBORHOOD.

treehouse: Also, I'm wearing a grey hoodie. To honour the main of s3 of course.

treehouse: Lovely!

Ghostcat: So, let me get the ball rolling to ask you how did you start watching SKAM (which is always all-caps for me, because that's how I picture it in my head, in big bright yellow letters)

treehouse: So, I read about it on some news-site and it seemed interesting. Also, I had never watched anything Norwegian. I'm Swedish - if I take my car I can be in Norway in about three hours, but sometimes it's like our countries are on different continents. Like when it comes to TV productions.

Ghostcat: I must confess, I know very little about Scandinavian television.

treehouse: So, I was curious. A Norwegian show that news-sites wrote about -

Ghostcat: There was coverage about the show?

treehouse: I had it in an open tab for several months though, before I watched it. Yes, there was!

Ghostcat: Did the coverage focus on the format mostly? Or the content? Like, here we watch the show in episode format. I forget to remind our watchers that the show worked as live clips.

treehouse: (I should say though, that Norwegians seem to know a lot about Swedish stuff, but Swedes don't know (DIDN'T) anything about Norwegian stuff..)

Ghostcat: ...well, "live" clips.

treehouse: Uh, I don't remember reading anything about the format. But, like, this was several years ago, so...I suppose they wrote about that too, haha.

Ghostcat: So what was the first episode you saw?

treehouse: I am very orderly, so naturally I started from the beginning.

Ghostcat: So, Eva! Wonderful.

treehouse: Then I binged s1, s2 and most of s3 in one weekend.

Ghostcat: Wow!

treehouse: Yes!

etal: Know that feeling.

Ghostcat: It's really easy to do. You get sucked right in.

treehouse: When I started watching though, I didn't know/care about the blog. I just watched it as a regular tv show. A good tv-show. Right?

Ghostcat: Right. And your experience with fandom at that time was limited, right? Any fandom?

treehouse: I've never been in a fandom before, this is my very first haha

Ghostcat: One of the things I notice rewatching is how much character information is packed into the episodes in unforced ways, it makes going back a lot of fun. It rewards, in that way

treehouse: It really does!

Ghostcat: So while Eva is our lead in season one, we were already getting fed information for our future mains

etal: One thing I noticed on this rewatch that I'd missed before was Mahdi says he doesn’t know Isak.

Ghostcat: Yes, Madhi is new to the squad. He knows Isak but doesn't know him. The implication is that he's friends with Jonas? He knows Isak enough to call him ugly ha ha ha. Which I love.

etal: Yes and Jonas trying to spread the social glue and arguing back that he does - I think you're right when you say it's uncomfortable @treehouse

treehouse: Hmm.

Ghostcat: ...and Magnus, who without having too much exposition, we find out didn't put any money towards the weed but is smoking it. This says so much about who he is. What were your feelings on the Boy Squad, treehouse?

treehouse: That they are typical boys, haha. The talking about girls, the teasing...

Ghostcat: One of our watchers felt they were more accurate than the Penetrators as far as teenage boys go and that is legit.

treehouse: But then we get to know them even better in the clip "gå ner på chicks"

Ghostcat: Omg, yessss. To all of you who don't know the clip names, this is when they're in the cafeteria talking about the lady with a cat tongue...

treehouse: Like Magnus being a little lost, the person that makes them laugh at his own expense, even if he doesn't exactly mean to

Ghostcat: ...and the one Jonas claims has no clit

irazor: My thought were that they were such TYPICAL teenage boys.

treehouse: Yes, they are, haha!

Ghostcat: Ordinary.

treehouse: I just rewatched the ep before the talk back, and speaking of Isak not talking or writing - he doesn't talk in that clip.

Ghostcat: He's just stuffing his face.

treehouse: He's watching the others.

Ghostcat: ...and others.

treehouse: Who seem to think that the revue is kind of lame. ...and others.

Ghostcat: Ha ha ha. You can give us your first impression, that is safe territory.

treehouse: First impression of cafeteria boy/boy who uses all the paper towels?

Ghostcat: Yes, that boy.

treehouse: The boy that Isak doesn't even dare to look at for more than a millisecond because he's a boy?

Ghostcat: Can't even look at him.

treehouse: He can't!

Ghostcat: Only does when the boy jokes about having to suck dicks in the dark.

treehouse: But it's clear that Even recognizes him when he enters the kosegruppa-meeting.

