Day five

By the time Desmond was five years old, he was already being trained in the assassin ways. And at five, he was being forced to fully participate in training, with kids twice to three times his size and age. Most of the time the poor boy was getting sat on. It was embarrassing for him and for William.

Kayana hated seeing her sweet boy so abused and tried her hardest to be there for him and supportive but William as soon as he got wind would send her off on missions for months on end often making Desmond feel isolated.

William, aside from the disappointment that was Desmond, had other things to be quite proud of. He had a little cult that was growing within the ranks of this cell. Loyal to him and the one who waits.

Haytham Kenway watched at a distance, biding his time before he could pull his son from this hell he was born to. Many of his fellow Templars did say his hands were tied for the moment since he didn't have proof of the abuse. He had to get it somehow.

The times William was out, and Kayana was around, Haytham would be there. Polite and encouraging to Desmond, working with him one on one to help him improve. Which William's elite noticed but knew their hands were tied since Desmond was getting better.

So finally made that scramble recipe you linked a few weeks back (veggie version because I forgot to buy sausages) and it turned out great! Full compliments from all the friends I was cooking for, so thanks for the recipe.

That's amazing, it makes me so happy! Meat is indeed optional in that recipe, there's a lot of stuff in there already. Btw, in Turkish it's called menemen, from Greek Menemeni (Μενεμένη), which is a district of Izmir, whereas in Greek it's called kayanas (καγιανάς), from Turkish kaygana, which means omelette.

And what a coincidence, for my part I made shakshouka for the first time! Observations:

I put too much tomato, I think, but that's easily fixable next time (I have no useful data to share on the subject of "how much", I was just eyeballing it in the pan, and apparently eyeballing it badly)

I tried cumin + smoked paprika, and liked it a lot!

I think this dish should be HOT. I threw in a couple of dried chili peppers and some bukovo (a Balkan spice, basically red pepper flakes and seeds). I'm not sure what flavour of hot is best here, I just know I'll put more next time

I also had some strained yoghurt and grilled pitta, which were also spiced with cumin + smoked paprika; it's a very fitting side-dish (esp. if you make it hot enough, and need the dairy)

I, for one, think that this dish screams for ouzo. or whatever similar booze you got laying around. I mean shit, I'd try tequila with it.

I'm amazed that people eat that for breakfast, it's a whole ass meal; then again, what do I know about breakfast, i'm in the Balkans, no one cooks bright and early in the morning, the traditional breakfast is coffee and cigarettes

it's so good to eat shakshouka (and the similar kayana) straight from the pan, it's just primal, I love it. fuck plates, just dig in.

(hopefully this is better. This is sorta what I had to begin with but it felt too grabbing your character.)

The jump from 1781 New York to 2003 Indiana, though in his mind was still the untamed wilderness beyond the Pennsylvania Colony, was jarring to say the least. He stood out too much, more than before and he had to think fast. His first proper response would be to get appropriate clothing for the current era, but then he paused and groaned, it was a strong possibility that what money he had was useless now. Well shit, pardon the sailor speak. Sailor speak? Why did his father suddenly enter his mind reminding him…oh right, he had been trained as an assassin before Brich got his lieing hands on him. Moving quickly and quietly he found proper clothes and changed leaving his old familiar ones behind, except for his hat. He couldn't part with that. Though he felt funny without it on. He had to admit the slacks, dress shirt and sports coat looked good on him.

With that out of the way made his way through the small town he was in. Meanwhile just on the other side of the same town, a six foot tall woman of Syrian descent entered the town to stop for rest. She was tracking her run away son who had fled home a few days earlier. Not that she blamed him and not that her ex husband sent her, fuck him. No she was just a worried mother wanting to make sure her child was safe. She blended in the crowds and weaved with ease. Her own eagle vision giving her guidance. A bit of gold caught her eye, but her gift was stronger than the average user. Her sight allowed her to take a look at people and know their whole backstory. Then it happened, she looked in the direction of the golden individual and felt the mark on her arm warm. She took off towards the gold that had caught her sight.

He looked down as the mark on his arm warmed as well. A name that had been with him since he was eight years old. A name in a beautiful signature, careful and sure. He didn't know who Kayana Al-Naar was but he had a suspicion he'd soon find out.

"Hmm." Haytham ponders before glancing up, looking for the source of it, he activates his own eagle vision, glancing around in hopes to spot them, he was curious. The name originated with him somehow like Ziios had to him, maybe it was Ziios tribe name, godz-zio something- that clicked with him that he might know who this mystery person was..
