Marasmius siccus, orange pinwheels, are just about as cute as mushrooms get. Often described as tiny beach umbrellas, these tiny mushrooms often show up in late summer. Although they’re likely not poisonous, they’re too tiny to be worth eating.

Day 15: “Weak.” Marasmius siccus. The pinwheel Marasmius species always look so delicate to me, with their incredibly thin stems. #inktober #inktober2018 #mushroom #mushroomart #magicavoxel https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo-wCczHiHU/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=11u06lwp2kdr9

Orange Pinwheel Marasmius siccus Dainty by design with a sunny visage; these always catch my eye.  They conjure thoughts of jellyfish frozen in time, or tethered lanterns made of orange silk. Their appearance is short-lived, even for a fungus, and they have an unknown edibility.

Orange Pinwheel - Marasmius siccus
Arising from hardwood leaves and sticks, these tiny orange beach umbrellas are quite beautiful when fresh. The orange, pleated cap, the wiry stem, and the very distant gills make this Marasmius easy to recognize.
Marasmius siccus (Marasmiaceae) is found in Europe and east of the Great Plains in North America, and also has been recorded in South Korea and Japan.
