i feel like the clan members all encourage yakumo to eat more in their own ways, methods ranging from just the right amount of subtle to slightly overbearing.
eiden, for example, notices that yakumo enjoys watching other people at his cooking. he has a habit of serving everyone else first, watching their differing reactions with a pleased smile, and then finally eating himself, if there’s anything left by that point. because of this, eiden tries to save yakumo a portion, encouraging him to eat alongside them instead of acting as a bystander to their meals.
edmond feels like he has to do something to repay yakumo’s kindness. the serpent often goes out of his way to make a separate batch of whatever baked good he’s making, specifically altered to edmond’s tastes. and while edmond feels immensely grateful, he’s also too shy to simple express this gratitude out loud. occasionally, when he’s treating himself at one of the bakeries at the market, the knight will ‘accidentally’ buy two servings. and he can’t possibly eat two servings by himself, so he has no choice but to give one to yakumo! it’s really as simple as that, no need to look any further into it!
quincy and olivine are admittedly more subtle in the way they encourage yakumo to eat. which.. isn’t saying much. quincy has made a habit of cuddling against yakumo’s back while he cooks, his head resting on the serpent’s shoulder and arms wrapped around his slim waist. sometimes, because he yet again happened to notice just how small yakumo’s waist is in comparison to his own hands, quincy will remind yakumo to save some food for himself.
olivine, on the other hand, will often be sitting in the library with yakumo, reading to him while enjoying tea and snacks the serpent takes the time to make each time they meet up like this. without taking his eyes off the page, olivine will ask yakumo if he’s had any of the snacks he worked so hard to make. he knows that he hasn’t, and yakumo flustered silence only proves him right. at that point, he’ll take yakumo’s hand into his own and remind him it’s more than alright to enjoy the effort of his hard work.
garu and especially karu feel downright offended when they learn that yakumo doesn’t often eat the food that he makes, on his behalf, of course. it just doesn’t make any sense to them! how does yakumo make such good food if he never tries any of it? and how could he just not try any of it when it’s so good? he doesn’t know what he’s missing out on! garu uses his sweet puppy eyes to get yakumo to share his food while karu.. well, if the food’s so good, everyone should try it! especially the person who made it! and he’s not taking no for an answer!!
just.. the boys taking care of their housewife and reminding him that he’s loved through their appreciation of his cooking, but also their care for his wellbeing ♡

hoppin’ heart!
valerian (oc) x kaveh | 1.5k words | modern au, established, fluff, warnings: jealousy (of… a rabbit)
note: valerian isn’t a self insert, but a developed oc! حياتي (hayati) means ‘my life’ and Солнышко (solnyshko) means ‘little sun’. i thought they were really cute terms of endearment lol.
a/n: another one! :D and yes, kevin is a kevin kaslana expy joke lol. vani is a friend’s oc and rayyan is another one of mine. :)
Kaveh knocks twice, pause, three times, pause, then drums his knuckles along the door. “It’s me!”
He doesn’t wait for Valerian to answer, too excited to show him his new passion project—he’s learned how to make all sorts of origami flowers over the weekend as a (desperate) distraction from his looming assignment, and he’s already made a full bouquet by the time Monday’s rolled over. Thankfully, neither he nor his boyfriend have classes today, so he’s come over to his apartment to gift him his latest creation.
Unfortunately, he doesn’t hear the “wait—!” Valerian yells out, and instead hears the rapid pattering of tiny footsteps that come after. A ball of fluff and ears comes hurtling towards him at the door, sniffing around his feet as if to say, ‘What are you doing in my house?’
Kaveh blinks and closes the door behind him, frowning at the rabbit he’s never seen before in his life. “...Who is this?”
“Oh, thank the Archons, you closed the door.” Valerian pants out, leaning against the hallway to catch his breath.
Kaveh bobs down and puts his hand out in front of the rabbit, letting it sniff him first. He pets it when it goes back to sniffing his shoes. “This guy’s new.”
“I volunteered to foster it from Tighnari.” Valerian explains, moving to sit down in front of him. He pats his lap, and the rabbit instantly hops over to it, sniffing his hand. “I just got it on Friday, but it’s already getting used to the house. It’s cute, isn’t it?”
Kaveh pouts and squints, watching as Valerian pets the rabbit’s ears and coos when it melts under his touch. As if that wasn’t enough, Valerian gently picks it up and boops their noses together.
‘Excuse me?’ Kaveh thinks indignantly. ‘He kissed the rabbit before he kissed me?!’
And then, and then—
“You’re so cute, little Kevin. Bububu.” Valerian coos, gently nuzzling the rabbit—Kevin?!—against his nose some more.
“Kevin?” Kaveh squints even more.
“Uhuh! Because it looks like you! Look, doesn’t it?” Valerian giggles and turns the rabbit around so it faces Kaveh. Its fur is a dirty blonde, not unlike Kaveh’s hair at all, and what’s more is that its long lop ears are a darker brown at the tips. The same goes for the ends of its paws. Again, not unlike Kaveh. It’s missing the striking ruby red eyes that Kaveh has, thankfully, but the colour of its fur is apparently enough to be—to be a replacement. How dare Kevin?
“Of course, I couldn’t just name it after you. So Vani suggested I name it Kevin. They said it’s a nice Mondstadtian name, and I think it’s a really handsome name for it!” Valerian continues to gush over Kevin, putting it down on his lap and rubbing its forehead with his fingers.
“Uhuh.” Kaveh deadpans, staring at Kevin. It turns to him and twitches its nose, as if to stick its tongue out at him. The audacity!
“Anyway, what did you come over for?” Valerian looks up, tilting his head.
Hah! Now’s his chance! Kaveh will show this Kevin who the prime bunny of this house really is, and who Valerian really loves most.