Ghostcat: And that's only because Isak's startled into it.

treehouse: Haha, true!

Ghostcat: It's some great weed-smoking acting from Tarjei Sandvik Moe, all that coughing and his voice.

treehouse: Haha, it is! And the smooth move from Even, when he introduces himself to Emma.

Ghostcat: Yes, and a good way to get the audience on his side...

treehouse: When Isak clearly doesn't know who he agreed to pair up with.

Ghostcat: ...because who doesn't love a person who gets you out of a jam without prompting?

treehouse: Exactly!

Ghostcat: That's basically all I want from my friends

treehouse: Same.

Ghostcat: Please when you see that panicked look in my eyes...IMPROVISE.

treehouse: Also, I love how the ambience just dies when Emma comes. And then she sits down. Sigh.

Ghostcat: Isak isn't trying very hard with her with no one to perform for. Though it's interesting that he doesn't perform for Even.

treehouse: No, he certainly isn't. Yes! That is interesting!

Ghostcat: Did you have an idea of where you thought the season might be headed based on this first episode? We get a lot thrown at us... The hiding. Isak's mom's texts. We didn't even get into Eskild. Or Sana, unwilling science partner. Kosegruppa... yay? and the boy.

treehouse: Well, yes and no. I was probably expecting a lot of homophobia. Because, you know, TV, and how homosexual characters are treated.

Ghostcat: Oh yeah. There's always that fear.

treehouse: But the clip with Eskild and Linn, when they cuddle with Isak (almost against his will) in his bed - I love that!

Ghostcat: "I will pay" ha ha ha.

treehouse: Haha, yes.

Ghostcat: Eskild does treat Isak like the fluffy stray kitten he found on a rooftop.

treehouse: ...and how they do more than just live together - they share things too, and they miss their old flatmate. Haha he does, even though Isak apparently smells like fart.

Ghostcat: Ha ha ha, boy farts. He's poorly behaved, unused to people, not housebroken.

treehouse: Hahahha.

Ghostcat: Another project for Eskild.

treehouse: When Eskild is done with him, he'll smell of lavender!

Ghostcat: Ha ha ha, I'm picturing a deep Isak scowl. Did you have any predictions at this point before you let the next episode play? Or where you just like NEXT NEXT NEXT?

treehouse: Haha, oh god, I was just playing the next episode. Didn't have time to think, had to watch MORE.

Ghostcat: Of course. So now that we kept you much longer than I planned to―do you have any thoughts about this episode that we didn't get a chance to talk about before we sign off? (I could grill you about the whole season but we are on our best behavior here)

treehouse: No, not that I can think of. I'm just so excited for you to watch the next episode. And the next and the next etc. Haha, we are!!

etal: I still think Isak throws a last little look at Even in the last few moments of that scene. I haven't watched it 1000000 times, you understand. I just noticed it in passing.

pillowlava: I concur.

itsallnoncents: I think you’re right, etal. It’s super quick.

etal: So quick.

itsallnoncents: And he could be looking at Mahdi but it seems too self-aware of a glance

Ghostcat: I'll have another look

etal: Watch him all the way through without looking at anything else and he doesn't look in Even's direction again at all, not once. Exerts great self-control...and then the tiniest flicker. Very Isak.

itsallnoncents: He wants to know if Even is still looking or listening.

Ghostcat: The fact that Even's still in the frame behind Vilde is so great. I love this show's attention to detail. A fan's dream. Truly.

itsallnoncents: Our cup runneth over.

I did an awesome thing. I joined @skambigbang 2021 as an artist. Oh boy, how fun that was! 

I got pared up with the most fantastic @hakkepippern and after some late night talks, I ended up with this poster as my contributing art to her awesome story. 

Go read STRIKK TO SAMMEN (KNIT TWO TOGETHER) on AO3 now. It’s a funny, hot and just plain awesome story.

Chapter Eight: Friday, part II

There are so many things Even loves about Isak, but his morning voice must be in the top ten. Top five probably. When it sounds like it's on the point of breaking, thin and yet deep. Reminding him that he’s the one who gets to see Isak like this, the only one who Isak lets this close.

Yes. Yes, I really do. Both reading and writing, I’ve discovered. I really like university AUs, they’re just so easy to write (and read) for me. :) :)
