Will you ever do any more comics about your WoL? I loved reading them, and while I've given up my dream of being a comic artist, I still love to read them
Hi there!! Honestly, in the immediate future, not very likely as I've been pushing extremely hard to focus on my visual identity as an illustrator to get into Illustration fairs lately.
But that doesn't mean I don't want to! It's mostly because I've fallen off ffxiv (as one does with fandoms occasionally!) I suspect Dawntrail would reignite some ideas within me and draw more.
Also, a lot of my WoL Telios comics were drawn when I was working a stable 9 to 5 job, so drawing them were my hobbies outside of work. Since going full-time freelance, I've had less time to think about doing them; ; I do want to draw more! But this year I am pushing very hard on a few fronts in my work, so that has to be put on the back burner.
Also OP, art is a long, lonely, and tiring journey. I know more than anyone how exhaustive and draining it is. "Do what you love and you never work a day in your life" is simply untrue. It ends up warping what you love into work and makes it hard to draw that line between what is work and what is enjoyment.
I hope you find that spark to create comics again, not for work or for anyone, but for yourself primarily first and foremost. Find like-minded folks to draw with, read comics that make you *feel* alive again. For me that has been "Frieren" and "Dungeon Meshi".
Art will and always will be subjective, it's shaped by each unique person and their background and upbringing. So I cannot say what it is to you or what you can or should do. That would be hubris and ego on my part. This is why I believe teaching art is always so difficult especially in big class settings, because of varying views and ways of appreciation for it. I hope you find what you need to find that sparkl again anon.
All my love!

Hey, I love chinatop! It hasn't updated in a while though so I just wanted to ask if it's on a hiatus or been dropped?
Hello! Thank you for asking about Chinatop. It's still in my thoughts and in my heart but here's a thread detailing what happened and why it's been on hiatus and paused :
Tumblr media
What wasn't detailed in it is that, because I worked with Originals, I now owe tapas a startup fee of upwards of USD 1.2k so any and all ad revenue earned from any and ALL of my comics, chinatop or NOT, tips made, ad revenue, ANY earnings made at ALL goes to them to cover this before I am even allowed to earn again on tapas. I have not earnt a single cent from tapas and Chinatop, a highschool story I wrote as a starry eyed teen.
I'm not sure when and if it will ever get a continuation, and even if I did I would rewrite the story anew. The way I want and like it.
Thank you for asking about it. I love it dearly, but this is where it's been.

super random i know!! but!! do you have any tips for drawing cheer fabric/clothing? From like, as stiff/rough as tulle to as soft as chiffon or organza?
Hello! Sorry for how long it took to get back to you! I'm not sure how well I can explain it but I'll do my best from what I understand.
Tumblr media
My basic understanding of how thick and loose cloth behaves is that thicker cloths have more space between each fold and tend to bunch up in more sharp angles. Whereas looser or thinner cloths will bunch closer together and in more rounder shapes and folds.
Tumblr media
So i imagine since tulle is thin enough it bunches together more but maintains its hard angles in folds.
Tumblr media
chiffon being not as chunky as tulle and the thinnest of the material, so it flows more smoothly in round shapes
Tumblr media
With organza being somewhere in the middle! It's soft enough that it follows the round swooping lines but doesn't bunch up as much so the folds are a little further apart and bigger!
I hope this helps somewhat!

Hi! I've been kind of lurking for a while, your art is gorgeous and your comics with Telios are what made me realize just how incredible and emotional a few comic panels can be. It's kind of inspired me to try to make my own, but the one problem I run into to even start is size. How do you decide what size to make your artboards? Is it by pixels or by cm...? Every program seems to be different, and just looking up advice on the internet is giving me mixed signals... T_T
Hello! Thank you so much!!
And honestly, this is a general question with many answers depending on what you want to do in the long term. There's really no right or wrong way (or size) to start your comics!
I'm assuming when you say 'artboards' you mean the finished page? So I'll be answering to the best of my abilities with that in mind.
If you're just starting out, there's nothing wrong with just drawing in small squares to explore the genre. My favourite artist : insertdisc5 does some incredible work with just drawing squares and dialogues. These are great if you have a quick idea and just want to communicate short stories. (But honestly, if you want to do long form stories, these are also great to start out with and just get a feel of the medium)
If you mean page by page, I actually draw everything on B5 size or A5 size, so if I need something to be bigger or smaller, I'll just scale up or scale down.
There's also webtoon style comics that area veeeeery long vertically. For those I used to work in 2100px width and however long I needed them to be (They would go up to 50k px per episode) But again I'd have to scale them down to 900px wide to adhere to posting limits.
I think ultimately, there is really truly no real or proper size or way to start. It depends on how comfortable you are with big or small canvasses since you can always scale to fit your needs. I personally prefer to work on 1200 - 2000px wide canvasses, bc anything beyond that makes it difficult for my textures to show and I have to draw a lot more details. I have no idea if I managed to hit any points you were hoping to have answered, but feel free to pop another ask if you'd like :)

Do you draw (or know of) persona or SMT? I'd really like to see your work on it! (Asking for a friend ofc ;)
Hi!! YES I DO!! I'M A BIG SMT FAN!!!
I've played p3, 4, and 5 as well as smt 3,4 and 5 (I didn't manage to finish smt 5 tho, 😔been meaning to try again. But my favourite has been smt4. The minatour changed me.)
I've been wildly excited for the p3 remake and am legally married to aigis.
I also unfoetu lately know the names of most of the monsters/demons on sight.
I've done a lot of primarily p3 art in the past but maybe it's time to do more...
Edit: I'VE ALSO PLAYED DEVIL SURVIVOR 1 AND 2

hi! i love love love chinatop, but i see it hasn't been updated in a while. are you still working on it? (i'm sorry if this has been asked before!)
Hi friend! Unfortunately, I'm not sure when I will ever be able to continue or finish it...;; While working on CT, I was severely underpaid ($50 per episode) by tapas so I pulled out since they refused to raise how much they paid me.
Currently, I'm working on breaking into Graphic Novel publishing so that's my current focus in regards to comics ; ;
I'm not sure when I'll ever be able to get back to CT but I'd like to finish it one day!
Thank you for the ask and for reaching out! It's easy to forget that people read and buy my stories despite my horrendous treatment, so this was actually very lovely to receive. That folks read and enjoy my work. One day I'd like to finish it!

So I’ve been following you for a while. I’ve never played any final fantasy game, generally I take an “I don’t go here but it’s nice to be included” mindset and I don’t play many video games in general, but I just wanted to say that all your final fantasy art is absolutely gorgeous. You manage to make me invested in characters that I don’t know from source material and you give them this really beautiful artistic depth that makes me want to sit down and talk with these characters.
Hi!! Hello!! Thank you for following me for so long! ; ; And thank you so much, I'm glad that my love for these little fictional characters show in the art and self expression I do! Thank you for sticking around despite not knowing of these characters!!

Hello I'm sorry for appearing out of nowhere afbjdgjgf but I just really wanted to say... i love your ffxiv comics and Telios so so much— honestly your comics are part of what really inspired me to think more on my WOL's story and the world around them (though it's... a lot more plain lol). There's this energy to it, and the storytelling you employ with negative space and creative paneling is breathtaking! I don't fully understand it all just yet (Stormblood patches baby!!) but... I guess, thank you for sharing your and your WOL's journey! It's so, so good.
Hello!!! It's no problem at all and thank you so much for this lovely ask ; ; Telios has helped me through difficult times as well and reinstilled my confidence in my ability to tell stories. So it's always lovely to hear that folks love my work and stories of him!!