He clears his throat and moves to kneel on one knee, smirking at Valerian’s flabbergasted expression, and pulls out the paper bouquet behind him in a flourish. “For you, my love.”
Valerian gasps, always easily impressed. Kaveh melts at the sparkles in his eyes. Why is his boyfriend too adorable for his own good?
“Woah!” Valerian exclaims, picking Kevin up and putting it down on the floor. “Here, go to your cage, Kevin.”
Kevin looks up at Kaveh and twitches its nose once, and Kevin has to bite back a smug grin as it hops around the corner. Victory.
“Did you make this?” Valerian takes the bouquet, admiring the craftsmanship. He rubs a paper rose petal between his fingers before leaning in and taking a sniff. “Oh! It smells like that perfume I really like on you.”
“Mm, I made it over the weekend for you.” Kaveh hums proudly, but his smile is nothing but warm and fond for the man in front of him. Despite his theatrics, he can’t help but feel a little shy at how joyful and heartfelt Valerian’s reaction is. “Do you like it?”
“I love it.” Valerian gushes, leaning in to give Kaveh a kiss. One much longer than the one he gave Kevin. Another point for best boyfriend Kaveh! Valerian giggles against Kaveh’s lips when he leans closer to prolong the kiss, practically climbing on his lap. Valerian manages to pull away though, gently nudging their noses together. “As expected of my romantic boyfriend—wait.”
He fully leans back to squint at Kaveh. “Did you do this instead of your assignment?”
“I did it during my breaks!” Kaveh defends himself, huffing. “My legs were about to fall off from standing at my desk all day, I had to do something else with my time.”
“And you didn’t just sit on the couch and watch TV?”
“With my headache of a roommate? Absolutely not.” Kaveh snorts. Alhaitham’s final assignments are fast approaching their deadlines too, and yet somehow he seems infinitely less stressed. What’s up with that? His nonchalance only grinds Kaveh’s gears more, so he’s decided to have as little interaction with him as possible until break. “I promised myself to speak only three sentences to him a day until finals are over: Good morning, What’s for dinner, and Goodnight.”
Valerian shakes his head fondly. “Yeah, yeah. Don’t your hands hurt though, from using them nonstop?”
“Your reaction made it all worth it, hayati.” Kaveh hums, pressing a kiss to Valerian’s nose, who laughs and gently slaps his chest.
“Ugh, you’re so cheesy.” He groans, moving to stand up. “You can stay a while. I made lunch for Rayyan and I, but he’s on a study date so there’s food for y—ah, Kevin! No!”
Kaveh’s eye twitches.
He’s squinting again as Valerian puts the bouquet down on the coffee table, bobbing down to gently pick up the small, evil ball of fluff from under the couch. “You could get stuck there, baby.” Baby?! “I really need to cover that up so you don’t go running under it…”
Valerian’s cooing at Kevin the entire time he takes it to its cage, a rather large enclosure near the window. Kaveh pouts like a kid when Valerian presses kisses on the top of its head before putting it in its home. Even more when he takes his time watching it hop around for several seconds before finally turning back to his beloved boyfriend.
“Oh, Kaveh! I have an idea!” Valerian exclaims, seemingly oblivious to Kaveh’s dramatics as he runs up to him and holds his hands. It’s almost impossible to keep being grumpy when he looks at him like that. Almost. “Can you build an enclosure for Kevin after finals? I mean, not after after finals since I want you to rest your head, but maybe in a few months ti—…Kaveh?”
Kaveh still hasn’t stopped pouting, but now he looks more like a kicked puppy than an angry one, eyebrows creased and eyes big and shiny as he looks at his boyfriend. Valerian looks at him incredulously for a few seconds, as if to say ‘what now?‘ to his dramatics, before the gears finally turn in his head.
He laughs. Loud, tilting his head back and covering his mouth. Even snorts.
Kaveh gapes. “H-hey!”
“I can’t believe—” Valerian wheezes, giggling so much that Kaveh almost breaks and starts laughing himself. No, Kaveh, let him know how grumpy you are. “Are you jealous of Kevin?”
“W-well—” Kaveh stammers, crossing his arms. “It looks like me and everything! And it’s so cute and fluffy! And you even kissed it before you kissed me!”
Valerian bites his lip to control his laughter, clearly trying to calm down. He clears his throat and walks back up to Kaveh, taking his hands in his again. “Kaveh,” he starts, letting out a breathy giggle despite himself, “Can a rabbit take me out on dates?”
Kevin frowns and furrows his eyebrows. What kind of question… “No…?”
“Can a rabbit write poetry on how handsome and kind I am?”
“No?”
“Can a bunny make me an origami flower bouquet that smells like the perfume he wears?”
“No…”
Valerian giggles when Kaveh's pout grows smaller, all fond and soft as he moves his hands up to cup his cheeks. He leans in to nuzzle their noses together. “So there’s nothing for you to worry about, solnyshko. Only you can be my boyfriend.”
Okay, Kaveh can’t not smile at that. His grin is wide and happy as he pulls Valerian close by the waist, giving him a quick kiss. “So I’m cuter than Kevin?”
“Just a little bit cuter.” Valerian teases, squishing his cheeks. “You’d be tons cuter if you tried to get along with it. It’s sweet and gentle, I promise!”
Kaveh hums in thought, letting his cheeks get squished. “If I knew any better, I’d say you have a plan to get me to babysit it.”
“And I know you’d say yes, because you love me and you’d do anything to spend a few hours away from Alhaitham.”
Kaveh laughs, pressing his forehead against Valerian’s and easily giving in. “Ugh, you’re double right. You win.”
Valerian giggles, smiling proudly. Victory. He tugs Kaveh closer for a kiss, mumbling against his lips. “I love you too.”
